Chapter 133: Chapter 133: Encountered Obstruction 3_1

Peach Blossom Village was half an hour’s drive from the town.

The whole way there, Mrs. Xia was nervously swallowing her saliva, occasionally taking out a small mirror to check her makeup and outfit, making sure everything was in order.

Xia Jiehao’s parents’ house was a two-story old-fashioned building with an exterior staircase, its walls mottled with peeling paint and covered with a type of greenery called ivy, though now in winter, the leaves had all withered.

There was a chicken coop in the courtyard, home to four or five chickens, both roosters and hens.

Beside the chicken coop, there was a cherry tree.

His parents were both at home.

After getting out of the car, Xia Jiehao, carrying gifts, led Mrs. Xia and Xia Ningxing inside.

Stepping into the unfamiliar yard and thinking of meeting her future in-laws, Mrs. Xia felt as if her heart was about to leap out of her chest.

Although it wasn’t her first visit, she couldn’t help but feel awkward and anxious.

"Mom and Dad, I’ve brought the daughter-in-law you’ve been longing for!"

As soon as they entered the courtyard, Xia Jiehao immediately raised his voice, his rebellious handsome face beaming with a sweet smile, like that of a young man who had just married his bride.

"Ah! Come here, come here!" Father and Mother of Xia Family had already heard about this, and they’d taken the day off work at the factory especially to wait at home for their arrival.

Inside the house, two lively old people were seated in the place of honor, smiling as they watched the newcomers.

There was also a woman in her twenties sitting to the side, arms crossed, staring at them. Perhaps it was Xia Ningxing’s imagination, but she felt this woman seemed unhappy to see her and her mother, as if they had somehow wronged her.

"Father, Mother, these are the gifts Lanzi specially picked out for you." Once inside the house, Xia Jiehao put down the gifts he was carrying.

"You being here is enough, bringing gifts is too polite!" Father and Mother of Xia Family smiled so wide they could hardly close their mouths, and quickly waved their hands.

Their thirty-five-year-old bachelor son had finally found a partner to marry—what parent wouldn’t be overjoyed?

"Sister is home too? When did you get back?" Xia Jiehao noticed the young woman sitting below and his eyes lit up with a smile.

"Isn’t it because I heard you were bringing someone home? I had to come back and see what kind of woman you found!" Xia Shufang’s voice had a sarcastic edge.

Xia Jiehao, a straightforward man, didn’t catch the undercurrent, thinking she truly just wanted to see his future wife. He turned to introduce Mrs. Xia and Xia Ningxing, "Lanzi, Bao’er, these are my parents; and the girl who was just talking to me is my younger sister, Shufang."

"Auntie, Uncle, you both are well, and Sister Shufang, hello." Mrs. Xia’s voice was as tiny as a mosquito’s, her fingers nearly twisting her skirt to shreds, face blushing furiously.

"Hello, hello." Father and Mother of Xia Family, meeting their prospective daughter-in-law for the first time, were also somewhat reserved, but mostly pleased from the bottom of their hearts.

Xia Ningxing lifted her smiling face, her childlike voice chiming in with greetings as well, "Grandpa Xia, Old Mrs. Xia, Aunt Xia, hello."

"Good, good, good." Father and Mother of Xia Family smiled again. They had long known from their son that Lin Lan was a divorced woman with a child, but they didn’t mind such details. As long as their son was happy, it was enough for them.

And for someone of their son’s age, finding someone willing to remarry was already quite good.

"What good is it!"

Just then, a snide, cold snort shattered the joy.

Xia Shufang stood with her arms crossed, her pretty face cold, looking down her nose at Mrs. Xia and Xia Ningxing with disdain and scorn, as if they were trash.
