Rebirth: He Decides to Lie Flat -
Chapter 410 - 410 405 Reasonable Explanation
Chapter 410: Chapter 405 Reasonable Explanation Chapter 410: Chapter 405 Reasonable Explanation Many people from the Luo Family visited today; last night, upon hearing that Luo Xiao had given birth to a boy, Luo’s father was so delighted that he immediately notified his parents, then informed his eldest brother, third brother, fourth brother, and youngest sister.
Although they are intellectuals and don’t harbor strong gender biases, it’s undeniable that among the siblings, only his household had a daughter while the others all had both sons and daughters. To say they weren’t envious would be a lie.
But now, he had a grandson.
Having a grandson meant no less than having a son.
However, Luo’s father’s excitement was not shared by other members of the Luo Family; they believed he was showing off. After all, the status of the Yu Family was there for all to see and not something their ordinary families could compare with.
Especially since Luo Xiao’s eldest uncle and third and fourth uncles had always considered themselves superior to Luo’s father with better jobs and higher salaries. Except for not having a child who had attended Beijing University, they excelled in every other aspect compared to his family.
Now, to be surpassed by someone they deemed inferior, and because of his children at that, was a bitter pill to swallow, even though they were brothers.
Perhaps among those whom Luo’s father notified in their family, only the old master and the old lady were genuinely happy for him. They even instructed their children to visit Luo Xiao in Beijing the next day.
Since they were too old, they didn’t join the gathering to avoid the tumult of travel.
So, despite feeling uncomfortable, they still got up early the next day, borrowed two cars, and came over together.
People are sometimes contradictory; although they felt sour-hearted, they couldn’t help but crowd forward.
If you’re going to crowd in, fine, but don’t you know what’s appropriate to say in public, in front of so many people, at such an old age?
Now look what you’ve done, you’ve upset someone, right?
As Luo Xiao’s mother’s words ended, the atmosphere that had just eased became tense once again.
Luo’s third aunt’s face looked terrible; she opened her mouth to say something, but before she could speak, she was silenced by a stern look from Luo’s third uncle, and whatever she wanted to say was choked back.
Luo Xiao had a decent relationship with her young aunt. Smiling, she tried to mediate, “Second sister-in-law, if you want to help look after Xiao Xiao’s child, just come over. We have our parents there, so don’t worry.”
Worry? With so many children around, who needed her worry?
Besides, it used to be Luo Xiao’s mother who often helped the most. Just last year, when the old lady was hospitalized with vascular heart disease, Luo Xiao’s mother attended her for half a month without anyone offering to take over.
What now? Did her prolonged care suddenly become her sole responsibility?
Her family didn’t have children, while the other families did. During holidays and birthdays, the old man and old lady never skimped on giving red envelopes, handing them out one by one. When it came to caring, they’d shy away, yet when taking red envelopes, they reached out so readily, didn’t they?
She bore no grudge against the elderly couple, after all, before Luo Xiao got married, there were no children in the household; even if they wanted to give, they had no justification.
Besides, she had never coveted those red envelopes. The daughter she raised was a doctoral student from Beijing University; could any of their other children compare?
Luo Xiao’s mother could be considered broad-minded. She was never negligent in her treatment of the elderly, and she certainly carried out her responsibilities, even if it meant occasionally being at a disadvantage. They were all trivial matters; was there a need to argue?
But she had not expected her concessions to lead to their such presumptuousness.
Today, they came to visit her eldest grandson on a joyous occasion. Her son-in-law and the mother-in-law were present… so were they all just shamelessly overstepping?
Luo’s father’s face didn’t look good either. Although it was a matter between the women, the silence of his brothers also implied their stance.
Despite having always cared for them and hurrying to help whenever there was trouble in their families, it turned out they really didn’t take him seriously.
Luo’s father felt a chill in his heart; he sat in the chair, not uttering a word, not wanting to speak at all.
Yu Feng leaned against the wall by the doorway, watching the scene with indifference. After all, didn’t every family have its issues?
But he was anxious for his mother to go home. He hadn’t even had breakfast and was famished, so could someone please take a hint? His mother-in-law could keep an eye on the little one, allowing him and his mother to go home and rest.
Yu Feng lazily yawned, which Luo Xiao happened to catch sight of.
She quickly said to Mu Chenyan, “Mom, you should go home and rest. My mom and the auntie are here; it’s all right.”
Luo’s mother was taken aback, recalling that Mu Chenyan had been up all night and that her second son was still awaiting her return home. If it weren’t for their arrival, she would have gone back to rest by now.
So, she and Luo Xiao hurriedly urged Mu Chenyan to go back first, to rest up before coming over again.
As she left the hospital, Mu Chenyan massaged her weary brow.
Yu Feng drove and said to her, “With Big Brother and the baby nurse there, and now Sister-in-law’s mother has come too, you don’t need to exhaust yourself. Please, rest well at home.”
“You can’t say that,” Mu Chenyan glanced at him and replied, “No matter how many other people are there, no one can ever replace me. It’s the fate of being a mother-in-law.”
Yu Feng wanted to say it wasn’t necessary; they were all family, so why wouldn’t she understand? And if she truly didn’t get it, let Big Brother deal with it.
But before he could speak, he heard his mother sigh, “Ah, if I only had Xiaosi as a daughter, that would be so much easier, so much less to worry about.”
Yu Feng kept his mouth shut.
Upon returning home, Mu Jiawen hurriedly served the still-warm breakfast from the pot and said to her mother, “I’ll go run the bathwater. After eating, take a bath before you sleep.”
Mu Chenyan smiled as she watched her daughter bustling about. She then said to Yu Feng, “You were just disagreeing with what I said, but look, which of you three other than your sister has ever been so attentive?”
Munching on a fried dough stick, Yu Feng noncommittally grunted in response, not daring to argue with his mother. After all, arguing was futile, wasn’t it?
But Mu Chenyan clearly wasn’t about to let him off the hook and immediately followed up with, “What is your relationship with Doctor Tong from the obstetrics and gynecology department at the hospital?”
Hearing this, Yu Feng’s hand holding the chopsticks paused, but he quickly regained composure and answered, “What kind of relationship could it be? Just a colleague.”
“Just a colleague? Really?” Mu Chenyan didn’t believe it in the slightest, “Your sister-in-law just gave birth, and that doctor was running around helping out. This morning, she even brought two packs of diapers and two cans of imported baby formula. If it were just a colleague, would she care for our family like this?”
Yu Feng offered a reasonable explanation, “Their department has a pile of diapers and formula; it’s quite common for her to take some to give to a colleague’s family. Besides, it’s not costing her anything, so it’s hardly any bother.”
Mu Chenyan snorted, “So what you’re saying is, she’s using her position for personal benefit?”
Yu Feng: …
He started to play dumb, “The fried dough sticks Jiang Yan made today are pretty good. If he’s back early tonight, what about asking him to fry some sugar cakes?”
“Not interested. I think Doctor Tong is a good person, and I’m satisfied with her, but if you’re not interested in her, tell her early on, so as not to waste her time and energy, you understand?”
“Mom…”
“Alright, enough, I won’t bother you. But I have to warn you: don’t go causing trouble outside,” she admonished.
