Chapter 191 - 191 188 My Girlfriend is Sick
Chapter 191: Chapter 188 My Girlfriend is Sick Chapter 191: Chapter 188 My Girlfriend is Sick Jiang Yan returned to the dormitory to find Tian Xiaohui eating instant noodles.
Dai Lei had also just come back from the library, and he picked up a book titled ‘Calculating Whiz’ from the desk and placed it on Jiang Yan’s table, “This is middle school math. Give it to ‘Second Child’ tomorrow and tell him to do two pages every day.”
Entrusting ‘Second Child’ to Dai Lei was indeed the right decision. Without any hesitation, Dai Lei devised a detailed, well-structured plan based on his elementary level foundation. Although they had agreed on tutoring twice a week, Dai Lei almost wanted to come every other day to check the homework, correct mistakes, and provide additional guidance.
But he only charged for the agreed-upon two times a week.
Jiang Yan nodded, then turned to look at Tian Xiaohui with a sneer, “Ran out of money again?”
Since both Jiang Yan and Dai Lei hadn’t eaten at the school today, Tian Xiaohui had no choice but to resort to instant noodles, and even those were taken from Dai Lei’s cupboard.
When Jiang Yan asked, Tian Xiaohui didn’t dare to make a sound.
Dai Lei was almost speechless with frustration, nothing seemed to get through to him, “How on earth did you manage to get into Beijing University with that brain of yours?”
He had just received this month’s living allowance and had already been scammed by “Poison Perfume.” They hadn’t been chatting online for long, yet he had sent money twice already.
Liu Wenhui happened to come in at that moment. He often went out at night and usually didn’t spend much time in the dorm apart from sleeping, so he hadn’t heard about Tian Xiaohui’s online romance.
After hearing Dai Lei’s words, he found it quite incredible and looked at Tian Xiaohui with a big laugh, “Haha, you’re actually in an online relationship? Do you know the kind of monsters and demons that lurk on the internet? You think you’re chatting with a girl, but what if it’s a big burly man with a full beard?”
“Impossible, we’ve spoken on the phone. Can’t I tell the difference between a man and a woman’s voice?”
“And what if she’s fat? Or covered in acne?”
“Absolutely not!” Tian Xiaohui asserted confidently, “I’ve received…”
He stopped mid-sentence and shut his mouth. All three understood immediately: he had received photos.
“Where is it? Let me have a look.”
Tian Xiaohui blocked the drawer, looking at Liu Wenhui nervously, “No way!”
The towering figure of Liu Wenhui, a giant at 180 cm, picked up the 175 cm slender bookworm Tian Xiaohui as if he were lifting a chicken and moved him aside.
Liu Wenhui opened Tian Xiaohui’s drawer and found a pile of letters. He rifled through them impatiently, “Which one is it?”
It was clear he wouldn’t rest until he saw it.
Tian Xiaohui cast a pleading look at Jiang Yan, but Jiang Yan just glanced at him indifferently and turned to go to the washroom to wash up with his basin.
Dai Lei didn’t want the fool to sink further, so he stepped up to help Liu Wenhui sort through the letters, and then he pulled out a photo… of a young girl wearing just a tank top, her chest ample, yet with a student’s haircut, a round face with dimples.
Liu Wenhui couldn’t help but click his tongue, “Normally, I see you all prim and proper, but this is the type you like, huh? Tian Xiaohui, let’s make a bet. I bet this photo isn’t of the same person you’ve been chatting with. You believe that?”
Tian Xiaohui glared at him and snatched the photo back, with finality, “Don’t believe it!”
“Don’t believe it?” Liu Wenhui laughed, “You’re quite the hopeless romantic, aren’t you? Alright, I’m in a good mood today and will teach the fool a lesson. Give me her QQ number; I’ll chat with her, and you’ll have full access to the conversation. How about that?”
Before Tian Xiaohui could speak, Dai Lei said, “Aren’t you quite confident in your love? It’s the perfect test to see if it’s unbreakable. If that girl doesn’t waver under Liu Wenhui’s sweet talk, I’ll cover you whenever you don’t have money for food in the future.”
Tian Xiaohui hesitated, as days without money for food have indeed been hard.
In the end, he gritted his teeth and gave the number to Liu Wenhui.
“Poison Perfume? I’ll see for myself what kind of poison she is,” Liu Wenhui said.
…
A week flew by, and in the blink of an eye, it was Friday.
After the first class in the afternoon ended, Jiang Yan was sitting in the first row helping the professor sort through the submitted homework, when Weng Minhong came over and sat beside him.
Jiang Yan turned to glance at her, then quickly turned his head back and continued his task while asking indifferently, “What’s up?”
Ever since Song Jiawen expressed her discontent, Jiang Yan, who had always kept a certain distance from girls, now avoided Weng Minhong even more, hardly interacting unless necessary and trying his best not to dine in the same cafeteria as her.
Weng Minhong was a girl; how could she not notice?
She inwardly gave a wry smile but at the same time became more resolute in her dieting.
Guys really are visual creatures; they all like pretty things.
“Go ask Liu Wenhui what he’s up to?”
Without lifting his head, Jiang Yan replied, “Just tell me what he did.”
Weng Minhong was full of indignation, “Ever since he took Qi Lihong to the hospital that last time, he’s been asking her out every day, buying her clothes and taking her out for meals. What’s he trying to do? Doesn’t he know Qi Lihong isn’t someone he can mess with at his whim? With so many girls in the school, can’t he chase someone else? Given Qi Lihong’s personality and family background… Don’t blame me for alarming you, but his behavior could lead to serious trouble.”
Surprised, Jiang Yan stopped what he was doing and turned to look at her, “Are you saying Liu Wenhui is pursuing Qi Lihong?”
Weng Minhong frowned, “You’re dormmates, haven’t you noticed anything at all?”
We’re all grown men for crying out loud, why would I pay attention to his business?
He waved his hand, not very concerned, “Perhaps it’s not what you think. I’ll ask him tonight.”
Seeing that he didn’t seem too serious about it, Weng Minhong said unhappily, “Why wait until tonight? After school, call him to have dinner together, I want to ask him in person.”
Jiang Yan was about to say something when his phone in his pocket buzzed twice, signaling an incoming text message.
He pulled out the pink, shiny flip phone and flipped it open to read the message as if nobody else was around.
Weng Minhong looked at the phone speechlessly. That week, their entire class had witnessed their burly class monitor using a girly, cute phone without any sense of embarrassment.
It felt out of place, discordant, yet he was nonchalant and acted as if it were perfectly normal.
Now that they had seen it a number of times, everyone had grown used to it.
“I can’t after school, I have something to do.”
After reading the message, Jiang Yan patiently sent back two replies. Weng Minhong noticed that the lines of his profile softened while he texted. One didn’t need to guess who he was replying to.
It was indeed Song Jiawen.
This morning, she woke up with a stuffy nose but didn’t pay much attention to it. However, now she started to have a headache and felt cold all over with aching limbs.
It seemed that ever since her fever last summer vacation, her immunity had weakened a bit. She didn’t show signs of frailty usually, but temperature changes would result in a stuffy nose or a sore throat. Sometimes drinking more water could suppress it, but this time it clearly didn’t work.
Jiang Yan planned to postpone his current tasks if necessary, as he wanted to take her for a run in the evening to improve her physical condition.
“Jiang Yan…”
Weng Minhong wanted to push further, to ask if the matter could wait, to deal with Qi Lihong’s issue first.
But Jiang Yan was clearly getting impatient, “My girlfriend is sick. I need to take her to the hospital after school.”
As for the fact that his girlfriend had a brother who was a doctor, he conveniently ignored that.
