Chapter 683: Chapter 681: Hahaha_1
Barrage of comments—
"Is Xia Ningxing obsessive or what? She even timed her entrance?"
"That acceptance speech was too brief!"
"Hahaha!"
"My Baby Xing is just too cute!"
"While others can’t wait to give lengthy thanks, she brushed it off in one sentence!"
"This has got to be the shortest speech in history."
"No matter what, congratulations to Baby Xing!"
"Baby Xing is the best!"
The barrage of comments once again flooded the screen.
At this moment, Xia Ningxing had already returned to her seat.
Seeing her back, Chuanchuan couldn’t help but cover his mouth and laugh, "Mommy, your speech was so simple and shocking!"
"Isn’t it refreshing to be different from those long-winded speeches?" Xia Ningxing said with a smile as she rubbed his little head.
"That’s true!" Chuanchuan nodded his little head, then gave her a thumbs up, "Mommy is so smart!"
Xia Ningxing: "..."
Smart? She just felt too lazy to talk.
Heaven knows how much she wanted to drink water!
After the award ceremony ended, Reyno couldn’t resist extending his hand to Xia Ningxing, his brown eyes filled with warmth, "Xia Ningxing, I hope we will have the chance to work together again."
"I’m sorry, senior, I don’t think there will be another time," Xia Ningxing replied, shaking her head instead of shaking his hand.
"What’s wrong?" Reyno frowned, as if he didn’t understand what she meant.
It wasn’t that he didn’t understand, but that he didn’t want to believe.
Such a good actress, and at the peak of her career – why would she think of retiring?
"I’m planning to retire," Xia Ningxing answered.
Reyno sighed deeply.
Although he had guessed it, hearing her say it still made him tremble.
"This is truly regrettable," Reyno said with sorrow, and couldn’t help but glance at Lu Tingli.
It must be that this man didn’t want his wife to be in the public eye!
He had heard that the Star Shine’s wealthy families had many rules, especially for new brides.
Things like no public exposure, no clubbing, no dressing too attractively... and so on, a whole bunch of rules.
The more Reyno thought about it, the more he felt Xia Ningxing was pitiful, almost like a canary kept in a cage with no freedom.
Xia Ningxing could obviously see he had misunderstood, and couldn’t help but explain further, "Retiring is my own choice, in the future I’d like to be a better mother and a better CEO rather than an actress."
These things were far more important to the current Xia Ningxing than acting.
"So that’s how it is," Reyno said with a bitter smile.
He had thought she was being pressured, and he was secretly delighted, thinking Xia Ningxing must have some resentment towards Lu Tingli and once there were cracks, the marriage would essentially be over!
But he hadn’t expected that the decision was her own.
Clearly, she cared deeply about her marriage, her child, and her husband.
Now, their chances of divorce seemed incredibly slim!
Reyno couldn’t quite name the taste in his heart – it was a mix of unwilling envy and even some sadness.
"It’s getting late, we should go back. Didn’t we say there’s a party tonight?" Lu Tingli interrupted their conversation and started leading Xia Ningxing away by the hand while talking.
"Senior, we’ll be taking our leave first," Xia Ningxing nodded to Reyno and then left with Lu Tingli, chatting and laughing together.
Reyno looked at the retreating figures of the perfect couple and once again, envy and jealousy surfaced in his eyes.
How wonderful!
But why wasn’t it him standing by her side?
At that moment, Director Carl patted his shoulder and earnestly advised, "Their affection as husband and wife is really strong; I think you have no hope. It’s better to let go of those feelings sooner rather than later."
"I can’t give up now, I’m not content," Reyno shook his head, a foolish determination twinkling in his eyes against the night sky.
Seeing this, Director Carl could only shake his head wordlessly, knowing he couldn’t persuade him.
That night, everyone came to the party at Lu Tingli’s villa in UA to celebrate for Xia Ningxing.
Champagne and desserts, lights and floral scents, everyone sat around the long table, chatting and laughing.
"First, let us congratulate our superstar Xia Ningxing on her award!"
"Congratulations, congratulations!"
Everyone cheerfully raised their glasses towards Xia Ningxing.
"Mommy is the best!" Even Baby Xing lifted his glass.
Only his glass was filled with blueberry juice.
"Thank you, Chuanchuan! Thank you, everyone!" Xia Ningxing stood up and clinked glasses with everyone.
After taking a sip, she added, "Everyone, enjoy yourselves!"
"Ok!"
Everyone replied with a laugh.
Midway through, Jiang Miaomiao yawned, her eyelids fighting a battle: "Ningxing, I’m tired, I need to rest first, you guys continue having fun."
"Then let me walk you," Xia Ningxing prepared to stand up.
Jiang Miaomiao smiled and declined, "No need, I have Bai with me."
"Alright then." Xia Ningxing was reassured and nodded. "Your room is on the second floor, the first bedroom."
"Got it, Ningxing," Jiang Miaomiao responded.
Leaving the entertainment hall of the villa, one needed to walk past the swimming pool and fountain, and through a garden to reach the main building.
This trek would take about twenty minutes.
The night sky hung high with stars, the unique lighting illuminating the villa, and the fountain’s water reflecting a dazzling, otherworldly glow.
Jiang Miaomiao, holding Jiang Bai’s hand, remarked while walking, "This place is so beautiful!"
"Then wait for me a few years," Jiang Bai suddenly said beside her.
"What?" Jiang Miaomiao stopped in her tracks, blinking in confusion at him.
Jiang Bai reached out and gently tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear, softly saying, "I meant wait for me a few years to make enough money to buy you a villa like this one."
As Jiang Miaomiao stood frozen, he continued, "And you still like Chuanchuan so much, right? In the future, we can adopt another lively child like him to keep by our side, to be part of his growing up process, and to experience the joy of parenthood."
"Such a life would be wonderful," Jiang Miaomiao couldn’t help but visualize this future.
If she wasn’t so painfully aware of her own body’s condition, she probably would have jumped for joy upon hearing his words.
But now, all she felt was endless sorrow.
"Bai, can you promise me one thing?"
She suddenly became serious, looking up at him with every strand of her eyebrows filled with earnestness.
Jiang Bai looked down gently at her, "Miaomiao, you tell me. Whatever it is, I’ll promise you!"
Jiang Miaomiao parted her lips several times before tremblingly managing to utter a sentence, "If—Bai, I’m just saying if—one day I were to leave you, you have to live well. Don’t do anything foolish, okay?"
Jiang Miaomiao instructed him with a smile.
But below her eyes, tears were welling up, and to keep him from noticing, she held them back fiercely, refusing to let them fall.
