Chapter 415: Chapter 399 Flirting

"You think I’m stupid or something? Even if you let me, I definitely wouldn’t actually have eight or ten kids," Lu Yun said with eyes wide open, successfully sidetracked by Shitou’s smooth talking.

"How could that be? Joking about having ten or eight kids can’t be taken seriously. We just need to have one more, how about giving birth to another little princess as beautiful and adorable as you?" Shitou said, his face full of longing.

"It’s great to have a daughter, but who can guarantee that the next one will definitely be a girl? What if it’s another stinky boy?" Lu Yun was very conflicted. One stinky boy was already a handful, mainly because he was too naughty. Having another would only make her feel more miserable.

"There’s still me, right? Didn’t we agree that you would handle daughters and I would take care of sons? Rarity makes something precious, doesn’t it? When there’s only one child, the naughty one will think they’re a panda, acting unrestrained because no one can control them, but when you have two or more, it’s a totally different story."

Shitou promised, thumping his chest confidently, "Just wait and see, you’ll just need to wait for them to come to you for affection. You’ll be pleased to pat whichever head you want, pinch whichever cheek you want. I guarantee they’ll behave and won’t resist, and who knows, if you pinch one’s cheek less, the other might even get jealous..."

Lu Yun blinked, getting lost in the wonderful vision Shitou painted, and almost drooled.

However, she quickly snapped back to reality, the more she thought about it, the more something felt off, and she glared at Shitou indignantly, "Why do you describe me as if I’m some weird auntie who specializes in bullying kids?"

"Wife, you’re overthinking it, I was just making a comparison," he said.

Shitou quickly let out a nervous chuckle, "Didn’t we say we were going to rest in that small park over there? Let’s hurry and see if there’s a place to sit, my feet are tired from walking."

"Changing the subject again," Lu Yun rolled her eyes dramatically, giving him an exasperated glance.

The small park wasn’t large; one could see the end at a glance. Before they entered, a couple dressed as lovers and two dressed as tourists had gone in to check. The "lovers" stayed inside, and the "tourists" came out and gave them a slight nod, then stayed outside.

Shitou took Lu Yun and Pei Yi inside and saw that most of the people in the small park were seniors with their grandchildren, and of course, there were also young parents.

Most people were sitting on the cobblestone-covered flowerbed borders, with strollers parked here and there. Aside from toddlers wobbling and staggering as they learned to walk, there were also some older kids happily running around and playing chase.

When they saw strangers coming, everyone’s gaze briefly shifted towards them, but seeing they also had a child, most looked away.

"This place isn’t big, but the environment is quite nice."

Lu Yun took a look around and pulled Shitou to an empty, clean-looking flowerbed border to sit down. Pei Yi stood next to them, glanced around, and lost interest when he noticed all the playing children were younger than him.

"Are you here on vacation?" A young woman, accompanied by a four- or five-year-old girl who appeared shy and embarrassed, came over and sat down beside Lu Yun uninvited, asking in a friendly manner, "Your son is really handsome."

"Sort of," Lu Yun wasn’t particularly good at striking up conversations with strangers, and she couldn’t help but feel a bit wary about the overly enthusiastic woman who approached her. Still, out of politeness, she nodded and smiled in response.

"I knew it. Kids your son’s age, if not on a trip, they’d definitely be in school. Besides, your accent doesn’t sound local."

The woman, with a face full of smiles and holding a little girl’s hand, introduced herself, "We’re also out on a trip as a family. However, our situation is a bit special. My Duoduo is already six years old but hasn’t started kindergarten yet. She was born timid, not daring to speak much in front of others. She once tried kindergarten but just couldn’t blend in. She always ended up crying, and eventually, the teachers suggested we withdraw her because it wasn’t working out.

"Ah, her father and I have been so worried about this, we even saw a doctor. The doctor said there’s nothing wrong with the child; we just need to take her out more often and spend more time with her. So whenever we get the chance, her father and I take her traveling, hoping that by visiting more places and interacting with more people, she might gradually become less shy and afraid of others. Look, over there, that’s my husband," the woman said with a laugh, pointing toward a cultured-looking man with glasses not far away. He noticed them and smiled their way without coming over.

"Her father’s also not fond of mingling with people, so unfortunately, she takes after him in that respect, and even more so. Why couldn’t she be more like me? Thankfully, we’re financially comfortable; we run a small business that doesn’t require our constant presence. Otherwise, how would we have the means to wander around like this?"

"Truly, the hearts of parents are all bittersweet."

Lu Yun’s guard toward the woman immediately lessened by a great deal, and she felt a surge of sympathy. She watched the little girl, who indeed stood close to the woman, shyly looking down, occasionally stealing glances at Pei Yi with a strong look of yearning in her eyes. Yet, when the woman nudged her and encouraged her to go play with Pei Yi, she didn’t dare to go. Instead, she withdrew even more, like a frightened quail, with fear appearing in her eyes.

A flicker of doubt crossed Lu Yun’s mind.

She stood up from the stone edge of the flower bed, pulled Pei Yi over, reached into her pocket, and took out a piece of chocolate. After tearing off the wrapper, she placed it in Pei Yi’s hand, crouched down, and waved at the little girl with a smile, "Are you Duoduo? Do you want to come play with your brother? He’ll share his chocolate with you."

"..." The little girl stared intently at the chocolate in Pei Yi’s hand, swallowing her saliva uncontrollably. She couldn’t help but look back at the woman, her eyes filled with questions and longing.

The woman’s gaze darkened, and she cast a covert glare at the girl. Holding onto the girl’s arm, she put on a pleasant smile and nudged her, saying, "Go ahead, remember to thank your brother. Mommy has some candy too. After you’ve had your brother’s chocolate, don’t forget to bring him here to have some candy, okay?"

The little girl tensed at the woman’s gaze and quickly nodded.

"Go on." The woman gave the little girl’s arm a firm pinch through the sleeve, her smile unchanging. She even made a gentle pushing gesture and watched with an encouraging look as the girl ran toward Pei Yi.

Meanwhile, the cultured man with glasses approached the woman with an unhurried air, "We’ve stayed long enough. It’s time to go back."

"Don’t be so impatient, let’s stay a bit longer. Our Duoduo has just made a new friend—it’s not easy for her," the woman cooed at the man with a smile.
