Chapter 118: Chapter 118 Like Ah_1
Seeing this, Mrs. Xia couldn’t help but purse her lips, raised her hand to brush away the little snowflakes in her daughter’s hair, then asked, "Does Bao’er really like Uncle Xia?"
"Like him! Yes, I do!"
Xia Ningxing replied without hesitation.
As long as they’re big shots, she liked all of them!
(Lu Tingli: Hmph, you gold-digger!)
"It would be great if Uncle Xia could be my dad. Having a dad like that must be really cool," Xia Ningxing sat on the threshold with her chin propped in her hands, her dark eyes filled with longing as she spoke childishly.
Mrs. Xia lowered her eyes and fell silent, slightly lost in thought.
"So, does Bao’er want Mommy to marry your Uncle Xia?"
"Yes!" Xia Ningxing nodded without any hesitation, followed by a sweet, warm smile. "But I won’t force Mommy. I respect Mommy’s wishes."
Indeed, she would love to have the big shot as her stepdad and could give him all sorts of assistance, but whether they would ultimately end up together or not was up to them.
Love, unlike other things, can only cause pain to both parties if forced.
Her wishes?
Mrs. Xia smiled wryly, momentarily unsure of her own feelings.
She really needed to think about it seriously.
Xia Ningxing caught a glimpse of her from the corner of her eye and couldn’t help but curve her lips.
It seemed she had to keep up her efforts!
Before long, the tenth day arrived.
Today was the day they had agreed to buy a house in the Capital City.
Early in the morning, Mrs. Xia heard knocking at the door. Upon opening it and seeing Xia Jiehao, she frowned and glanced at her watch. "It’s only six-thirty. Why are you here already? Weren’t we supposed to meet at eight?"
"I missed you," Xia Jiehao said, staring at her with puppy-dog eyes.
"..."
Like an electric shock, Mrs. Xia froze, her eyes wide and her beautiful face instinctively blushed.
This rascal!
She had thought he’d changed over the years, yet he was still as slick as ever with his words.
"I can’t be bothered with you," said Mrs. Xia, embarrassed, fiddling with the doorknob and giving him a sidelong glance. Seeing his affectionate look, she quickly lowered her head, not daring to meet his gaze. "Um, it’s not appropriate for me to invite you in since I’m a divorced woman. Just wait here for a moment. I’ll go and get Bao’er up."
"Okay."
Xia Jiehao obediently nodded, his tall figure leaning against the car, giving each other some space.
Mrs. Xia breathed a sigh of relief, fearing he might harass her relentless like he did back when he pursued her, intruding into her life like a stalker.
"Oh, Lanzi," he called out just as she was about to turn around, handing her a bag of breakfast, "Here, take this."
He didn’t know what they liked to eat, so he brought everything – youtiao (fried dough sticks), buns, fried dumplings, milk, bread.
Mrs. Xia, looking at the rich breakfast, could tell his thoughtfulness. She trembled slightly, instinctively refused, not wanting to owe anyone: "I won’t eat it, you have it."
"I’ve already eaten," Xia Jiehao advanced a step, took her hand, and stuffed the breakfast into her hands, "Take it quickly, if you don’t eat it, Bao’er has to eat."
"Alright, but I can’t just take your things for nothing. Here, take this money." It was only when Bao’er was involved that Mrs. Xia’s attitude softened, and then she pulled out a ten-dollar bill, stuffed it into his hand, and finally felt justified taking the breakfast.
Xia Jiehao looked at the money in his hand and sighed helplessly.
After more than a decade, they had indeed become somewhat estranged.
But that’s alright, for sincerity can melt even the hardest stone!
