Chapter 217: Chapter 217: The Younger Brother is Missing 2_1
The next day, as Xia Ningxing was leaving for school, she didn’t forget to pick up the little creature from the crib.
The baby smelled of milk and his skin was tender and soft, especially his grape-sized eyes, brimming with innocent light, pure as a blank canvas.
Clutching him dearly, Xia Ningxing kissed his cheek and instructed, "Tuanzi, be a good boy and wait for your sister to come home from school. Don’t cry, okay? I’ll buy you a toy when I get back."
The little creature seemed to understand her words, mumbling baby talk, and nodding his small head vigorously, as if to say: I promise I’ll do it.
It was only then that Xia Ningxing put him down and took her schoolbag to join Lu Tingli for school.
The little creature watched her longingly as she left. The nanny tried to pick him up to feed him, but he slapped her hand away, only reluctantly drawing back his gaze after Xia Ningxing was out of sight.
He really wanted to go to school with his sister, but he was too small, still unable to control even his peeing and pooing, something that would only trouble his sister if he went along.
Sigh, what a worry.
When Xia Ningxing got to the classroom, she found herself completely unsettled, not even realizing when she had picked up her book.
"What’s the matter with you, are you sick?" Lu Tingli, who had been reading, noticed her pale complexion and couldn’t help but put down his book. Furrowing his brow, he showed concern by reaching out to touch her forehead.
He then said, "It’s not hot, no fever."
"Lu, I’m not sick, just feeling that something’s off, but I can’t quite put my finger on what it is," Xia Ningxing shook her head.
Lu Tingli gently patted her head, "Perhaps you’re overthinking it."
This kid, she seemed much too mature for her age. Sometimes he even doubted whether she, like him, was reborn...
On a normal day, being comforted by such a big shot would have made Xia Ningxing overjoyed, but today, even after responding politely to him, she still felt wilted.
It was only when Xia Jiehao burst into the classroom, looking utterly distraught, that Xia Ningxing understood why she had been so anxious—it was because something terrible had happened.
"Bao’er, Bao’er, come with dad quickly!"
With trembling lips and bloodshot eyes, Xia Jiehao hurriedly grabbed her arm, struggling to hold back the tears from falling.
"What’s wrong, Dad?" At this point, Xia Ningxing still wasn’t sure what exactly had happened, but seeing his urgent expression, she quickly dropped her pen and followed him outside.
Seeing this, Lu Tingli frowned and decided to leave the ongoing class, following them out.
Outside, Xia Jiehao couldn’t hold back anymore and disclosed the dire situation, "Bao’er, your brother’s missing. I’ve reported it to the police, and had lots of people join the search, but after two hours, there’s no clue at all. Now we can only rely on you. Please go home and sleep, see if you can dream about who took him and where he might be."
His hand clutched Xia Ningxing’s tightly, like he was grasping a lifesaver.
He was really out of options, unable to find any leads, relying solely on Xia Ningxing’s special ability.
"My brother’s missing?" Xia Ningxing, who hadn’t imagined such a thing could happen, was immediately stunned, feeling a chill throughout her body as if cold water had been poured over her head in the dead of winter.
How could such an adorable, milk-scented little guy just vanish?
"What exactly happened?" Xia Ningxing raised her voice, disbelievingly gripping his arm so tightly that Xia Jiehao almost cried out.
