Chapter 414: Chapter 398 Resolute

"Don’t get mouthy with your mother," Shitou said, as he lightly slapped Pei Yi’s head, "show some respect."

"You’re all in it together, picking on the little guy. What kind of skill is that?"

As Pei Yi dodged left and right, he just couldn’t evade Shitou’s "magic hand." Instantly, the little man’s self-esteem took a hit. He got so angry that he was jumping up and down and shouting, "You’re not even supposed to hit the face, let alone the head. Can’t you guys show a little dignity befitting your age?"

"How has this little rascal become so eloquent lately? Spouting arguments left and right—is it from watching too much TV?" Lu Yun asked Shitou curiously.

"That must be it. He even has time to watch TV. Seems like we haven’t been strict enough, we should ramp up his training," Shitou replied with raised eyebrows, a mischievous smile aimed at Pei Yi.

A chill went down Pei Yi’s spine as he quickly shook his head, looking to Lu Yun for help, "Mom, you’re my real mom, you can’t just stand by and let dad ruin the country’s future generations, let alone be an accomplice. He’s forcing things. My conscience is clear, I really don’t have any extra time to watch TV. At most, I can only squeeze out such a tiny bit of time each day to read."

To emphasize how "tiny" that bit of time was, Pei Yi stretched out his little finger against his thumb, indicating a space about the size of one-fifth or one-sixth of a fingernail cap, eagerly showing it to Lu Yun.

As he spoke, he continued to emphasize, "Everyone says you learn as long as you live, and it’s about balancing work and rest. You can’t always ask me to be an uncultured fighter, right?"

"It seems like this reading has been somewhat effective. How many books have you actually stashed away in there?" Lu Yun suddenly reached out and lifted the hem of Pei Yi’s shirt, curiously patting his fair little belly.

"Mom, what about ’men and women don’t touch’? Dad, can’t you control your wife? This is just too, too..."

Feeling utterly humiliated, Pei Yi quickly jumped away, clutching the hem of his shirt and looking around. Turning back, he glowered at Lu Yun with a flushed face, at a loss for words to express his dissatisfaction with Lu Yun’s "hooligan" behavior.

"Who told you to say your mom and I are ’in cahoots’? Do you even know how to use words? If not, go figure it out before speaking. Don’t make a fool of yourself and have people laugh their heads off," Shitou said with disdain.

He glanced at Pei Yi, "The principle of ’educating children in public, wife in private’ is beyond you, and yet you’re so brazen, even if I wanted to ’educate’ my wife, I wouldn’t do it in public."

He subtly warned Lu Yun with a glance. Becoming too bold, she dared to touch the belly of a "man" other than him. It seemed he really needed to give her a good lesson tonight.

He looked at his son, who was still hopping mad, and felt very satisfied with the gender education he’d provided behind the scenes all this time.

"If you don’t know how to use a phrase, then don’t. What’s this about ’men and women don’t touch’? What’s wrong with a mother touching her son’s little belly? I’m already so used to seeing your bare butt," Lu Yun said with a triumphant wink at her son.

"Mom, can you stop messing around? I’ve grown up, I’m not a three-year-old anymore."

Pei Yi started to look around again. Seeing the nearby guards snickering, his face turned red with frustration, almost at a loss for words. He had refused his mother’s help with bathing and dressing since he was three, and now at almost eight years old, his mother was still so careless with her words in public.

Pouting discontentedly, his face was frosty. Besides looking somewhat chubbier and retaining some baby fat compared to Shitou as a child, his demeanor and aura were almost the same.

At that moment, the only thought in Pei Yi’s deeply hurt little heart was simply: This is just too, too embarrassing.

"So cute."

Lu Yun found her heart melting at the sight and couldn’t help wanting to rush over, grab his little cheeks, and give them a fierce nibble.

Seeing trouble brewing, Pei Yi reacted quickly this time and darted behind Shitou to hide.

"Boys are just not cute at all, wah, at least Pei Xin is somewhat interesting." Lu Yun complained while eyeing Pei Yi sorrowfully.

"Mom, didn’t Grandma and Auntie just complain last time we were back in the Capital City that Uncle had taught Xinxin to be wilder than boys, without any girlish demeanor? Have you forgotten?"

Pei Yi peeked out, cautiously maintaining a safe distance from his own mother, while gleefully reminding her.

"You should call her ’sister,’ understand? Humph, she’s much better behaved than you, at least she doesn’t run away when I hug and kiss her. That alone makes her a thousand times better than you." Lu Yun pointed angrily at her son.

"Then you might as well have another sister to cuddle and hug. I am already a man, and I can’t just cuddle and hug someone else’s wife willy-nilly." Pei Yi looked at Lu Yun warily.

"You, you are just too unlovable. You think I wouldn’t dare have another one? When I do have a sister, I won’t treasure you anymore, and you can just cry in your blanket."

Lu Yun threatened through gritted teeth, utterly unconcerned about possibly causing any psychological scars to her son’s young mind. She looked at Pei Yi triumphantly, her face clearly expressing—come beg for mercy and I’ll let you off.

Pei Yi silently turned his head and looked at Shitou with sympathy, then gazed up at the sky, speechless.

Struggling to suppress a laugh, Shitou went over and embraced Lu Yun, who was on the verge of an outburst, and soothed her in a low voice, "Darling, let’s not stoop to arguing with that bratty boy. Tomorrow, let’s try for ten or eight children to really get back at the little bugger and let him know what it feels like to be out of favor."

"Pah, what do you mean ’try for ten or eight children’? Do you see me as a sow? And are you sure the country’s policy would allow that? Don’t think I don’t know it’s you playing tricks behind the scenes, making our son reluctant to get close to me, right?"

Lu Yun stomped viciously on Shitou’s foot. Nowadays she didn’t bother to pinch him anymore, as it was no use against his thick-skinned and tough build, and it only wasted her own effort.

Shitou twitched the corners of his mouth and, with a deadpan face, told a bald-faced lie, "No way, how could I do such things behind someone’s back?"

He solemnly promised, dodging the truth: "I keep telling him every day that even if he can’t be good to me, he must be good to you. I also warned him that if he ever dares to marry and forget his mom, defying you, no matter if he has grandchildren, I’d still punish him in front of them with our family law, without sparing his dignity."

Lu Yun was half convinced.

"I believe that future national policies will definitely be adjusted to allow couples with spiritual power to have more children, thus increasing the birth rate of children with Psychic Power Talent. Considering how high both of our spiritual power levels are, any child we have is unlikely to be that much different. So you don’t have to worry about breaking the policy by having too many children in the future."

Shitou coaxed Lu Yun in a soft, cajoling tone, full of certainty.
