Chapter 432: Chapter 416: Unforgettable Lessons

"Look, do you see him? That guy right there, what a shame that someone so handsome is completely wasted. Just look at them; the clothes they’re wearing seem of decent material, but not a single piece from a designer brand."

They look human enough, but as soon as they pick something up, their true colors show; they act like they’ve never seen anything nice in their eight lifetimes. Just now, when I passed by, he and a woman next to him were even muttering about getting takeout.

Tsk, a bunch of paupers, I’ve seen him going back for meat several times in just a short while I’ve been here, eating like they’ve never had food before. The two of them aren’t even afraid of grabbing more than they can eat. What, do they really plan on taking home what they can’t eat?"

In a corner of the terrace, three women sat together. The one in the purple dress with curves in all the right places was the same woman who had just walked past Lu Yun and Shitou, now looking over at Shitou with a face full of disdain.

In her hand, she twirled a glass of champagne served in a tall crystal glass, her face expressing heavy mockery: "Country bumpkins."

"Being able to eat is a blessing; in front of delicious food, everything else is secondary. Maybe they just have big appetites. They were probably joking about the takeout. Meili, can you not be so sharp? Maybe work on being a bit nicer?"

Another woman, wearing a green ruffled blouse and ivory white wide-leg pants, slightly plump, disagreed. She forked a piece of roasted meat—also made by that foreign chef—into her mouth and closed her eyes in satisfaction, "The taste is indeed very good. It’s a rare opportunity, Meili, Yang Yun, you really should try some."

"Ye Man, look at how big you’ve gotten, yet you still eat. Aren’t you worried about scaring off men? Just enjoy your meal by yourself, I’ve lost my appetite."

Another woman in a light blue dress named Yang Yun gave Ye Man a sideways glance, put down her champagne glass, and took out a small mirror from her tiny clutch to admire herself.

"Ye Man, I really think you should stop eating too, instead of worrying like those bumpkins that you can’t make the most of your meal. If you keep eating like this, you’ll turn into a pig."

Meili looked at Ye Man with dissatisfaction, still holding a grudge against her remarks about being more polite.

"Are we supposed to leave a wedding banquet hungry and starve when we get home?" Ye Man continued to chew her grilled meat nonchalantly. "Meili, you shouldn’t always have ’country bumpkin’ on your lips; watch out, or you’ll offend someone without knowing it. The ’country bumpkins’ in your mouth might turn out to be from an imperial lineage. Even the Emperor has poor relatives, let alone our General Manager. The Lu Group offers some of the best benefits and compensation in the industry. Even though we’re just secretaries, this job was hard to come by. If you lose your job because of your reckless mouth, it would be a real loss."

Seeing that Meili seemed somewhat unconvinced and even a bit regretful, Ye Man didn’t bother to engage further and turned to the woman checking herself in the mirror, "Yang Yun, you’re already beautiful; staring into the mirror any longer won’t make you any prettier. Besides, what’s the point of sticking around this terrace if you want to meet rich and handsome men?"

"Seriously, even the food can’t shut you up. Aren’t you tired after saying so much in one breath? We’ve tried going inside before, and it was no use. Forget the married ones; didn’t you see all of them with their plain-looking wives? We wouldn’t stoop so low as to be their mistresses, even if they were interested."

Yang Yun set down her mirror, visibly unhappy, "The unmarried groomsmen all have bridesmaids with them, and we can hardly get close. The few remaining bachelors either have fiancées or girlfriends. Haven’t you noticed how tightly their female companions watch them?"

"That’s why the most worthwhile thing for us to do today is enjoy the food to our heart’s content," laughed Ye Man.

"Can’t be bothered with you."

Yang Yun and Meili simultaneously rolled their eyes at her.

"Hey, can you guys tell me why our names both contain the word ’yun,’ yet our fates differ so drastically?" Yang Yun lamented as she looked at her reflection in the mirror, appealing to the two for consolation.

Ye Man was sipping her drink when she almost spit it out upon hearing this. She looked at Yang Yun’s increasingly pitiful face and sat up straight, speaking seriously, "That’s because ’this yun’ is not the same as ’that Yun.’"

"It’s not fair. Tell me, why is it that my ’yun’ without the ’grass’ radical has fallen to the ground and become an inconspicuous little grass, while the one with the ’grass’ radical turns out to live a princess’s life high above?" Yang Yun demanded, staring intently at Ye Man with the look of someone who wouldn’t rest until she got a satisfactory explanation.

"I can only regretfully tell you that being reincarnated is a profound skill, not something ordinary people can master. If you played the game poorly, whom can you blame?" Ye Man shrugged.

"Pfft."

Lu Yun spat out her coconut juice, but Shitou, quick as lightning, used his spiritual power to form a transparent barrier that prevented the juice from spraying on him. Instead, the juice gathered into a small stream and dripped onto the ground.

"That girl named Ye Man really talks in an interesting way," Lu Yun said with a laugh before Shitou could ask and proceeded to repeat the conversation she had overheard.

"What’s so interesting about that? They didn’t say many kind words. Aren’t you upset after hearing that?" Shitou smiled helplessly at Lu Yun.

"Upset? Why should I be? Consider it a glimpse of the many facets of humanity. If it hadn’t been for that annoying woman named Meili who kept staring at you when you went to get barbecue, I wouldn’t have been interested in listening to their gossip in the first place."

Lu Yun puffed up her cheeks and spoke righteously. Over the years, she felt she had become increasingly spoiled by Shitou, "I’m just being proactive in preventing problems."

"So after all this time, you still don’t trust me, huh? Listen, you were so worried, and it turns out she wasn’t even interested!" Shitou teased, leaning in and starting to pester her light-heartedly.

"Cough cough, well, the master’s meat is ready, hurry up and go. Let’s not take any more after this last round," pushed Lu Yun, uncomfortable.

Shitou laughed, stood up obediently, and went to get more barbecue, then winked at Lu Yun, "Want to give that woman named Meili an unforgettable lesson?"

"What’s your plan?" Lu Yun asked with interest, then pursed her lips, "Eh, forget it, though. Despite the fact that she’s a snob and a bit vain, we don’t need to go out of our way to target and seek revenge, right? That would make us look petty."

Shitou just smiled at her.

"Okay, okay, just tell me your idea first."
