Rebirth Of The Noble Mage Behind The Scenes -
Chapter 179: The Cave Beneath the Relief Cliff
Chapter 179: Chapter 179: The Cave Beneath the Relief Cliff
There are seven giant relief sculptures, among which the statue of the faceless woman Anvis had seen before is situated in the second position from the left.
The other statues closely resemble this one in appearance, but have slightly different gender characteristics.
From the left to the center, four statues appear to be female, while the three on the right seem to be male.
To tell the truth, although the ancient mountains on the island are the most dangerous place on the entire island, the danger is not particularly high during the day.
Aside from the Curse Field that only affects Professionals up to the Third Rank, the danger in the mountains primarily stems from the cursed magical beasts and plants that have undergone weird alterations.
Unlike the dense forest at the foot of the mountain, which is also engulfed by the Curse Field, the environment still manages to maintain a normal appearance.
The species that can survive in the island’s mountains have all been completely mutated, turning into bizarre forms.
Beside him, the Frostwind Knight Jom concentrated a thin Sword Qi, pinning a quietly creeping, black-colored strange weed to the ground.
With a shrill, miserable scream, the ’weed’ madly twisted and writhed, flashing a metallic luster across its body.
It burst out with a Magic Power aura of a Fourth Rank that had previously been concealed, and then turned into a solid ice sculpture.
Anvis glanced at the frozen weed without changing direction, just continued towards the cliff.
Mutated plants of Fourth Rank or higher are not very common but due to the curse, the materials on the black grass have almost no value.
As a sample, since it is only of Fourth Rank and its curse manifestations are incomplete, it is not worth collecting specially.
.........
The two arrived at the base of the cliff after a moment.
Only when they got closer did they truly appreciate the immensity of the relief carvings on the cliff.
The giant humanoid reliefs, nearly as tall as a mountain, stood at the base of the cliff making it hard to see their entirety at a glance.
The two of them were not even as tall as the diameter of the tentacles twisting around the feet of those giant statues, somewhat resembling sea lilies.
After a brief observation of this cliff, from this distance, Anvis could clearly see.
In the center of the cliff, below the giant statue of the faceless woman, there is a dark, elliptical hole deeply leading into the unknown layers of rock.
This is the original destination of his journey.
Moon Calling Secret Sect’s secret ritual site, Challenge Level 80+
"This will be troubling, Lord Jom."
Taking a deep breath, Anvis spoke softly.
Jom slightly nodded, raising both hands to his chest, fingertips together, palms facing each other, and softly recited a series of spells.
In a moment, a beautiful and delicate ring of ice-blue protective light appeared between Jom’s palms, and then with a slight flicker, it wrapped around Anvis’s body.
Eighth Rank Protection School Spell—[Zero-Degree Ring]
A blue protective light ring appears on the recipient’s body. When attacked by an enemy, the ice ring will burst out at a temperature nearly reaching absolute zero, freezing the attack and the enemy together.
Then, Jom proceeded to cast several high-level protection spells on Anvis,
[Space Mirror Image], [Mind Barrier], [Constant Wall]...
Although the profession name contains the word "knight," as a secret tradition, the Frostwind Knight is an orthodox profession that balances magic and martial arts.
Moreover, in Unival, casting magic does not require a specific profession; the only requirements are sufficient spiritual power and magic knowledge, as well as preparing the corresponding magic materials.
In the gloomy depths of the cave, two cloaked figures shattered the tranquility.
The leader, clad in a brown traveler’s cloak, carried a powerful Eighth Rank aura; in the gentle darkness of the cave, it was as conspicuous as the moon in the night.
Following him was a young spellcaster cloaked in black, with an exceptionally handsome visage.
He held a slender magic wand embedded with a dark blue crystal and had a mithril-glowing magic book hovering at his side; defensive spirit light of various colors danced around him, and a thick, dark green book was chained around his waist.
After moving away from the crowd, Anvis had already discarded his disguise.
Upon entering the cave, first came a long downward-sloping corridor. There were no signs of man-made excavation; it seemed to have formed naturally.
Given that the player panel rated this place with a Challenge Level of 80+, Anvis proceeded with extreme caution.
However, in reality, nothing happened along the way. Even the mutated magical beasts and plants commonly found in the mountains were completely absent here.
The state of the Curse Field here was also very peculiar, seemingly in a highly suppressed state with far less erosiveness than its active state.
The intensity of the field did increase somewhat but not significantly, showing no essential difference from the fields between the mountains.
At the end of the corridor was a bottomless abyss that one could not see the bottom of; a rickety wooden bridge stretched across, connecting both ends of the abyss and instilling a sense of insecurity.
On the other side of the abyss was a large hemispherical cavern.
Due to the distance, and the peculiar darkness in the cave, even with his Dark Vision, Anvis could only vaguely make out the scene on the other side of the abyss.
After crossing the bridge at the end of the corridor, Anvis surveyed the vast cave.
The arrangement inside the cave felt very familiar to him, closely resembling the mysterious cave that appeared in his prophecy.
The dark cavern was devoid of people; the walls were carved with ancient and strange decorative patterns, and a huge rock altar stood deep inside the cave.
Atop that altar, in the grooves, the thick, congealed dark red seemed as if it was about to flow again.
However, including the deity statue, there were no items left on the altar; it was so clean it seemed as though players had been there before.
After some thought, Anvis carefully climbed to the top of the altar with Jom.
The stone ceremonial platform at the top of the altar was the only object remaining. The deity statue that originally stood behind the stone platform had now vanished.
At the rear part of the altar’s top, there was an obvious trace on the ground, as if a huge heavy object had been forcibly moved away.
Cautiously examining that trace, Anvis extended his spiritual power, connecting to the Ancient Secret Scripture at his waist.
The thick, dark green book opened on its own, and that faintly cold power once again attached itself to Anvis’s perception.
With its assistance, Anvis detected that familiar, elusive alien power that his alter ego once brought back from Evan.
That power gathered within the trace on the ground, not intense but enduring.
