Chapter 447 - 447 442 Unlucky Times Ahead
Chapter 447: Chapter 442 Unlucky Times Ahead Chapter 447: Chapter 442 Unlucky Times Ahead Mu Jiawen seemed amused as she spoke, “Brother, it looks like your laboratory needs some straightening out.”
Yu Yue snorted coldly, “It’s just that the third brother and Fei Shen have been too busy lately. It’s been less than a year since they returned from overseas, and there are still some foreign equipment they want to bring back, so they’ve neglected these matters temporarily. We were careless too, assuming Ceng Tianbao was reliable since he was recommended by the deputy dean of the Physics Institute. Who knew he’d be so bold.”
As he spoke, Yu Yue looked up at Mu Jun and said, “I’m sorry, but the investigation is clear, and this has nothing to do with you. You can continue to stay.”
But where to place him if he stayed?
Previously, he was an assistant for Pan Jian and others, but now he certainly couldn’t go back there. So, whom should he be an assistant to?
As he pondered this question, there suddenly came a crunching sound from nearby, and when they looked in the direction of the sound, they found Sergei, who had escorted Mu Jiawen and the others here, had not left; instead, he was sneakily eating snacks in a corner of Yu Yue’s office by the cabinet.
Noticing them looking, he raised a smiling face and held up a bag of rice crisps, saying, “Good stuff!”
These were specially bought by Yu Zexiao from a handmade snack shop, with rice crisps and egg cakes among them. He would stock some every week for Yu Yue to take to the office, in case they missed meals during experiments and needed something to fill their stomachs.
Seeing Sergei, Yu Yue’s assistant had a brainwave and said to Yu Yue, “Brother Yue, doesn’t Sergei happen to need an assistant? Why not… ”
He said this while glancing at Mu Jun. This was the darling of the Yu Family brought by Yu Ci. By the looks of it, he must be a friend, and since he was Mu Jiawen’s friend, he was one of their own. When looking for an assistant for Sergei, they had to pick someone from among their own people.
Previously, this task was assigned to Ceng Tianbao, but the assistant he found was not to Sergei’s liking and was sent away. Until now, Sergei still hadn’t found a replacement, which meant he often came looking for him.
Hearing this, Yu Yue was intrigued and asked Mu Jun, “How’s your English?”
Being able to enter Beijing University as a graduate student must mean he was not bad, but that was written exams. Oral proficiency was also needed. Only if communication was smooth could he be someone’s assistant.
Mu Jun was still excited that Yu Yue had allowed him to stay and hadn’t had the chance to calm down when another pie fell from the sky, leaving him so dumbfounded he didn’t know how to respond.
Seeing this, Mu Miao beside him felt anxious and quickly answered for her brother, “Not bad. A couple of years ago, our dad’s factory established an export department. They asked my brother to help entertain European clients, and he spoke very fluently.”
“As long as communication is possible, then Mu Jun will be Sergei’s assistant from now on. Sergei…”
“No problem, this ba-ba…”
Sergei struggled to speak Chinese, but he had no problem understanding it. He was completely fine with Yu Yue’s idea of assigning Mu Jun as his assistant.
First, he didn’t have high requirements for an assistant. The reason the previous one was sent away was that she was a girl who took a liking to him, but he had no interest in her. With the girl’s feelings involved, her help during the experiments was not very attentive.
Can you do experiments while emotional?
So, without a second thought, he dismissed her.
Secondly, since Mu Jun was brought by Yu Ci’s sister, what else was there to say? Stay!
However, before agreeing, he still held up his bag of rice crisps, and Yu Yue waved his hand, “It’s all yours, all yours. Take it.”
Sergei was delighted. He hugged the rice crisps before patting Mu Jun on the shoulder, “Follow me.”
Mu Jun stood and followed Sergei out, only remembering at the door that he hadn’t greeted Mu Jiawen, so he hurriedly turned back, “Xiaosi…”
Mu Jiawen waved her hand, “Go on, do well. Don’t worry about your advisor; let my brother give him a call.”
Mu Jun did not know what to say, nodded deeply, and turned to leave with Sergei.
Yu Yue, who had overheard Mu Jun’s use of “Xiaosi,” raised an eyebrow; he had felt it odd that morning, such a coincidence that the man shared a surname with his great-aunt.
He looked toward Mu Jiawen and smiled, “They are related to the great-aunt…”
“Yes, they’re the children of my mother’s cousin, but they didn’t approach my mom. In fact, it was only after unexpectedly running into me last night that they tried asking for help. If they had gone to my mom, do you think Third Brother would have let Mu Jun put up with this indignity after finding out he was here?”
When Mu Jiawen went home for lunch, she mentioned this cousin to Mu Chenyan. She recalled that as children, her cousins and siblings got along well, but relationships soured after she and her siblings, such as Mu Shaotang, had a falling out, leading to little contact with these cousins as well.
However, the affection was still there, and Mu Chenyan asked her to help if she could. This cousin was known for his straightforward temperament, much like her second uncle—a man uninterested in relying on others, meticulous in his ways, the least conspicuous member of the Mu family.
Despite that, she had heard that both of his twin children were quite clever, though it was a surprise that one of them had ended up in Yu Ci’s lab.
When Mu Miao heard Mu Jiawen’s introduction, she was incredibly flattered. She had not expected Xiaozi to openly acknowledge their relationship outside; she thought merely helping her brother was already the greatest kindness she could offer, but to her surprise…
Yu Yue’s assistant Xiaozhu was beside himself with shock upon hearing this. He had personally investigated Mu Jun’s case, from his admission, to the tasks he was assigned after joining, to the numerous instances of unfair treatment he’d suffered, including ostracism and sabotage from Pan Jian and others. While such things might be common for newcomers in any lab, the problem was that this newcomer was the director’s cousin!
The secrecy of this close relationship—Xiaozhu had to admit he respected Mu Jun for it.
In contrast, Pan Jian, just a second-removed cousin of an assistant professor like Ceng Tianbao, strutted around with such arrogance. Who was he to shift blame for his experiments to scapegoats? What a joke.
With Mu Jun’s affairs settled, Mu Jiawen did not linger and soon left with Mu Miao.
Xiaozhu saw them out and was on his way back when Xue Yan stopped him at the reception.
She asked with a slightly ingratiating smile, “Brother Zhu, the young lady who just left, what’s her relationship with Professor Yu?”
Xiaozhu, expressionless, pulled his arm back and said coolly, “What relationship? Siblings, of course. She is Beijing University Professor’s own sister, and a cousin to the second professor, get it?”
His own sister?
Xue Yan’s face turned pale in an instant.
Xiaozhu looked at her meaningfully, “Xiao Xue, be more savvy in the future. You should know that out of all things, Professor Yu from Beijing University detests clique formation the most. If you want to keep working here, just focus on your job and stay out of other people’s business. Oh, and Mu Jun has been assigned to be Sergei’s assistant, don’t forget to process his paperwork.”
Having said that, Xiaozhu left.
No sooner had he walked away, than Ceng Tianbao entered the lab, heading straight to the reception.
Upon seeing Xiaozhu talking to Xue Yan and then departing, Pan Jian also hurried over to find out what was going on.
Seeing Ceng Tianbao and Pan Jian standing before her and remembering Xiaozhu’s warning, Xue Yan had a feeling that things weren’t going to end well for these two…
