Chapter 600: Chapter 598 Have You Heard It?_1
Xia Ningxing didn’t know what to say, so she ended up planting a kiss on her mother’s cheek.
Having been kissed by her daughter, Mrs. Xia Ning was as happy as if she had consumed sugar, and then said, "Daughter, it seems like you don’t have a wedding planned yet. When do you intend to hold it? I will definitely prepare a generous dowry for you!"
She was determined to send her daughter off in a grand and splendid wedding!
"Mom, there’s no need," Xia Ningxing shook her head, not wanting her to spend excessively.
However, Mrs. Xia Ning insisted, "How can there be no need? You are my only child; if I don’t leave my things to you, then to whom shall I leave them? It is a must!"
"Alright, alright, it’s needed!" Xia Ningxing had no choice but to go along with her mother’s wishes.
At this moment, Xia Ningxing couldn’t have foreseen that in the future, her two mothers would actually "argue" over the matter of the dowry.
A good night’s sleep.
Ever since her husband died and her daughter was lost in a different space-time, Mrs. Xia Ning hadn’t had a good night’s sleep.
Even consuming a lot of medicine proved ineffective.
Because this was a sickness of the heart.
What she needed wasn’t external medicine but the medicine of the heart.
But that night, she slept very soundly.
Mrs. Xia Ning knew it was because of the "medicine for the heart."
"Daughter, good morning," Mrs. Xia Ning said, imitating the foreign custom of a kiss, she kissed Xia’s forehead.
"Good morning," Xia Ningxing also gently kissed her mother’s cheek.
Xia Ningxing suggested, "After breakfast, would you like to go to the Book Pavilion?"
"Yes, yes, yes!" Xia Ningxing couldn’t wait to start reading books, and immediately nodded.
By the time Xia Ningxing and her mother entered the Book Pavilion, the place was already full of the Ning Family disciples.
Everyone was reading books as if racing against time.
As soon as Xia Ningxing entered, she felt a serious and grave atmosphere, as if she had arrived at a battlefield.
Indeed, this was a battlefield, just without the smoke of gunpowder.
"Family Head."
Upon seeing Mrs. Xia Ning, everyone greeted her respectfully.
Facing people other than Xia Ningxing, Mrs. Xia Ning would become quite stern and cold, nodding expressionlessly, she then pulled Xia towards the inner chamber of the pavilion.
The medical texts in the inner chamber were all part of the Ning Family’s thousand-year heritage, complex and difficult to comprehend.
When they entered the inner chamber, Xia Ningxing found that there were not many disciples inside.
Moreover, every one of them was frowning deeply, gritting their teeth, and scratching their heads, as if the medical texts in their hands were personal enemies.
Was it really that difficult?
"Xia, go ahead and read. I have matters to deal with in the clan, so I can’t stay here with you," Mrs. Xia Ning said with a gentle look in her eyes.
In the presence of others, Mrs. Xia Ning dared not call Xia Ningxing her daughter, fearing that others with ulterior motives might guess the truth about her having crossed over from another world.
"It’s alright, Master. Go take care of your business; I can read by myself. If there is something I don’t understand, I’ll make a note of it and ask you later," Xia Ningxing nodded in response.
Mrs. Xia Ning smiled, "Good."
Afterward, Xia Ningxing began to read.
She hadn’t realized just how engrossed she would become - once she started reading, it was like a thirsting traveler in the desert finding an oasis, she began to drink in the words voraciously.
And most importantly, she easily grasped these difficult and esoteric medical texts.
Because the words seemed to come alive, unfolding images in her mind.
Xia Ningxing knew she didn’t have much time and her foundation was weaker than others, so she had to read these books as quickly as possible.
Soon, Xia Ningxing’s method of reading ten lines at a glance attracted the attention of many.
There was no helping it; everyone else was staring gloomily at a single page, while she turned pages every few seconds as if it were a game, which was truly too provocative!
"Are you all seriously saying that Xia is actually reading books?"
"Reading? What a joke! Skimming would be more like it!"
"This is quite amusing!"
"She wouldn’t think she has a photographic memory, would she?"
"Why do you think she’s doing this? If she’s trying to show off, there’s no point—the Family Head isn’t even here!"
"Exactly!"
Murmurs of hushed whispers filled the surroundings.
On a normal day, with Xia Ningxing’s sharp hearing, she would have heard everything clearly, but now it was as if she had entered a deserted place, with only her studies occupying her mind.
So she didn’t hear a word.
Until someone came up and gave her a shove.
"Reading so quickly, do you think you can remember any of it?"
The other party clearly wanted to embarrass her, so they pushed with quite a bit of force.
Only, they didn’t move Xia Ningxing an inch.
Seeing this, Ning Xiaoyou couldn’t help but widen her eyes in disbelief, staring at her.
She had used so much force, so why hadn’t Ningxing stumbled and fallen to the ground?
As she puzzled over this, she felt a chill on top of her head and instinctively looked up, meeting Xia Ningxing’s cold eyes: "What are you doing?"
"Me... What else could I be doing? Just saying hi!" Under the public gaze, Ning Xiaoyou certainly wouldn’t admit that she had wanted to push Xia Ningxing over, so she hastily came up with a flimsy excuse.
"Oh," Xia Ningxing said as if she believed it, and then she too raised her hand and pushed Ning Xiaoyou.
Ning Xiaoyou staggered, nearly falling over.
After regaining her balance, she glared at Xia Ningxing with gritted teeth: "What the hell are you doing?"
"Just saying hi," Xia Ningxing replied with an innocent face.
"Who greets people like that?" Ning Xiaoyou’s voice shot up instantly.
The onlookers immediately turned their attention to the two, their eyes holding the look of spectators eager for drama.
In response to her accusation, Xia Ningxing remained unfazed, retorting with a half-smile: "Isn’t that how you just pushed me? How hard you pushed, you know it in your heart. If I hadn’t been standing firm, I might already be sprawled on the ground!"
"Don’t you dare slander me!" Ning Xiaoyou would not admit it.
Xia Ningxing coldly stated, "I have a clear conscience."
Afterwards, Xia Ningxing wasted no more time and went back to reading.
Her method of reading ten lines at a glance left Ning Xiaoyou speechless: "Reading so fast, do you remember anything?"
"Whether I remember or not, what’s it to you?" Xia Ningxing frowned, utterly annoyed by the persistent buzzing in her ear.
"It may not be my business, but mark my words, I will make sure you lose miserably," Ning Xiaoyou had wanted to confront her with a question and then embarrass Xia Ningxing in public, but she also didn’t want to displease her aunt, so she only left a harsh threat.
Xia Ningxing was slightly speechless, not understanding why these people always felt the need to drop threats before a confrontation.
Was this some sort of villain habit?
And they said it with such certainty!
Way too arrogant!
Not afraid of getting slapped in the face?
"Did you hear me?" Seeing that she hadn’t responded, Ning Xiaoyou immediately glared, watching Xia fiercely.
"Well then, I’ll be watching," Xia Ningxing finally deigned to reply.
Ning Xiaoyou raised her chin high, and before leaving, she dropped another line: "Just you wait!"
After she had left, Ning Mo unintentionally noticed Mrs. Xia Ning approaching from this direction, and with a slight flutter of her eyelashes, she promptly went up to Xia Ningxing and said gently, "Miss Xia, my sister is just a bit hot-headed and rash, please don’t take it to heart."
