Chapter 538: Chapter 536 No Need No Need_1
"Take your vomit with you!" Nanny Wu threw the garbage bin directly into her arms.
Mrs. Jiang clenched her teeth in hatred and left gasping with anger, clutching the garbage bin.
After she left, a trace of helplessness appeared on Mrs. Song’s graceful face as she gently patted Xia Ningxing’s hand and said, "Miss Xia, you shouldn’t be angry with Jiang. That’s just the way she is. She lives in poor conditions, so she always loves to take advantage of others, but she’s not a bad person."
Xia Ningxing smiled but did not speak.
Just because someone is in a difficult situation, does it entitle them to take advantage of others?
What kind of twisted logic is that?
Xia Ningxing had come to realize that Mrs. Jiang was the kind to take advantage, and now Mrs. Song seemed to be the overly generous kind.
Aware that her words might have been inappropriate, Mrs. Song immediately corrected herself, "But I don’t condone her behavior, after all, taking advantage of others is not a good thing."
"Mhmm," Xia Ningxing nodded lightly.
Seeing this, Mrs. Song also nodded, "Well, girl, it’s getting late. I’ll head back to cook. I live just north of your place. If you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to come to me. I’ll do everything in my power to help you."
"Thank you," Xia Ningxing sincerely expressed her gratitude.
No matter what kind of person the other is, as long as they are sincere towards her, she would reciprocate with sincerity.
And vice versa.
"Alright then, I’ll take my leave." Mrs. Song waved gently as she got up to leave.
"Take care, Mrs. Song," Xia Ningxing said as she watched her leave.
Once she was gone, as Nanny Wu was sorting the vegetables, she muttered, "It seems Mrs. Song is someone we can get along with. As for Mrs. Jiang, it’s better to forget about her."
"Mrs. Jiang is simply outrageous. She did little work and wasted a bag of cookies that were meant for Miss Xia. If the old master knew that his gift for Miss Xia was squandered by that woman, he would not be able to resist hitting her on the head with his cane!" Nanny Wu ranted indignantly.
"But Mrs. Song is different. I saw how she tidied up the room. So neat and careful, she’s definitely a good person!"
"Nanny Wu, don’t jump to conclusions so quickly. It takes time to truly understand a person’s character," Xia Ningxing cautioned.
Xia Ningxing wasn’t convinced by her words, glancing up at the clear blue sky.
Mrs. Jiang was transparent, but the gentle Mrs. Song always gave her an indescribable feeling.
At the moment, she wasn’t sure if this feeling was good or bad.
So, until a person is fully understood, one should refrain from getting too close.
Nanny Wu nodded, "Xingxing is right. We can’t judge a person’s character just by their appearance and personality, because what’s in their heart is hidden behind their belly."
Sometimes, those with a fierce appearance might have a gentle heart, while those who look kind may be filled with evil inside.
One can never be sure.
After lunch, Nanny Wu talked to Xia Ningxing about raising chickens.
"Xingxing, with such a big yard lying idle, I was thinking of growing some vegetables, and in the corner, we can raise some chickens. That way, Miss, you can have fresh, pesticide-free chicken eggs every day."
"That’s all fine," Xia Ningxing nodded her approval.
"Then I’ll go set up the chicken coop," Nanny Wu said gleefully.
Being a restless and skilled woman, Nanny Wu not only finished making the chicken coop by the afternoon but also turned over the previously neglected ground in the yard and planted some seasonal vegetables.
"Having the coop without chickens won’t do. I need to go find out who has chicks for sale and get a couple," Nanny Wu muttered to herself and was about to leave when she saw Mrs. Song knocking and entering the door.
And in her hands, she was carrying two chicks.
"Auntie, I heard you made a chicken coop, so I come uninvited to bring you a couple of chicks. I hope you don’t mind," Mrs. Song said with a smile as she walked in.
"How could it be!" Nanny Wu said as she glanced at the chicken in her hands.
It was fat and plump, clearly a healthy and fine chick.
It seemed that Mrs. Song had truly come over to give them the chicken sincerely.
"Sister, how much?" Xia Ningxing, who had been reading inside the house, heard the commotion and came out to ask.
When Mrs. Song saw Xia Ningxing was about to pay, she quickly waved her hands: "No need, no need, we are all neighbors here, no money needed!"
"Wow, if it’s for free, then Mrs. Song, you might as well give me two as well!" Mrs. Jiang, whose arrival was unbeknownst to them, immediately couldn’t resist taking advantage when she heard this.
Her home was right next door, so upon hearing that Mrs. Song was actually bringing chickens to Xia Ningxing’s place, she hurried over prepared to catch a windfall.
Mrs. Song’s face turned somewhat awkward. She had completely not anticipated Mrs. Jiang pulling such a move, but being a gentle person she couldn’t bring herself to refuse, stammering for quite a while before managing to find a tactful way to say, "Jiang, I don’t have that many chicks left at my home."
"No problem, if there aren’t many, just giving me one is fine, I won’t mind," Mrs. Jiang said unapologetically.
What’s called shameless?
This is!
Xia Ningxing silently took a sip of her tea, calming her nerves.
"Song, take this money. Consider it as if we are buying it," Nanny Wu could no longer stand by and watch Mrs. Jiang take such advantage, so she pulled a fifty-dollar bill out of her pocket and stuffed it into Mrs. Song’s hands.
Afterward, she glared at Mrs. Jiang, "If you want chicks, then you should pay for them too."
In all her years, she had never seen a woman who was so good at taking advantage of others!
Living a tightfisted life, Mrs. Jiang couldn’t bear to spend so much money on chicks. She snorted with a huff of "I don’t care for it" and left dejectedly.
"Tch!"
Nanny Wu couldn’t help but spit at her retreating figure.
Evening.
When Lu Tingli came back, he saw a pair of fluffy little chicks lying in the chicken coop in the yard—golden and plump, snuggled tightly together, their eyelids constantly fighting sleep, looking adorably clueless.
Lu Tingli raised an eyebrow and strode into the main room with his long legs.
On the sofa, Xia Ningxing had already fallen asleep.
Her head was propped on the sofa, her stunningly fair face peaceful and serene, her fan-like long and thick eyelashes casting a shadow.
Nanny Wu was about to come over to wake her.
Lu Tingli gave her a look, and Nanny Wu immediately understood and stepped back.
"Ningxing," he strode over to her, crouched in front of her, and called her name softly, "Wake up, let’s go back to our room to sleep."
Upon hearing him, Xia Ningxing opened her eyes, and seeing it was him, her sleepiness vanished as she smiled, her eyes curving, "Lu."
She was about to get up, but Lu Tingli gently pressed her down:
"Don’t move, I’ll carry you back to our room."
"Okay."
Xia Ningxing obediently stayed still, extending her arms, waiting for him to carry her.
Lu Tingli steadily picked up the girl into his arms and then walked towards the master bedroom.
The house had a total of three bedrooms, with Xia Ningxing and Lu Tingli staying in the master bedroom and Nanny Wu in the secondary bedroom.
The two rooms were quite far apart, so they had good privacy.
