Chapter 182: Chapter 179 Help Chapter 182: Chapter 179 Help “Debt collection?”
Yang Dan looked at her in surprise, “What debt? Does someone owe your roommate money and isn’t paying back?”
“It’s something like that. You should also be careful in the future at school. If a guy pursues you, especially those shameless ones who spend your money and take advantage of you, you must not pay them any attention.”
As soon as she said this, Jiang Yan and the second oldest, who were drinking coffee nearby, both looked up.
The second oldest was puzzled, “A guy courting a girl still wants her money? Are there such guys at the university as well?” Shouldn’t college students have high standards?
Jiang Yan glanced at him, “Making a big fuss over nothing!”
Some guys have no shame at all; women can’t compete. They even get women to pay for hotel rooms and then deny everything after pulling up their pants.
But what can you do?
Some girls are just willing to be fools.
However, from what Jiajia indicated, he seemed quite surprised. Liang Yujun looked rather wise; how could she be this kind of fool too?
Yang Dan was quite curious, but seeing that Jiajia had no intention of gossiping about others, she didn’t ask any further.
As for the boys pursuing her…
Yang Dan blushed and shook her head, “Right now, I’m focused on making money. I haven’t even gotten to know all the guys in my class, let alone have time for this sort of thing. Besides… ”
Besides, she came from a rural area, plain and simple – which boy would be interested in her?
However, she felt too embarrassed to say this in front of Jiang Yan and the second oldest.
After sitting for about half an hour, Yang Dan left. It was the weekend, and the milk tea shop was busy, so she had to go back and help.
In fact, she didn’t always have to come over to deliver milk tea, but she wouldn’t listen when they told her, so Jiang Yan just let her be.
Song Jiawen saw Yang Dan onto the bus and then, with her backpack slung over her shoulder, drifted off toward Mu Chenyan’s newly purchased house.
The community was located right behind the Yu Heng apartment complex, a newly developed property from three years ago. Mu Chenyan had got her hands on a duplex of over three hundred square meters early on because of her connections with Beijing University.
Looking around the vicinity of Beijing University, there was no better or newer community than this one.
In September, after reclaiming Xiaosi, she bought another apartment for her daughter.
Entering the community, Song Jiawen walked for about five minutes along the clean cobblestone path, turned a corner, and saw the glasshouse her mother had set up in the courtyard of the first floor.
In the winter, it was quite cozy and comfortable to drink tea and paint inside.
At the moment, there were three people sitting in the glasshouse, beside Mu Chenyan were two others she had not seen before.
From a distance, Mu Chenyan hastily raised her arm to wave at Song Jiawen as soon as she saw her, then turned back to speak with the two women beside her, seemingly introducing her.
After arriving home, Yu Heng opened the door for Song Jiawen.
“You little rascal, you didn’t bring your keys again?”
She had them, but she wasn’t used to using them.
Seeing that Yu Heng looked a bit upset, she guessed what it might be.
“Xiaosi, come here.”
As Mu Chenyan spoke, she walked from the glass room into the living room, putting her arm around her daughter’s shoulder and whispering, “Your aunt and her sister-in-law’s niece are here. Go say hello and take a look at the girl to see if she’s a good match for your brother.”
It turned out to be a matchmaking setup!
Song Jiawen turned her head to look at Yu Heng, who silently shook his head at her.
Did he not like her?
So the big brother…
Song Jiawen’s eyes were filled with mischief, and Yu Heng nearly jumped up at the sight. He raised his hand and knocked her on the head, “Focus on something serious.”
Mu Chenyan displeasedly said, “What’s your sister done to annoy you? Hurry up and go cut the fruit.”
She took her daughter’s down vest off and led her into the glasshouse.
“Oh my, if it isn’t Xiaosi, she’s as lovely as she was when she was little, just like her big brother.”
Song Jiawen greeted them politely, responding with a smile to her aunt’s praises.
She didn’t talk much and sat quietly beside Mu Chenyan, sipping her tea in small sips.
Song Jiawen noticed a curious gaze occasionally landing on her, she looked up to see that it was the girl who had a blind date with her elder brother, called Liang Lei, twenty-six this year, teaching art at Yucheng Middle School.
From their conversation, Song Jiawen gathered that when Liang Lei was younger, she had sought Mu Chenyan for guidance in painting, but as to what level she had achieved, Song Jiawen guessed from her mother’s phrase “very hardworking” that this woman wasn’t talented.
Of course, whether one has artistic talent or not has nothing to do with matchmaking.
What matters is that her brother wasn’t interested in Liang Lei.
But their aunt clearly didn’t see it that way, seeing Yu Heng cutting fruits in the kitchen, she immediately urged Liang Lei, “Lei Lei, go and give Xiaoheng a hand.”
Liang Lei readily agreed, her eagerness to leave made Song Jiawen stare in bewilderment.
Mu Chenyan pretended not to see and lowered her head to take a sip of tea, then she said to the former sister-in-law, “Xinrui, today was just to let the two young people meet, but whether it works out depends on if they can get along. Make sure you clarify this to your sister-in-law.”
Yu Xinrui understood, “You mean you’re not interested?”
“Whether I’m interested or not doesn’t matter, what’s crucial is Xiaoheng.”
Yu Xinrui disagreed, “It’s true it depends on him, but as his mother, you should give a push when necessary. How can it simply be left up to him to find someone whenever he wishes?”
While speaking, she glanced at Song Jiawen and said with a smile, “In the past, you were too busy finding Xiaosi and had no time to care for your son, but now that your daughter is found and by your side, shouldn’t you focus more on your son? Although matchmaking relies on fate, the good thing is knowing each other’s family background well. Right?”
Mu Chenyan smiled without responding.
She did understand Liang Lei’s situation well, and she knew her parents too, but as for the child herself… well, it was up to Yu Heng to deal with it.
Seeing that Mu Chenyan no longer had anything to say on the matter, Yu Xinrui turned to Song Jiawen and asked, “Xiaosi, what do you think of Liang Lei?”
Song Jiawen looked up and blinked, “She’s okay, I guess.”
“Do you think your brother would like her?”
Song Jiawen shook her head, answering honestly, “I don’t know.”
Yu Xinrui teased her, “You’re at the same school as your brother; do you know if any female teachers like him?”
Song Jiawen nodded, “I know, our Teacher Luo really likes him, and they often eat together.”
Yu Xinrui looked startled, and Mu Chenyan also turned to look, asking, “The one from the physics department? Female physics teachers are rare.”
“Yes, the only female teacher in our department, they say she skipped grades to do her Ph.D., very smart and also very pretty. My brother behaves quite differently around her than he does with others.”
The smile disappeared from Yu Xinrui’s face, and she asked Mu Chenyan, “Did you not know this?”
Mu Chenyan looked puzzled, “I didn’t know, he never mentioned it.”
“Isn’t this playing games? Having an ambiguous relationship while also going on blind dates… Sister-in-law, how am I supposed to explain this to my sister-in-law?”
Mu Chenyan stood up, “Don’t worry just yet, I’ll call him over to ask.”
Song Jiawen sipped her tea, thinking to herself, this should be helping my brother, right?
In the kitchen, Yu Heng was cutting fruits while talking sporadically with Liang Lei, mainly her asking and him answering.
Mu Chenyan came in, helped arrange a plate for Liang Lei to take out, then turned to Yu Heng, “What’s the deal with you and Teacher Luo?”
Teacher Luo?
Which Teacher Luo?
Yu Heng looked confused, Mu Chenyan slapped him on the shoulder, “Your sister’s teacher from their department, she said you often dine together.”
Luo Xiao?
Yu Heng suddenly realized and hastened to nod, “That’s true.” In the faculty dining hall, everyone dined together.
“And then?”
And then?
“Well, we’re sort of seeing each other, nothing official yet.”
Mu Chenyan couldn’t help but slap him again, “You should have said something sooner, making your aunt and Liang Lei come all this way…”
“What do you mean ‘come all this way’? Didn’t they come to Beijing on business and stopped by? Besides, I said right from the start I didn’t agree; you just didn’t take it seriously.”
