Chapter 106: Chapter 106 Sprinkle Bread_1
"You old hag, what are you blabbing on about? Had a mouthful of shit this morning?"
He shoved her, fury flashing coldly in his thick brows and dark pupils.
Back when his sister, Ningxing, got divorced, she didn’t tell their family to spare them the worry, so they couldn’t stand up for her. But he could no longer bear it.
Did they think her family was dead?
Old Mrs. Xia always bullied the weak and feared the strong. Faced with the towering Uncle Lin, she immediately became timid and stuttered without being able to fart a single word.
The village chief had also arrived by now, and seeing the quarrel broke out again, he became so angry he nearly had a brain hemorrhage, "Old Mrs. Xia, on such a joyful day, what are you causing trouble for? If you don’t want to scramble for bread, then get the hell out of here immediately!"
"I... I won’t go anywhere..." Old Mrs. Xia’s face turned red, and she wished she could sink into the ground.
She’d like to leave, sure, but not without grabbing the bread. Missing out on such a deal would be unthinkable, even if a knife were held to her throat.
Crackling and popping!
At twelve noon, the sound of firecrackers erupted once more.
At the same time, bricklayers standing on the roof began to toss bread down to the people below.
"They’re throwing them, they’re throwing them!"
"Throw them towards the north side!"
"Throw them north my arse, throw them south, mate!"
"To the west, there are so many people here in the west!"
"Ouch, screw you, I grabbed this bread first!"
As the bread rained down, the scene below was lively, with everyone scrambling to get a piece.
Ningxing and her brother didn’t join in; they were still standing on the second floor watching the excitement.
During the bread scramble, Old Mrs. Xia and Mrs. Xia grabbed the most.
Their arms, hands, and bags were filled with bread; they even had two or three pieces stuffed in their mouths.
Her brothers, upon seeing this, couldn’t help but frown and grind their teeth, quite annoyed, "Really wish they hadn’t grabbed the bread."
Causing trouble on the big day of someone’s house-raising, how could they have the face to scramble for bread!
"Let it go, it’s not worth getting upset over them on a day of celebration," Mrs. Xia’s complexion wasn’t great either, but even she couldn’t stoop to the level of snatching the bread back.
After the bread was scattered, it was time for the banquet.
Old Mrs. Xia and Xia Aiguo’s wife walked home with a load of bread as their families had fallen out, so they couldn’t possibly eat at the banquet.
Having taken so much bread for nothing, they were content and overjoyed.
The bread used for the new house in Ningxing’s family was the best quality and even had fillings inside.
Old Mrs. Xia broke open a piece and, upon seeing the cream inside, couldn’t help but blurt out an acerbic tone, "That wench Lin Lan, squandering my son’s hard-earned money. It’s just a house-raising, was there any need to buy such fine bread!"
"Exactly! She doesn’t know how to live frugally at all, unlike mother, who is the epitome of thriftiness in the whole village!"
Xia Aiguo’s wife eagerly echoed, looking up at the old woman before her with an ingratiating face, thinking about getting a few more pieces of bread later.
They had clearly split up the household, yet the old lady stubbornly held on to the reins of power. Every time there was any good food or grains at home, they were all locked away by this old immortal.
"Hmph!" Old Mrs. Xia, who had lived for more than half a century, knew exactly what she was up to, glancing at the bread she held and lightly snorting, "Don’t worry, you’ll get two each later."
Just two?
Xia Aiguo’s wife looked at the nearly fifty bread rolls and felt sour; she inwardly cursed the old woman for being so stingy.
But, fearing that she’d get nothing if she talked back, she had to put on her most insincere smile and fondled the old woman’s arm, "Thank you, mother, you’re so kind!"
No one dislikes being flattered; Old Mrs. Xia smiled broadly, revealing her teeth.
