Chapter 417: Chapter 401: Talent
"How’s the progress, have Yinyin’s relatives been located and made to confess yet?"
As soon as Lu Yun saw Shitou enter the room, she followed him to the bathroom door, watching him wash his hands first and then scoop up some water to wash his face, a flick of water drops signifying the end of the task.
"Yes. They’ve all confessed, and we even managed to catch one of the criminals who had escaped years ago."
Shitou nodded, "The child has already been taken care of by a designated person who put her on a plane back to her hometown, and her biological parents have been notified to pick her up from the local police station. They should be reunited as a family tonight. We also rescued seven or eight other children this time, most of whom are locals or tourists here. Only two or three were used as bait, all very small and barely able to speak clearly. It was an organized crime syndicate with everyone having different roles."
"At least the outcome is somewhat perfect. That child is clever, too; such a small child still maintained a kind heart at a critical time and knew to ask for help. But it’s just too tragic—when we bathed her, we discovered her body was full of bruises, even many scars from cigarette burns. How could those people be so cruel?" Lu Yun first breathed a sigh of relief, then angrily cursed.
"Haven’t you already secretly administered an Elixir to Yinyin to adjust her body and gave her the scar-removing ointment? And those two, you’ve also dealt with them in secret, likely condemning them to suffer unpredictable, severe pain for the rest of their lives, along with an itching that makes them want to scratch their flesh down to the bone."
Shitou smiled cheerfully, "I’ve never seen you deal such a harsh blow to anyone behind their backs before."
"Hmph, I still think it’s too lenient for them. When the Elixir takes effect, it will burn their vitality, meaning they can live only about ten more years at most. They will suffer for just over a decade, while the families they’ve destroyed, the people they’ve sold, will endure a lifetime of heartache."
Lu Yun said indignantly, "Do you think they’ve got off too lightly?"
"That’s why I didn’t wait for you to tell me; I’ve already administered the same Elixir to all their accomplices we caught," Shitou said, seeking approval from Lu Yun, a look of pride on his face.
"Haha, well done."
Lu Yun praised, then generously wrapped her arms around Shitou’s neck and planted a "smack" on his face.
"Based on that woman’s confession, Yinyin was abducted only two or three months ago. At first, when she was being trained, they thought everything was fine, and she did well on her first job with them. But the child is sensitive, she probably realized something was wrong. After that, her cooperation deteriorated, and she repeatedly took opportunities to remind people to look for help, messing up their plans.
This time, the child traffickers had already starved her for two or three meals and had not intended to take her out again; they were planning to sell her directly. But they ended up using her again because they suddenly had no one else available."
Shitou sighed, "Do you know why they targeted Pei Yi this time?"
"Why? Weren’t they selecting their targets randomly?" Lu Yun was surprised.
"Usually, they do choose their targets randomly, aiming for young children. This time they came after us out of a desire for revenge. It turns out that their boss is the same guy we caught during our picnic in the mountains years ago, who had trespassed into our area and later escaped, disappearing without a trace afterwards."
Shitou began to explain in detail to Lu Yun, "Back then, we thought he had no way to escape, but unexpectedly, he was ruthless enough to disfigure his own face with burns and completely change his identity. He hasn’t stayed in the same place for more than three months these past years.
This time, he was planning to leave S City soon, but recognized us on the way. Probably feeling too comfortable over the years, he thought he could take Pei Yi right under our noses."
"It’s unexpected—and thankfully so—that he’s been caught this time. Otherwise, who knows how many more families he would have harmed," Lu Yun said after a lingering pause.
"They’re being interrogated as we speak. Even if they themselves can no longer remember how many children they’ve abducted over the years and the evil they’ve done, as long as their brains are intact, we can dig up each incident one by one." Shitou’s laugh was cold, determination in his voice that those who dare target his family must be prepared to face the consequences.
"To deal with these people, it’s indeed necessary to use thunderous methods like forcefully searching their brains with psychic power. Was it your people you lent them?" Lu Yun realized upon hearing this.
"It’s our family matter, so it’s only natural for us to get involved. It was also a good opportunity for them to practice." Shitou didn’t want to dwell further on this topic and quickly changed it, "We should also be going to my aunt’s soon, shouldn’t we?"
"Let’s wait until tomorrow. I was so upset today, and it’s a celebration at my aunt’s place; I don’t want to bring such bad vibes and spoil the mood."
Seeing Shitou switch topics, Lu Yun didn’t probe further. She only cared about rescuing as many abducted children as possible, the first and foremost concern. As for the condition of those people afterwards, whether because of rookie mistakes they might end up as idiots or mentally challenged, that was completely outside of her scope of concern.
"That might be for the best. Are you still planning to go out tonight?" Shitou asked again.
"I’m not in the mood anymore, I’m exhausted and need to rest. It’s been a stressful afternoon; I didn’t even get my nap."
Lu Yun yawned and suddenly brought up, "Did you know? I tested Yinyin’s abilities in private, and to my surprise, she actually has an A-grade psychic power talent. I really like that child. If you hadn’t been quick on the job, I would have thought about adopting her ourselves."
"Are you saying our efficiency is too high for your liking? If you want a daughter that badly, we can have one ourselves," Shitou joked, reaching out for her.
"What nonsense are you talking about?"
Lu Yun slapped his hand away, annoyed, "Of course, it’s better for a child to grow up with their own parents. I just hope that after this ordeal, her parents won’t stop her from leaving and deny her the chance to train in psychic power techniques, which would truly be a waste of her talent."
"Rest assured. The country wouldn’t give up on an A-grade psychic power talent, even if her parents would."
Shitou’s eyes lit up. An A-grade talent was a promising seedling, and if the political screening was passed, they could consider recruiting her for their side. Given Yinyin’s experience, it was unlikely that anyone else could snatch her away from them.
"Hey, what about voluntary principles?" Lu Yun questioned.
"That still depends on the talent level. For an A-grade talent, even the political screening won’t be as strict. But if the training is at our island base, that’s a different story altogether; both are indispensable."
