Chapter 443 - 427 Joy
Chapter 443: Chapter 427 Joy
Lu Yun was brimming with pride. Given that her grandmother’s side of the family had a history of triplet births, she had been understandably disappointed not to have even twins the last time around. This time, however, she felt handsomely compensated.
With the thought, her heart bubbled with joy, "It’s just, I wonder if among the three there’s one or maybe two girls? Even if all three are girls, I’d be willing. Daughters are so sweet, and we already have a son. It wouldn’t be a big deal to make Pei Yi grow a bit stronger and take on the role of protecting his three little sisters."
"We don’t need him for that, can’t I protect my own daughters without interference?" Shitou, after his initial ecstasy, laughed and disagreed as soon as he heard Lu Yun’s words, promptly retorting without much thought.
"Boo hoo hoo, and here I thought you’d say the daughters should be left for the rascal to protect, that you’d protect me instead. Turns out daughters are more important than wives after all, huh?"
Lu Yun’s eyes widened, as if in disbelief, as she looked at Shitou, then lowered her head to cover her face, her shoulders starting to tremble with suppressed laughter.
"Stop laughing. Don’t you know that in my heart, a wife is definitely more important than daughters?" Shitou wrapped her in his arms, his face showing a hint of resignation but mostly indulgence and doting.
"You cheat, you used your ’spiritual power’ to peek, didn’t you?" Lu Yun pouted, accusing.
"You underestimate me. With your unprofessional acting, do I need to peek?"
Shitou’s tone was even more resigned, barely able to hide his amusement, "If you’re going to fake cry, at least have some tears. And you even let your laughter slip out several times."
"No fun," Lu Yun simply sulked, "That won’t do, next time you have to pretend to be fooled, okay?"
"But haven’t I already pretended the last time, and the time before that?" Shitou was increasingly amused, "Who generously promised me last time that I didn’t have to pretend this time, has someone become forgetful with their high status?"
"I’m—pregnant."
Lu Yun announced with a triumphant shake of her head, "You know a pregnant woman’s emotions are very unstable, so you’ll have to understand me."
"When were your emotions ever stable when you weren’t pregnant? The dozen or so days before your ’relatives’ arrive each month require understanding due to mood swings. Not to mention during their visit. And then another dozen days after they leave—"
Shitou could hardly contain his laughter as he spoke, gently teasing by stroking Lu Yun’s cheek," Anyway, I just know whether you’re pregnant or not, out of 365 days a year, there need to be 366 days when you’re in a state that needs to be understood."
"Tch, resentful man, seems like you’ve got quite the grievance..." Lu Yun raised her eyebrows, touched her chin, and playfully sent a flirtatious wink his way.
"So you’ve finally noticed--"
Shitou mock "woefully" tossed the flirtatious wink back at her, his antics causing
Lu Yun to laugh uncontrollably, not forgetting to grab him and tease, "Are you really that resentful?"
"Of course not. Actually, I find all of it quite sweet," Shitou sent another coquettish look her way, this time even adding the delicacy of a dainty finger posture.
"Hahaha..."
It was too funny, Lu Yun held her belly, too amused to speak.
Shitou, startled, dared not rub her belly, only able to pat her back to help her catch her breath. He inwardly regretted making her laugh so hard as concern crept onto his face.
"It’s alright, laughter makes one live ten years longer. The babies in your belly aren’t that fragile. Maybe they’ll even learn how to sweet-talk others because of your teaching in the womb?" Lu Yun finally stopped laughing as she gradually quieted down, her comforting words morphing into teasing as she pulled on Shitou’s hand.
"..." Can daddy bail on carrying this huge pot, or is it not an option?
Shitou couldn’t help feeling aggrieved this time, which again sent Lu Yun into fits of laughter.
"Seeing how slick and smooth-talking you’ve become now, I actually find myself missing the days when you tried to act cool, dripping with so much charm that you made people drool. You were so handsome when you were all cool and aloof!"
Lu Yun was full of longing.
"The grass is always greener." Shitou couldn’t help but slap the butt of a certain woman who was drooling over her memories, prompting her to instantly cover her rear and protest in both embarrassment and annoyance.
"No way, you need to revert back to your old self immediately. Ever since you started with the smooth talk, you’ve been slowly picking up bad habits. Now you’ve even started hitting people. I liked you better before. Oh God, please make him change back."
Lu Yun folded her hands in prayer.
"Wrong. God will ignore you, seeing how you pray with such a slapdash attitude," said Shitou with a laugh but without any mirth.
"What do you know? It’s better to light a candle at the last minute than to curse the darkness."
Lu Yun burst out laughing, and for no reason, suddenly remembered the little troublemakers at school—after spending a few years with them, their true colors showed more and more. Even though it was a formal military school, there were always a few who cut corners, only to cram at the last minute before various tests, still managing to argue their case with conviction.
"So that’s what you’ve been teaching the kids all along?" Shitou couldn’t resist teasing her again.
"Absolutely not, Comrade Shitou. You should know this is a very serious topic; it’s not for joking around." Lu Yun smacked him hard, as she lectured him with a stern face which, at a glance, did look somewhat convincing.
"Yes, ma’am," Shitou replied, trying to hold back his laughter.
"Not serious enough." What came in response to Shitou was a scornful and coquettish roll of the eyes.
The news that Lu Yun was pregnant again, and with triplets no less, spread its wings and flew, immersing the Pei Family from top to bottom in the joy of the impending addition to the next generation of the family.
Zhang Min was especially excited, unable to contain her happiness. She gathered a large assortment of nutritional supplements, big bags and small, and dashed to Shitou’s base with Pei Qingyuan in tow.
Over the years, Shitou and Lu Yun had been extremely busy, with very limited visits to Capital City. Although they didn’t meet often, Zhang Min treated both her daughters-in-law with equal affection, both in her heart and in her actions.
She didn’t neglect Lu Yun simply because she lived far away, and Ding Luoluo was closer at hand and perhaps inherently more intimate. There was no preferential treatment for either of them.
"Better to have equality than plenty."
In Zhang Min’s view, harmony and coexistence within a large family was of utmost importance.
Where did harmony come from?
Well, first and foremost, fairness was essential. If the elders themselves were biased, how could they expect the younger generation to genuinely coexist in harmony, or to unite and stand firm together when it really mattered?
"Grandma, we really don’t lack for anything. Besides, what nutritional supplement could possibly compare to the Elixirs Xiaoyun concocts herself? Bringing all this is just a waste, isn’t it?"
