Chapter 142: Chapter 142: Orbin’s New Invention (Thanks to the first Helmsman of this book [愚者灬] 3/3)
December, the 30th.
After learning from Anvis that he was about to leave Pamir and head to the distant West Coast of the continent.
Orbins made an appointment with Anvis to meet at the Tower Restaurant this afternoon after the academy classes ended.
He had some things he planned to give to Anvis before he left—
.........
At exactly two o’clock in the afternoon, Anvis promptly pushed open the door of the private room they had reserved.
"You’ve arrived, Anvis, welcome—"
In the private room, stood Orbins wearing a strange mechanical helmet, protruding with many antenna-like structures.
His body was draped with shiny, cluttered metallic objects as he got up to welcome Anvis into the room.
"It’s a pleasure to see you, dear Albin! I heard you have something to give me?
Oh, wait a moment—let me guess! I think... you’ve made some new research breakthroughs, right?"
Seeing Orbins in his getup, Anvis smiled and got straight to the point with his question.
"You’re right, Anvis! That might be the only presentable result of my research since I enrolled in school!"
As soon as he mentioned this, Orbins’s expression immediately became one of great enthusiasm.
With the precious healing supplies provided by the Olivendi Family, Shirley has awoken and is currently in recovery.
Because his sister, on whom he depends so much, has awakened, he suddenly felt a burst of inspiration in his excitement.
Therefore, Orbins spent a whole week researching and creating an interesting new invention.
"Although according to the Contract, I indeed can casually create some trinkets to swindle some funding from you..."
While saying this, Orbins waved his hand.
"But to save your time, when exchanging those trinkets for funding, I always go straight to the contact you arranged for me."
"These things do not warrant a special mention, Orbins. It’s just a few thousand Gold Coins worth of stuff; our time is much more valuable than that!"
Anvis also waved his hand nonchalantly.
"Hmm, I think you’re right about that."
Orbins took a breath, nodded his head, and led Anvis to the center of the room.
Pointing at two items placed on the cedar wood table, he gestured for Anvis to have a look for himself.
"Take a look, this is it—"
It was a pair of peculiar two-toned metallic rings, each about sixty centimeters in diameter, shaped like a Möbius strip resembling those from Anvis’s previous world.
The color was split down the middle of the ring’s surface, one half white and the other black.
Between the rectangular concave and convex slits on the surface of the metallic rings, countless intricate circuits and Inscriptions were engraved.
"What do you think? Anvis, can you figure out what it does?"
Orbins looked at Anvis with animated excitement and a touch of pride in his voice, like a child showing off his candy to a playmate.
"Hmm—"
After carefully examining the Inscriptions on the surface of the ring, Anvis pondered for a moment and pointed to the twisted part of the ring.
"According to the structure of the Fitz Array in the Inscriptions here, it should relate to space, and its function is to distort space.
So, given the special single-sided structure of this pair of rings, I think this device’s purpose is to temporarily teleport objects no larger than the diameter of the rings.
"For instance, if you place a stone within the first ring and infuse it with magic power, the stone would appear within the second ring, just like that."
After listening to Anvis’s analysis, Orbins nodded in agreement, and then shook his head somewhat smugly.
"You’re quite right, Anvis, but you guess isn’t quite complete."
"My guess isn’t complete?"
Anvis looked at Orbins’s blue eyes with some ’surprise,’ seizing the initiative to speak before him.
"Oh, it actually can also establish a time-space connection in normal space-time—"
"It actually..."
Just as Orbins was about to speak, he abruptly stopped, swallowing his words with a slightly disgruntled expression.
"Yes, Anvis, that’s exactly what I was going to say..."
For a moment, he mulled over Anvis’s recent demeanor, then suddenly caught on.
"Wait a minute, Anvis, don’t tell me you already knew about this?"
"Oh, how could that be, dear Albin, it was merely a fluke—"
Anvis immediately raised his hands, a standard smile taught by etiquette teachers on his face, showing his open palms to Orbins, indicating his complete innocence.
"I’ve just had the fortune to encounter a teleportation array that directly establishes a connection in normal space-time in the ruins before."
"Really? Anvis, would it be possible to draw it out... so that I may observe and study it as well?"
Watching Anvis’s almost transparently feigned manner, Orbins’s eyelids twitched, he took a deep breath, his voice edging on dangerous.
"There’s no need to get worked up, Albin, of course—it’s possible—"
Anvis smiled, then relying on memory, he sketched the pattern of the teleportation sub-array he had once seen in a secret chamber with Claire and Pekara.
"Hmm..."
Orbins examined the array Anvis had outlined closely; although some details were missing, based on the drafting process, the array indeed seemed designed to establish a time-space connection in normal space.
The reason for specifically mentioning this is because general spatial magic establishes a time-space connection through third-state space.
In third-state space, all matter exists in an energy state.
This means, supposing a caster teleports from point A to point B, they don’t teleport directly.
Rather, the moment they enter the teleportation gate at point A, their body completely transforms into an energy state, then at point B, they are restored to a physical state, adding an extra step of changing form.
This results in many complications; certain mysterious objects with special concepts cannot be teleported, and the magic power consumption increases exponentially with the mass of the teleported object.
A normal time-space connection, however, differs. This kind of teleportation gate can connect two points directly, as if passing through an ordinary door.
The greatest advantage of this form of teleportation is stability; teleported objects are only limited by volume, without many other assorted restrictions.
Despite still feeling somewhat unsatisfied, Orbins resigned to the fact and waved his hand dismissively.
"Alright, alright, I concede my lack of knowledge—"
"I’ve named this device the ’Normal Space Transmission Ring.’
Its function is to open interconnected teleportation gates in normal space-time.
Each ring is divided into black and white; entering from one color, you’ll come out of the same color on the other ring
However, due to material and energy supply issues, the maximum distance between the two rings cannot exceed three meters; surpassing that, the time-space entanglement becomes unstable.
If you were to use better materials in its construction, you might be able to extend that entanglement distance."
