Chapter 168: Chapter 168: Vein Core

As he listened to the old explorer Baggsen’s recount, Anvis’s gaze gradually began to shift.

If an island truly harbored a gem cave of such scale, the nature of the situation would once again be transformed.

The Magic Material Science course once specifically mentioned that at the center of large-scale or greater magic ore veins, the essence of the entire vein often condenses, forming a higher-level vein core.

For instance, Super Magic Crystals produced at the center of a large Magic Crystal Mine, Green Luminous Crystals produced from the center of Green Trace Iron Ore, etc.

And the quality of the ore core must be at least one Rank higher than that of the basic vein itself.

If the minerals produced by the base vein are of Mid Rank, then the ore core would at the very least reach the level of High Rank materials.

As a kind of High Rank magic gemstone, if a raw Heart of Amis of a size covering an entire cave wall truly existed, then at its core, it might very well condense a Ninth Rank gemstone core!

Ninth Rank materials—

Those are treasures enough to attract the attention of the top forces on the Continent, and they are also enough for Anvis to reassess the value of the island’s gem mine.

The greatest difference between Ninth Rank materials and those below Ninth Rank lies in the higher-level forces contained within them, as well as the material structure capable of carrying Ninth Rank powers.

Due to the rarity of Ninth Rank materials, some Professionals who have only reached Ninth Rank not long ago are even unable to obtain Ninth Rank equipment and can only make do with Peak Eighth Rank gear.

On the other hand, unaware of Anvis’s thoughts, the old explorer continued his narration.

"Those Crystal Spirits are not invincible; in fact, as long as one is prepared in advance, targeting the Elemental Spirits that act on instinct is quite straightforward, even if they are Sixth Rank, one Rank higher than me."

"Elemental Spirits have no senses, and the only two ways they perceive the outside world are through the flow of magic power and air currents. Precisely for that reason, as long as there is a way to completely deal with these two aspects, they would ’see you but not see you’."

As he said this, Baggsen opened both hands, making a gesture of tight sealing.

"After escaping back to town via a Teleportation Scroll, I immediately began to prepare equipment targeted at Elemental Spirits, planning to venture back to that mysterious gem cave.

Unfortunately, when I went back to that fissure to explore, fully prepared, half a month later, everything had changed..."

At this point, the old explorer Baggsen couldn’t help but let out a light sigh, his face’s wrinkles gathering together like the dry rind of an orange.

"Within that half a month, the Earth Dragon that lay dormant deep beneath the ancient mountains had awoken once—

Amidst the Earth Dragon’s terrifying roiling and roaring, many connected caves and fissures underground collapsed, completely altering the terrain of the entire subterranean cave system."

"After returning there, I tried to dig in the direction from my memory, but in the end, I found nothing.

All the familiar crevices, forks, and those characteristic landmarks had changed in the earthquake."

"For a very long period of time, I tried everything to search there. Disregarding the curse of the island and the unknown dangers, I ventured deep underground for extended periods, just to explore that marvelous gem cave once more.

Not until my body could almost no longer resist the erosion of the curse did I regretfully return from underground, slowly waiting for Rai’s grace to cleanse the curses from my body..."

"In this continuous exploration, I expended a great deal of time and effort.

After experiencing another awakening of the Earth Dragon, I had to face the cruel reality that I had completely lost any trace of that gem cave."

"For a long time after that, that gem cave would appear in my dreams. I saw those gems refract brilliant light, even piercing through the thick layers of the earth, shining upon my eyelids.

But when I opened my eyes, all the brilliance and dazzle had vanished, and I still faced the reality of the rocky ceiling and the dim room."

In his final words, the old explorer with blue-gray eyes conveyed a heavy sigh.

"If you too wish to seek that place, foreigner, I can give you the only two clues left."

"My deepest impression of that place is that it lies in the utmost depths of the ground. And, near that gem cave flows a slow-moving, dark red subterranean river of lava."

"Of course, after experiencing the awakening of the Earth Dragon several times, I can’t guarantee whether that river of lava still exists..."

"Mr. Baggsen."

After listening to the old explorer’s story, Anvis slowly began to speak, pointing out a piece of information revealed in his words.

"According to your description just now, before you teleported back from that cave, you brought back a gemstone from within it?"

"Yes, not only that, but I still have that gemstone in my possession."

The old explorer nodded.

"To commemorate that beautiful Gem Cave, I’ve always kept it—instead of selling it to those strange merchants who offer high prices for gemstones."

"In that case, could you lend it to me? I can try using that gemstone as a medium to find the precise location of the cave."

Anvis smiled and made his request.

"Use it as a medium to find the cave?"

Hearing this, the old explorer looked at Anvis with his sharp blue-gray eyes.

"It’s useless. I’ve tried all the methods that could be attempted, even using the fabled Prophecy Scroll. But the result is no result at all; the Curse Field of this island conceals everything."

Shaking his head, Baggsen turned and walked into the house, only to return moments later, holding a child’s head-sized phantom purple, pure gemstone in his hand.

That was the largest piece of Heart of Amis raw ore Anvis had ever seen to date. Not counting the statue, the largest piece ’Evan’ had brought back previously was only slightly bigger than a fist.

"This is the gemstone I brought out of the cave. As long as you don’t take it away, feel free to try."

Looking at the gemstone in Baggsen’s hand, Anvis nodded and carefully grasped the gemstone, giving it a slight tug.

It didn’t budge.

The old explorer was holding on a bit tight.

Looking up at Baggsen with some confusion, he saw the old explorer’s smiling face.

"Foreigner, after speaking for so long, have you forgotten something?"

Anvis turned back, speechless.

"Jom, give him what you promised first—"

.........

It turned out that the old explorer was right.

Anvis tried some Prophetic magic, but all failed due to unknown interference.

Later, after obtaining a hand-drawn parchment map of the island from the old explorer, Anvis and Jom took their leave.

Watching the two departing figures, Baggsen casually erected a soundproof Barrier.

"So, have you really decided, Little Claire?"

"Yes, Uncle Baggsen. Even if it’s dangerous, I have to find a way to eliminate the Calamity Trait from myself."

The brown-haired young man standing beside him slowly spoke, but the voice was the original, somewhat ethereal voice of Claire.
