Chapter 332: Chapter 330: A Letter from Lu Tingli_1

Wu Wenwen turned around, her gaze fierce and menacing as she stared at her, "Xia Ningxing, what are you up to now?"

"The beating just now didn’t satisfy me, it felt like being tickled," Xia Ningxing lifted her eyes, batting her lashes as she looked at her. "What’s wrong, don’t have the strength? If really it’s too much for you, I think I should take over..."

"That’s enough from you!" Wu Wenwen was now shaking all over with rage, like she was afflicted with Parkinson’s, her eyes so bloodshot they seemed about to burst into flame.

Slap!

Wu Wenwen again slapped herself hard, utter humiliation in her voice as she roared at Xia Ningxing, "Are you satisfied now?"

"Mm, quite satisfied," Xia Ningxing finally nodded.

Ah, they dared to slander her, and without a lesson, they really thought she, Xia Ningxing, was easy to bully?

Wu Wenwen’s fingers clenched tightly, her eyes full of resentment towards Xia Ningxing, and finally with a "waah" she hid in the kang bed and began to cry as if she had suffered a great injustice.

Xu Li and others clearly enjoyed watching the drama, yet on the surface, they still pretended to be friends with Wu Wenwen and hurried over to comfort her.

Xia Ningxing and Ruan Ruanruan paid no further attention to them.

Xia Ningxing had already received the reply from Lu Tingli and her family.

She couldn’t wait to open it.

The first letter was from Lu Tingli.

To my dearest Baby Xing:

Receiving your letter filled my heart with joy.

Baby Xing, missing you, missing you, missing you day and night.

Baby Xing, longing for you, longing for you, longing day and night.

In the days without you by my side, I finally personally understood what the ancients meant when they said ’a day apart feels like three autumns.’

Take good care of yourself, I’ll be waiting for you to come back.

Signed: Lu Tingli.

Xia Ningxing looked at his letter, and unbidden, an image appeared in her mind of him sitting at his desk, penning the letter.

She missed him so much!

Xia Ningxing’s eyes reddened involuntarily, and she carefully folded the letter in her hands, hiding it under her pillow.

Then she opened the letter from her family and wrote back to them one by one.

The next day, Sun Elementary School officially started, and after Xia Ningxing arranged teaching tasks for Ruan Ruanruan and the others, she entered the classroom.

Xia Ningxing was teaching sixth grade.

When she first entered the classroom, she noticed that one student was missing. Xia Ningxing looked at the seating chart on the lectern and discovered the missing student’s name—Luo Xiaohua.

Seeing this name, Xia Ningxing couldn’t help but widen her eyes in surprise.

This girl was a well-known composer in the book. Despite her humble rural origins, she carried the bloodline of an outstanding musician in her veins. Her maternal grandmother was a distinguished musician who had studied abroad but was later sent down to the countryside, where she eventually settled down after getting married.

However, the book did not contain much information about her, so Xia Ningxing did not know much about Luo Xiaohua.

Just as Xia Ningxing was about to ask the other students if they knew why Luo Xiaohua hadn’t come to school, a feeble female voice emanated from the doorway.

"Re, report..."

Xia Ningxing turned to look.

The girl was small and skinny, her complexion sallow and thin. She must have been at least twelve or thirteen, being in the sixth grade, but she looked more like she was eight or nine years old. Her clothes were layered with patches, and the shoes on her feet had a hole in them.

At that moment, she was trembling, staring fearfully at Xia Ningxing as if afraid of being punished.

Sensing her anxiety and fear, Xia Ningxing immediately flashed a kind smile, "Come in, but don’t you be late again next time."

The girl visibly relaxed, sneaking into the classroom, "I know, thank you, teacher."

"Wait a moment." As she entered, Xia Ningxing noticed a bruise on her face, looking as if someone had hit her.

"What happened to your face? And there on your arm?" Xia Ningxing frowned as she saw multiple marks of beating on the girl’s body.

Who would be so heartless as to hit a child around ten years old?

"I... I fell by myself..." Luo Xiaohua’s gaze immediately became shifty, and she mumbled without willing to tell the truth.

Xia Ningxing’s frown deepened, she had wanted to press for the truth, but remembering that class had already started, she decided to wait until after class to ask for details.

However, as soon as class ended, Xia Ningxing was called away by the counselor because inspectors from higher up had arrived and asked her to quickly make some of her best dishes to serve them.

It wasn’t until evening that Xia Ningxing could catch her breath. Thinking of the shocking bruises on Luo Xiaohua, she resolved to find out the truth the next day.

If she hadn’t known, it could have been overlooked, but now that she did, she would help this senior figure out no matter what.

She had to see who would deal such a cruel hand to such a young child — it was inhuman!

What Xia Ningxing didn’t expect was that Luo Xiaohua didn’t come to school the next day and hadn’t asked for leave either.

Remembering her bruised appearance from the day before, Xia Ningxing had a bad feeling and immediately asked the children in the class, "Classmates, does anyone know where Luo Xiaohua lives?"

Could something have happened?

Xia Ningxing couldn’t shake off her concern and decided to look for her in person.

Upon hearing her question, the students immediately guessed her intention and hurriedly shook their heads—

"Teacher, are you going to Xiaohua’s house to find her? I advise you not to go. There’s always fighting in her house, be careful not to get beaten up."

"Yeah, teacher, let me tell you, Xiaohua’s dad loves to drink and is a drunkard. He beats up Xiaohua and her mom mercilessly when he’s drunk."

"And every time, he beats them to the brink of death!"

"Yeah, it’s really scary!"

"I guess Xiaohua got beaten up again today, so she can’t come to school."

Most of the students in the class were from the same village or a neighboring one, so they had some understanding of Luo Xiaohua’s situation.

Hearing this, images formed in Xia Ningxing’s mind, and her heart clenched. She inquired about Xiaohua’s address and immediately rushed out of the classroom.

Who could have imagined such a prominent composer had such a tragic childhood!

Ruan Ruanruan had just come out of the fifth-grade classroom and, seeing Xia Ningxing hurrying, couldn’t help but ask, "Xiaxia, where are you going?"

"I have some matters to attend to!" Xia Ningxing pinched her fingers, and then, as something occurred to her, she said to Ruan Ruanruan, "Ruanruan, could you help me look after the sixth graders for a while?"

"No problem!" Ruan Ruanruan nodded immediately.

Xia Ningxing then sprinted down the mountain at a hundred-meter-dash pace.

Wu Wenwen, who saw this scene in its entirety, could not help but curl her lips, preparing to report her to the counselor for shirking duties.

The school was at the top of the mountain, and Luo Xiaohua’s house was in the village at the bottom.

Xia Ningxing quickly found Luo Xiaohua’s home. Before she could enter, though, she heard shouting and cursing from inside—

"Damn it, I’m going to kill you, little wretch!"

"And you, worthless woman, can’t even bear a son. What’s the use of you? Tomorrow, I’m going to divorce you."

Through the courtyard, Xia Ningxing saw a man drunk on liquor spewing out muddled filth, breaking dishes, smashing bowls, flipping tables, with body swaying, bottle in hand, kicking at the mother and daughter on the ground.

Kick after heartless kick, as if aiming to kill.

Xiaohua and her mother let out harrowing cries, trying to run, but were pulled back firmly, resulting in an even more violent storm of abuse.

Finally, the mother and daughter huddled together as if resigned to their fate, letting him have his way.

Xia Ningxing’s eyes reddened instantly, fingers clenched tightly with veins popping out in furious rage.

Beasts!

Lower than pigs and dogs, these beasts!

Such people don’t deserve to be fathers or husbands!

Just as Xia Ningxing was about to rush in to rescue them, an old woman hurriedly came and stopped her.
