Chapter 259: Chapter 259: Suffering the Consequences_1

Seeing this, Wu Tong became even more certain. She walked up to her like a justice enforcer and lifted her face mask, "You still dare to say you don’t have water..."

The last word "pox" got stuck in her throat the moment she saw Ningxing’s smooth cheek.

Where is the chickenpox?

How come it’s gone!

Wu Tong’s eyes widened, looking incredulously at Ningxing’s soft, dewy cheeks.

Ningxing’s eyes seemed to smile but not smile, while her face took on the guise of an innocent, tear-stained flower, "Wu, you seem quite disappointed, were you hoping that I would come down with chickenpox?"

"I..." Of course, Wu Tong had been hoping, but now she dared not admit that in front of all her classmates, "No, how could I possibly wish for you to get chickenpox? It’s just that there has been a lot of chickenpox going around lately, and I saw you wearing a mask, so I thought... I thought you might have caught it too."

She explained hastily, her mind racing.

"Wu Tong, no matter what, it’s wrong for you to slander a classmate so casually. Go and apologize to Xia Ningxing right away!" The class monitor slammed the desk and stood up, seeking justice for Ningxing.

"I..." Wu Tong naturally did not want to apologize, but fearing she might upset someone she held dear, she had no choice but to swallow her grievances and anger, reluctantly apologizing.

"I’m sorry, Xia Ningxing."

She thought this would simply blow over, but Ningxing said, "I will not forgive you. I’ve heard that your brother got chickenpox and just yesterday you were wiping my desk with a towel from who knows where. Today you’re so sure I have chickenpox. I have every reason to suspect you are trying to harm me!"

"I didn’t, don’t talk nonsense!" Wu Tong’s voice shot up instantly, a nervous edge creeping in, "Do you have any evidence?!"

Evidence?

Ningxing truly didn’t have any.

It takes a month or so for a viral test, so she didn’t keep Wu Tong’s towel at the time.

However, even without evidence, her words planted seeds of doubt in everyone’s minds.

Wu Tong, looking at those classmates sizing her up with veiled glances, was infuriated.

She couldn’t figure out why Ningxing was exposed to the chickenpox virus but didn’t get sick.

Was it just not time yet?

It must be so!

Wu Tong convinced herself and kept waiting until the day of the high school exam, but Ningxing never got chickenpox.

Instead, while waiting at the exam venue, she suddenly felt an itch on someone else’s face.

She couldn’t help scratching.

Then, her hands and arms started itching unbearably.

One by one, chickenpox blisters popped up, as numerous as bamboo shoots after rain, all over her face and body.

"Ah! Wu Tong, what happened to you?" A classmate couldn’t help exclaiming in shock, staring at her face covered in chickenpox.

"It’s chickenpox, everyone stay away from her!"

Someone in the crowd shouted, and everyone quickly distanced themselves from her.

"What’s wrong with this person, showing up with chickenpox for the exam just to infect others on purpose!"

"Exactly, such a malevolent heart!"

The homeroom teacher rushed over and pulled Wu Tong aside, "Wu Tong, what’s wrong with you? Didn’t you say during the physical exam that you already had chickenpox? Why have you got it again?"

"Teacher, I have no idea what’s going on," Wu Tong said, while scratching the pox on her body.

Logically, having had chickenpox once before, she should not have gotten it a second time.

But who could have known, not only did she get it again, but it was exceptionally severe and unbearably itchy.
