Chapter 273: Chapter 273: It’s a Two-Way Rush_1
"Lu!" Seeing him unharmed, Xia Ningxing was so overjoyed that she didn’t even notice her own change in the way she addressed him. In that moment, she leaped off her chair and threw herself into his arms. "You’re alright! That’s so good!"
Listening to his strong heartbeat, thumping loudly, Xia Ningxing instantly felt a surge of safety, and the nightmare shadows began to dissipate quite a bit.
Heaven knows how torn and pained and frantic her heart had been when she saw his uncertain fate in the earthquake!
To say her heart felt as if it were being cut with knives would not be exaggerating.
The heartache was not only because a huge inheritance might have been lost with the earthquake. It was more about him as a person.
She didn’t want him to die.
She wanted him to live well, even if it meant she wouldn’t inherit the wealth!
"Wow! They are actually hugging each other!" The teammates spying from behind the door watched the two embrace and almost jumped with excitement, acting as if Xia Ningxing was hugging them instead.
"I’m so jealous! Captain Lu’s childhood friend is too handsome!"
"I’m jealous too!"
"And Captain Lu’s attitude towards his childhood friend... he’s like a little puppy. Why does he turn into a Tibetan mastiff with us?"
They whispered amongst themselves, a mix of tears and lemony envy.
Even though their voices were soft, Xia Ningxing didn’t hear them.
But Lu Tingli’s sharp ears didn’t miss a sound, although he had no time to care about them at that moment.
Lu Tingli looked down at the girl’s head, not understanding. "Why would anything happen to me when I’m fine?"
It was then that Xia Ningxing remembered the purpose of her visit and hurriedly raised her head, her expression anxious, "It’s like this, Lu, I dreamed that there was going to be an earthquake in Tom City, and that you were in trouble. I was afraid it would come true!"
Xia Ningxing may not have caught what they were saying, but she could feel that there were people behind the door, so she deliberately spoke as if she was just afraid her dream would become a reality, and not, as she really sensed, that an earthquake was indeed coming.
She didn’t dare reveal too much—if someone caught on, they might take her away for research.
People are selfish; she had to consider her own safety first before thinking of anyone else’s.
If a person can’t even protect themselves, how can they protect others?
As soon as her words fell, everyone in the parlor, including those eavesdropping outside, were stunned.
So, this pretty sister-in-law turned out to be a fool. It was just a bad dream, and she took it seriously—it was laughable!
Just look at this clear and sunny weather, not a cloud in the sky, the sun shining brightly. Forget earthquakes, it wouldn’t even rain.
Even Lu Tingli was taken aback for a moment.
He thought back but couldn’t recall any earthquake occurring in Tom City that year.
However, just because there hadn’t been one that time didn’t mean there wouldn’t be one this time.
He believed her.
But...
Suddenly, Lu Tingli’s face changed, his large hand gripping her shoulder, his face tinged with sternness and anger, "You little fool! If you knew there might be an earthquake, why did you still come here? Aren’t you afraid of dying!?"
Xia Ningxing looked at him, dazed for a moment, but then she couldn’t help but laugh.
He was worried about her!
Happy!
The little person in her heart was swaying in joy!
This mutual concern... it was so good! So good indeed!
"It won’t," Xia Ningxing held his hand tightly, signaling him to be at ease. "Don’t worry, Lu, I dreamed that the earthquake would happen at two in the morning tomorrow. As long as we leave now, we’ll be fine."
Hearing this, Lu Tingli finally breathed a sigh of relief. "Don’t ever do that again."
