Chapter 370: Chapter 328: Lu Family Recognizes Relatives 5_1
Thinking this way, Sir Lu’s gaze became even more affectionate. The old man’s face said, "Miss Xia, you’ll have your work cut out for you in what comes next."
"There’s no need for thanks." Xia Ningxing had already sterilized the silver needles and turned to nod at him with a smile.
Sir Lu also responded with a smile, then slowly closed his eyes. He showed no fear, only tranquility and calm.
Having weathered many storms, he naturally remained much calmer in the face of life and death than most people.
"Let’s begin."
His voice was aged and weak, but also composed.
Xia Ningxing admired him from the bottom of her heart.
...
An hour later, the first acupuncture detoxification session officially concluded.
Xia Ningxing’s fair forehead was covered in glistening beads of sweat, and she breathed heavily as if she had just run a marathon.
Though acupuncture might look easy, as if simply inserting needles into points is all it takes, the actual execution is far from that simple.
Then, Xia Ningxing opened the door to the sickroom.
"Miss Xia, how is my father?" Aunt Lu hurried over to grasp her hand, her eyes filled with nervousness, and hope.
Which child doesn’t wish for their parents’ safety?
But Lu Lao’er didn’t wish for it!
He too was staring intently at Xia Ningxing, hoping she would announce that Sir Lu had passed away.
Xia Ningxing didn’t keep them in suspense: "Sir Lu’s detoxification went smoothly, everyone needn’t worry."
As her words fell, Aunt Lu and the others immediately cried tears of joy: "That’s wonderful!"
Sir Lu was saved!
He was saved!
Only Lu Lao’er looked like a frostbitten eggplant, forcing a smile that was both strained and insincere. His fingers clenched tightly, and hatred surged within him, as if he wished he could tear Xia Ningxing’s heart to shreds.
Xia Ningxing noticed his displeased look and could not help but frown as she looked up at him.
How strange this man was, to see his own father having hope of recovery and yet appear so unhappy!
Realizing his own gaffe, Lu Lao’er quickly adjusted his expression and managed to look happy as he joined the others to visit Sir Lu in the sickroom.
"Miss Xia, thank you for saving my father!" Dean Lu quickly stepped forward, his face full of gratitude. Seeing her pale and sweating profusely, he immediately supported her, his eyes carrying concern: "Miss Xia, are you alright? Nothing’s wrong, is it?"
Xia Ningxing shook her head: "I’m fine. You should go see Sir Lu. I’m going to check on my friend Tao Tao."
"Then let me escort you." Dean Lu started to follow, worried she might have an accident.
"That’s not necessary." Xia Ningxing shook her head again and wiped the sweat from her forehead: "Don’t worry, I really am fine."
Seeing her firm stance, Dean Lu could only nod in agreement.
When Xia Ningxing returned to the sickroom, Tao Tao was being fed by the little princess.
As soon as Tao Tao caught sight of her from the corner of her eye, she smile and said, "Xiaxia, how did it go? Were you able to save the dean’s father?"
"I was." Xia Ningxing nodded and walked in. Seeing Tao Tao’s daughter in her arms, her gaze softened: "Have you thought of a name yet?"
"Yes, her formal name is Tao Tangtang, ’Tang’ as in sugar cube, and her nickname is Little Sweetie." Tao Tao replied.
"Little Sweetie?" Xia Ningxing couldn’t help raising her eyebrows slightly, finding the name quite interesting.
"Yes, Little Sweetie." Tao Tao’s face was filled with happiness and sweetness, "The moment I saw my daughter, my heart felt as sweet as if I had eaten a piece of milk candy, so I named her that. Does it sound nice?"
"It sounds very nice," Xia Ningxing nodded vigorously, adding, "The formal name is nice too."
After speaking, Xia Ningxing glanced at the watch on her wrist.
The wristwatch she wore was still the diamond one that Lu Tingli had given her before. Although the strap had broken, Lu Tingli had it fixed by returning it to the factory.
It was already seven o’clock in the evening.
Xia Ningxing said, "Taozi, it’s getting late, I’ll go buy you some dinner, and then I should head back, I’ll come to see you again tomorrow."
"Thank you, Xiaxia," tears welled up in Tao Tao’s eyes.
Her blood relatives didn’t even bother to glance at her when she gave birth. If it weren’t for Xia Ningxing, she’d have to do everything by herself, like buying meals and other trifles.
"Don’t mention it," Xia Ningxing rolled her eyes at her before going out to buy food.
After getting the food, Xia Ningxing found a care worker to provide 24-hour companionship for Tao Tao. After all, she had her own affairs to take care of and couldn’t always stay by her side. Having a care worker look after her offered some peace of mind.
...
For several days in a row, Xia Ningxing had been performing acupuncture on Sir Lu.
Sir Lu was becoming increasingly alert with each day, and the Lu family was overjoyed.
Of course, with the exception of Jianren.
How could he possibly be happy about it? Once Sir Lu recovered, with his health, he could probably live another twenty or thirty years. Jianren did not have the patience to keep waiting.
He had to think of a way to stop Xia Ningxing from continuing to treat Sir Lu with acupuncture!
Jianren’s eyes swiveled, flashing a malicious and vicious gleam.
The next day, as usual, Xia Ningxing came to the hospital to perform acupuncture on Sir Lu.
Just as she was about to cross the hospital corridor, a man wearing a duckbill cap and a black mask approached her. A sense of vigilance flashed in Xia Ningxing’s eyes, and her instinct told her this man was very likely coming for her.
As Xia Ningxing prepared to quicken her pace, the man made his move!
A sharp and cold knife slid from his sleeve into his palm; gripping the handle, the man hurriedly stabbed towards Xia Ningxing.
He didn’t aim anywhere else but directly at Xia Ningxing’s hand, seemingly intending to injure her hand.
Xia Ningxing’s eyes turned cold, ready to counterattack, when suddenly she heard a "thump," followed immediately by the man’s cries of pain.
Xia Ningxing turned her head and saw the man collapsed on the ground, a knife standing upright in his heart, his hand still on the handle.
Xia Ningxing: ???
"Oh my God! Someone’s committed suicide!"
Someone nearby saw this scene and screamed at once.
"Quick, call an ambulance!"
"We’re at the hospital, what’s the use of calling an ambulance!"
Amidst the commotion, the hospital had already received the news and sent out a gurney.
"Why the sudden suicide!" Dean Lu, who had hurried over upon hearing the news, furrowed his brows at the sight of the man’s self-inflicted death. As a doctor, he hated nothing more than patients who don’t cherish their lives.
And he had come all the way to his hospital to kill himself!
Those in the know would understand that he simply wished to end his life, but others might think their hospital had treated him with utter inhumanity!
"Hurry and take him to emergency!" He and the emergency doctors quickly carried the man to the stretcher, and as the man was rushed off for treatment, Dean Lu turned around and realized that Xia Ningxing was also here.
