Rebirth: He Decides to Lie Flat -
Chapter 158 - 158 155 Discussing a Business Deal
Chapter 158: Chapter 155: Discussing a Business Deal Chapter 158: Chapter 155: Discussing a Business Deal “Song Jiawen, come along too,” Xue Weisong finally turned to face Song Jiawen after agreeing with everyone else and gently persuaded, “I know you’re the only girl from our class going, and it might be a bit uncomfortable, but there are already so few girls in our class. You can’t just skip out on every activity because of this, right? College life has only just begun.”
Having a meal together is a normal class activity.
Xue Weisong was also smart not to bring up Xia Shi. The celebration was for Shen Mengfei’s election win; as the other candidate, if she had graciously conceded, it would have been fine. However, she acted as though she was aggrieved, as though everyone had bullied her.
How could they invite her to join them?
And as for not celebrating out of consideration for Xia Shi’s feelings… would everyone else be willing?
Song Jiawen didn’t really want to go. She wasn’t familiar with her classmates yet, especially since they were all boys, but… just as Xue Weisong said, there might be many more times like this in the future, and she couldn’t just skip every single one.
What a hassle.
In the end, Song Jiawen nodded in agreement.
….
At the same time, the class elections for the League Secretary in Jiang Yan’s class went much smoother.
Out of forty students in the class, there were about a dozen girls—not half, but more than a third. It made sense that if the class president was a male student, the League Secretary should be female, right?
Despite Weng Minhong looking a bit rough, she had a pleasant voice and spoke straightforwardly, with an open-hearted personality. Moreover, boys were often very forgiving toward girls, as long as they weren’t domineering and overbearing like Xia Shi. Under normal circumstances, boys would give way to girls.
So when Chi Zuo proposed Weng Minhong, everyone raised their hands in agreement, and the entire class meeting was over in less than half an hour.
After Chi Zuo left, Jiang Yan didn’t stay in the classroom for the evening self-study. He had to return to the dormitory, as he had arranged to meet with Jing Junyang and two senior students from the Finance College in the evening to look at his notebook.
On his way back, he cycled around to the Physics Building.
Coincidentally, Song Jiawen was walking out with her backpack on her back at that moment.
“Did you calculate the exact time I’d be coming over?”
Song Jiawen glanced at him and, without saying a word, went straight to the back seat of the bicycle, grabbing his shirt and sitting down on it.
Jiang Yan rode along unsteadily, reminding her, “Your tugging is going to deform my clothes. Otherwise, just hold onto my waist.”
A hand was about to reach around from behind when suddenly–
“Why do I smell perfume on you?”
“Perfume?” Jiang Yan looked bewildered, “How could that be? I’ve never been around that stuff, don’t accuse me wrongly. Oh, but wait… Tian Xiaohui has been dating someone online named ‘Poison Perfume’ recently. I glanced over a couple of times; does that count as contact?”
‘Poison Perfume’ contains the word perfume, fair enough.
Song Jiawen rolled her eyes from the rear seat and took another sniff towards his back, confirming, “No doubt about it; it’s perfume.”
What a nose for scent!
Weng Minhong had just taken office and brought him a form to discuss applying for financial aid for the class’s poor students, but the perfume scent on her wasn’t strong. Even if it had transferred onto him, it wouldn’t be that much, right?
He hadn’t even noticed it himself.
“I’m really at a loss with you!”
It wasn’t until they were close to the girls’ dormitory that Song Jiawen told him about the class dinner the next evening.
“Is that girl named Xia Shi also going?”
During a meal with Liang Yujun and the others, Ding Yuanyuan had mentioned a few times that this girl was seriously ill and at odds with Song Jiawen.
“She probably won’t go, since the gathering is to celebrate the election of the group secretary, and she wasn’t elected.”
Not only did she not get elected, but she also cried in front of everyone. Afterwards, she was taken aside by the counselor for a heart-to-heart talk and didn’t return.
Even if she had returned, Xue Weisong and Shen Mengfei probably wouldn’t have invited her. And even if they did invite her, she definitely wouldn’t have gone. In fact, she probably would’ve said that others were using it as an opportunity to mock her.
Sheesh, she had come to realize that Xia Shi was quite petty.
Jiang Yan turned his head, “So it’s just you, a single girl going?”
Song Jiawen hummed in agreement, just as they arrived at the girls’ dormitory number four. She glanced at him and bounced inside.
Jiang Yan gripped the handlebars of his bicycle and watched with a mix of amusement and irritation as she cheerfully entered the building.
It was his fault; he should have persuaded her to apply for a different major. What business did a girl have studying physics? Wasn’t it too brain-racking?
When Jiang Yan got back to the dorm, Jing Junyang and the others had just arrived. But it wasn’t just the three of them; there were two more, Jing Junyang’s roommates.
“They’ve all checked out Lao Du’s computer; it’s way better than before, so they followed us to have a look. Jiang junior, if your laptop can… Fuck, this is it?”
Jiang Yan’s notebook was sitting on the desk, solid black with no brand logo, but as to the actual quality of the computer… Jing Junyang and his two roommates had been studying computer science for over two years and had dealt with plenty of computers. They knew a donkey from a horse at a glance.
They turned on the computer and from booting it up to running it, it was even smoother than Lao Du’s.
“Jiang junior, did you really put this computer together yourself?”
Jiang Yan nodded, “Wait for the parts to arrive, and you can watch me do it live.”
Jing Junyang was envious. Although his own notebook cost nearly ten thousand yuan, it didn’t run as fast as Jiang Yan’s and it didn’t look as high-end either.
“Junior, how much?”
“If you want one like this model, five thousand.”
He and his friend had negotiated a wholesale price with a boss at the electronic wholesale market. Just his own unit, all the components added up to less than three thousand, so he was making a two thousand profit per machine. It sounded like a lot, but five thousand for a laptop really wasn’t expensive. Current desktop computers were about the same price, and laptops were pricier.
“Damn! That cheap? Okay, I’m in.”
Jing Junyang made a prompt decision. In their third year, their coursework was increasing, especially the weekly assignments for information processing, and they really needed a suitable computer. A desktop was too bulky, impractical for taking to the library to look up resources.
His roommate looked at Jing Junyang, “You don’t want the one in our dorm anymore?”
“Too slow. It just so happens my cousin wants one, so I’ll give it to him.”
Initially, his roommate had thought about asking if he could buy it at a second-hand price, but upon hearing it was for Jing’s cousin, he immediately clammed up.
The other roommate stared at Jiang Yan’s notebook for a few more seconds and then also decided to get one.
A senior from the finance college who shared a dorm with Lao Du had come in earlier and had specified that he wanted one after seeing the notebook. Five people came in, and three ordered one.
Jiang Yan took out a notebook to jot down their names and requirements, and at the end, collected a five hundred yuan deposit from each of them.
After the group left, he sat at the desk to start making a shopping list, but had only written a few characters when the dorm door opened again.
He turned his head to look at Jing Junyang, who had returned, and asked, “What’s up? Is there something else?”
Jing Junyang pulled over a chair to sit beside him, as usual taking out a pack of Zhonghua cigarettes from his pocket and offering one, “Bro, I want to discuss a business deal with you, you interested?”
