Chapter 214: Chapter 214 Dealing with Famine 3_1

"Fine, fine, it’s a great harvest, a great harvest, everything I said is nonsense, are you satisfied now?" Mrs. Cheng didn’t want to say much to them and continued to split the soybean pods in her hands.

She didn’t care about the blue skies and white clouds, she simply believed in what her Bao’er said.

As for them, she had already informed them because they were relatives and friends; if they chose not to believe, so be it, let them think what they will.

The setting sun slowly descended, and today’s sunset was exceptionally brilliant.

Many villagers stood outside, gazing at the distant glow of the sunset, with faces full of the joy of the upcoming harvest.

But just then, the beautiful glow was suddenly covered by dark clouds.

The sky instantly darkened.

The villagers couldn’t help but frown—

"Why has it gotten so dark, is there going to be a heavy downpour?"

"As long as it’s not hail, let it rain."

Hail could smash the rice to pieces in the field, but if it rained, they just had to delay the harvest by a few days and let it dry out in the sun after the rain stopped.

"No, no, look, that’s not a cloud at all!" A sharp-eyed villager finally sensed something was wrong and yelled as he pointed at the things rushing towards them.

An elder finally recognized it and immediately cried out, "Locusts! It’s locusts! We’re finished, completely finished!"

Upon hearing this, the villagers suddenly felt as if they had fallen into an ice cave, feeling a chill all over, with pairs of eyes staring blankly and desperately at the horizon, ceaselessly praying that the locusts would be blind and not see the crops in their fields.

But the reality was...

The swarm of locusts, like bandits passing through, completely stripped the crops in the fields.

"My crops!" Madam Yun couldn’t believe her eyes as they turned bloodshot; she ran towards the fields recklessly, attempting to protect her crops with her flesh and blood.

She wasn’t the only one; other villagers also ran over, trying to protect their own crops.

These weren’t just crops; they were the lifeblood of rural families!

"Have you all gone mad, not afraid the locusts will devour you?" Mrs. Cheng cried out in desperation.

Stopped by her shout, the previously crazed villagers immediately halted, sweating as they looked at the swarming locusts.

With so many locusts, they could very well consume a person alive.

And with their bodies being so small, even if they could defend the food, how much could they really save?

But Madam Yun did not listen and continued toward the fields to drive away the locusts, only to let out painful screams of agony once inside.

The locusts had surrounded her, gnawing at her as if she were food.

"Quick, save her! Quick, save her!"

Seeing this, the villagers hastily grabbed sticks and other tools to beat the locusts, and with great difficulty they dragged Madam Yun out.

But there was barely any good flesh left on her body; bloodied and missing chunks of flesh, she was in a pitiful state.

Even so, she kept mumbling, "My food, my food, my money... gone, all gone..."

The locusts passed by at an incredible speed; the whole ordeal lasted less than five minutes, leaving what were once ripe crops reduced to empty husks.

Just moments ago they had thought a great harvest and fortune were coming, but now they had nothing left.

The villagers immediately shed tears, half-kneeling on the ground, their cries reaching to the heavens.

Mrs. Cheng couldn’t help but let out a heavy sigh.
