Rebirth: He Decides to Lie Flat -
Chapter 222 - 222 219 Coming to the Door
Chapter 222: Chapter 219: Coming to the Door Chapter 222: Chapter 219: Coming to the Door “Miss Yu Xin, please come this way!”
“Who are you?” Yu Xin looked at him warily and stood still.
The man appeared to be in his thirties, of average height, neither fat nor thin, and was wearing a pair of gold-rimmed glasses that made him seem gentle and refined.
He was the one who had bailed her out, but she didn’t recognize him!
In response to her attitude, the man just smiled and didn’t mind, “To be precise, I am somewhat acquainted with Miss Yu Xin. Fifteen years ago, on the street outside the siheyuan, Miss Yu Xin gave me a hundred yuan.”
Yu Xin’s expression suddenly changed!
“Hmm, remember now? That’s good, then let’s go.”
It was precisely because she remembered that she couldn’t go with him.
But it seemed as though he had already anticipated her thoughts, “You are now all alone in the world. Aside from cooperating with us, do you have any other options?”
Cooperate?
Yu Xin shook her head, “I have nothing to cooperate with you on, sorry, I have to leave first.”
To cooperate with them would be like seeking a tiger’s skin!
Yu Xin believed that no matter her situation, it had not yet come to that.
She gave the man a long look and turned to walk away.
“The sister you abandoned has come back, and upon her return, you were driven out of the Yu Family. Don’t you wonder how she’s living now?”
Yu Xin’s move to turn around paused, and the man gave a light smile, “Ever since she came back, you were first found out by her second brother to be not your father’s biological child, then you were driven out of the Yu Family, later forced by her third brother to go abroad… and now you’re penniless, all thanks to her. So, don’t you have any thoughts, any desire to see her again?”
At Yu Xin’s ears, uncontrollably came those childlike voices she had heard countless times–
“90+120=210, sister, you don’t know such a simple problem?”
“Sister, the next line is ‘The sun sets in the west, leaving the heartbroken at the end of the earth’. How could you forget again?”
“Sister, you got this problem wrong again.”
“Sister…”
It might be hard to believe, but her eight-year-old self, whether it was doing arithmetic or reciting poetry, couldn’t outdo the three-year-old Xiaosi.
Those seemingly innocent words often led to adults looking at her in a different light.
That’s why even after so many years, she never regretted abandoning Xiaosi.
Unfortunately…
She could still be found!
Yu Xin turned to look at the man with the glasses and said coldly, “What’s the use of seeing her? With my current situation, what can I possibly do to her?”
“There’s nothing you can do, but we can.”
Seeing her hesitation, the man with the glasses gestured towards a black sedan parked by the road, “How about we talk in the car? What do you say?”
After hesitating for three seconds, Yu Xin finally gritted her teeth and followed the man into the car.
….
Winter evenings arrive early, and though the afternoon classes ended at just half-past five, the outside was already darkening.
“Liang Yujun and her group seem to have a lab class today. Are you meeting up with them in the canteen, or are we going to find them?”
Xue Weisong was gathering his books while speaking to Mu Jiawen, “Shall I walk you over? Or would you like to join us to the canteen?”
Mu Jiawen turned her head and glanced outside, where the sky was growing dark, but since it wasn’t time yet, the streetlights weren’t on, making it indeed look a bit black.
She nodded, “Then let’s go there on the way. We’ve agreed to meet at the third canteen, what about you guys?”
“We’re fine with anything, so let’s just go to the third canteen today.”
When Shen Mengfei arrived, the three of them went downstairs together.
“Song… uh, Mu Jiawen, could you help me go over the steps for solving the last question today?” Shen Mengfei asked with an embarrassed smile, “I didn’t understand it during the class.”
“Which part don’t you understand?”
“Starting from the second step…”
“Xiaosi!”
Held up by Shen Mengfei’s question about the problem, Mu Jiawen was walking between the two of them, explaining as they walked, interspersed with Shen Mengfei’s inquiries. Just as they reached the bottom of the building, suddenly a woman’s voice rang out not far from them.
Mu Jiawen stopped speaking and turned her head to look towards the side of the road.
The light was dim, the patchy lights spilling through the windows of the teaching building barely illuminated the face of the woman standing outside, dressed in black.
Despite fifteen years of separation and being only three years old when they parted, Mu Jiawen recognized Yu Xin at first glance.
Her hands clutched into fists inside her pockets, her body tensed up, and the gentle expression on her face while she was explaining the problem had disappeared, replaced by a layer of ice that had formed over her seemingly cool demeanor.
“Long time no see, have you missed your sister?”
Sister?
Xue Weisong felt a sudden shift in Mu Jiawen’s aura, even Shen Mengfei could feel the chilling intent that emanated from those pitch-black eyes, freezing him. Is this how someone normally reacts to their sister?
Is this really her sister?
“Mu Jiawen…”
Seeing her standing stiffly without moving, Xue Weisong called out to her, a bit concerned.
The woman opposite laughed when she heard her name called, “Mu Jiawen? You’ve taken up the surname Mu now? Ha, what was the great-aunt thinking? Having you change your name to Mu and not Yu, does the Yu Family have any relation to you anymore?”
“Of course, the Yu Family doesn’t have much to do with me now. How about it? After so many years, don’t you want to catch up with your sister?”
Mu Jiawen remained silent, her eyes, having recognized the person across from her, hadn’t wavered since.
Yu Xin felt somewhat uneasy under her piercing gaze, but she maintained a calm exterior. Those people had agreed with her that as long as she managed to take this girl out of school alone, she wouldn’t have to worry about the rest.
Just like fifteen years ago, when she abandoned her in a place swarming with beggars.
She hoped that this time those people wouldn’t let her down again and not let the girl escape this time.
“Fellow students, I want to have a word with my little sister alone. You two can go ahead.”
Seeing that Mu Jiawen was still not speaking, Yu Xin grew a little impatient and wanted to dismiss the two male students by her side so she could find a way to take Mu Jiawen away.
But Xue Weisong and Shen Mengfei didn’t budge.
What a joke, they didn’t know her, why should they listen to her?
Yet they were both very worried about Mu Jiawen’s condition.
“Just like when you were a child, you’re very likeable, aren’t you, Xiaosi.” Yu Xin tried to provoke her by pressing her buttons, “But Xiaosi, you used to talk so much when you were little, how come you’ve become mute now? Is it because of the abuse you suffered for over a decade after being abducted? Or… haha, no wonder you went to see a psychologist. So it seems your mind is… oh, I’m sorry, I let it slip by mistake. We shouldn’t stand here chatting, after all, some things shouldn’t be known by your classmates, right? Why not come out with me? Let’s find a quiet place outside to catch up properly, how about that?”
Abducted?
Xue Weisong and Shen Mengfei looked at Mu Jiawen in shock, finding it hard to imagine that someone as excellent and intelligent as her had been abducted!
And for more than a decade?
