Rebirth: He Decides to Lie Flat -
Chapter 141 - 141 138 Not Looking at the Face
Chapter 141: Chapter 138: Not Looking at the Face Chapter 141: Chapter 138: Not Looking at the Face “Auntie, if you’re planning to go to Yunzhou, I suggest you’d better talk to Jiajia… to Xiaosi first,”
Before leaving, Jiang Yan seriously advised Mu Chenyan, “To her, it doesn’t matter what happens to Song Jianqiu and his family of three, but her uncle and grandmother are very important to her, especially since her grandmother’s health isn’t great right now. She calls her uncle’s house almost every other day, very concerned.”
Having said that, Jiang Yan turned and left.
Although Jiang Yan was Jiajia’s biological mother and brother, he wasn’t very familiar with them, so it wasn’t his place to say too much.
Not to mention him, Jiajia had recently been avoiding them too. With her nature, up until now, she had hardly spoken much to them.
She simply wasn’t used to it.
In Yu Heng’s office, Mu Chenyan felt a sourness in her heart when she heard that Xiaosi called her uncle’s home almost every other day.
But then she felt a bit of relief, after all, it was they who had accompanied her and helped her to get to where she was now, step by step.
She pondered in her heart, maybe…
Looking up, she saw Yu Ci getting up to leave and hurriedly called out to him, “Where are you going?”
“To find Xiaosi. I’ve been back for two days now and still haven’t said a word to her.”
This morning, pretending to be a student, he had sneaked a peak at the drill ground. Her face hadn’t changed from when she was a child; she had just grown up.
Mu Chenyan felt a headache coming on, “Didn’t I remind you? She has just recognized us and isn’t used to our warmth yet. If you go looking for her every day, be careful you don’t overdo it and end up making her avoid us.”
“But…”
“But what? Aren’t you just back and still jet-lagged? Go home and sleep. Visit your uncle in the hospital tomorrow and help him sort things out.”
…
After leaving Yu Heng’s office, Jiang Yan didn’t head straight back to his dormitory but used the campus public phone to call Song Jiawen and then squatted on the curb outside the girls’ dormitory number four.
It was almost a month into the school year, and the area below the freshmen’s dormitories was no longer as quiet as it had been at the beginning.
Now, it was bustling.
You could tell by looking at the few guys squatting by the roadside just like him.
But these guys squatting here were obviously not freshmen.
The greenhorns up front, each one of them acted restrained like a shy bride, both embarrassed and excited, their eyes fixed on the dormitory entrance, standing straight and proper.
It seemed the intensity of the military training hadn’t been enough; they still had the energy to date.
How on earth did they manage to start a romance? When did they find the time?
“Bro, want one?”
The guy squatting to the left of Jiang Yan was obviously a slick character. He glanced at Jiang Yan’s squatting posture, thinking he was a kindred spirit since their postures were similar, pulled out a pack of cigarettes, took one for himself first, and then popped another one out to offer to Jiang Yan.
Jiang Yan turned his head and glanced at the cigarette pack, spotting the prominent “Hua” among the characters on it, and his eyebrows twitched.
He had to give face!
He took the cigarette and put it in his mouth as well.
“Bro, which department’s girl are you eyeing?”
This Mr. Hua put the cigarette pack back in his pocket and then… that was it, simply holding the cigarette in his mouth as he started chatting with Jiang Yan.
“Physics, what about you?”
“Huh? Physics department?” Brother Hua was incredulous. “Bro, you have such a hardcore taste? Physics, chemistry, and math are famous for harboring… girls with substance. But very few girls enroll in physics each year; it’s good if a class has two or three of them, and here you are brazenly cutting in line.”
Jiang Yan chuckled and sincerely advised him, “Bro, you can’t just look at faces; sometimes girls with substance are more attractive.”
Brother Hua waved his hand dismissively, “I can’t do it, I can’t compare to you. I’m shallow, I only like girls with pretty faces… Let me give you a tip, bro. The freshmen girls from the foreign languages department this year are all delicate and curvy. Even in those bucket-like military training uniforms, they still manage to look good; just think about what their figures must be like…”
Brother Hua was in the middle of enthusiastically boasting about the fresh-faced beauties of the foreign language department he had his eye on when two girls walked out of the female dormitory.
The one in front had an average height, an oval face with big eyes, and wore a white long-sleeved dress that accentuated her willowy waist so much you’d wish you could grasp it with both hands. As she walked, her dress fluttered gracefully, exuding an air of ethereality.
“Hey bro, look, this is the one I just courted… Holy shit!”
Brother Hua was about to showcase his white-dressed beauty to Jiang Yan, but before he could finish his sentence, Song Jiawen, who was still yawning, appeared from behind.
Compared to the previous girl’s impressive attire, hers seemed much more casual. She merely wore a light blue cardigan over her pajamas, her long hair casually tied behind her head, her delicate brows and eyes slightly lazy, her unpowdered face glowing under the street lights… That’s right, after nearly a month of military training, not only had she not gotten any tanner, but her skin seemed to have improved, much to the envy of Liang Yujun and the others.
It was Brother Hua’s first time seeing Song Jiawen, and he was stunned.
By the time he gathered himself and considered asking Jiang Yan which department she was from, he found Jiang Yan removing the cigarette from his mouth and getting up to walk forward a couple of steps.
And that girl he thought was incredibly beautiful actually walked straight up to Jiang Yan and stopped, a slight frown on her forehead, “You smoke?”
It wasn’t clear if the university allowed smoking, but certainly, it wasn’t something commonly seen on campus.
Jiang Yan pointed at Brother Hua with one hand, “He gave it to me… I haven’t lit it, though.”
Song Jiawen huffed in dismissal, still unsatisfied with his answer.
Jiang Yan waved at Brother Hua, “Bro, I’m taking off.”
Watching the two of them walk away, Brother Hua cursed inwardly, ranting that this was what Jiang Yan meant by not just looking at faces?
Turning his head, he remembered the little girlfriend he had just pursued was still beside him.
Sigh… what a pity, why didn’t he meet that other girl first?
……
Jiang Yan and Song Jiawen found a place nearby to sit down.
At the end of September, Beijing had already entered early autumn, with a significant temperature difference between day and night. Even though Song Jiawen had put on a light sweater when she came downstairs, she couldn’t help but shiver in the night breeze.
“Spit it out quickly, so I can go back to sleep when you’re done.”
She was almost asleep before being woken up.
Jiang Yan was wearing a short-sleeved shirt with a tracksuit jacket over it. He took off the jacket and draped it over her shoulders, then pulled it tighter around her.
“I just saw your third brother.”
Song Jiawen’s brows furrowed slightly. Now, simply hearing the word “brother” gave her a headache because of how annoying and childish her oldest and second oldest brothers had been; she didn’t want to see them even once nowadays.
She didn’t continue along the direction of Jiang Yan’s remark, instead turning her head and looking at him with a tilt of her head, waiting for him to get to the point.
“Your mom wants to go to Jianglin Village. They’ve had someone investigate your past, and they turned Song Jianqiu and his wife’s lives upside down… What do you think?”
These days, when talking about Jianglin Village and the Song Family, Song Jiawen was quite calm, lacking the past’s gloominess and complaints. It wasn’t that she had forgiven them, it’s just… she had someone more important she wanted to protect. Compared to her grandmother, they weren’t worth mentioning at all.
