Chapter 402: Chapter 386: Pei Yi (Two-in-One Chapter)_3
Lu Yun looked helplessly at Shitou as he touched his head, "Stop it, you know this really detracts from your wise and valiant image, right?"
"You’re clearly cheating," Shitou accused, burying his head in Lu Yun’s neck and taking a deep breath, a hint of dissatisfaction in his grumbled words.
"What else do you want? Come on, stop making a fuss and get down. What would it look like if mom or grandma came up with some food and saw you like this?" Lu Yun’s eyebrows furrowed as she scolded sternly.
"Don’t worry, I’m keeping an eye out. They won’t see," Shitou mumbled.
"What exactly are you being so petulant about? Are you not happy about Guaibao’s arrival?" Lu Yun softened her voice.
"Of course not," Shitou replied.
"That settles it, then. Guaibao is still little and needs our care, so I can’t help but give him a bit more attention for now, can I? When he grows up, it won’t be like this. Besides, he’s a boy. It’s often said, ’the fault of the son is the father’s.’ By then, it will be your turn to devote more energy to him, and who knows, maybe I’ll be the one getting jealous of you two?"
As Lu Yun patiently soothed Shitou, numerous thoughts raced through her mind, and the little person inside her was biting a handkerchief and crying—she was the one who had just given birth, right? Wasn’t it said that new mothers are the most prone to postpartum depression and need comforting and guidance from others? Why was it that the situation was reversed, with her consoling a sulky Shitou?
It really didn’t make sense.
"I won’t give you the chance to be jealous, you’re always first no matter what," Shitou insisted with a tone that brooked no argument.
Lu Yun was immediately moved. She cast aside all other thoughts, wrapped her arms around Shitou’s neck, and gave him a kiss, "I feel the same way. We are the most important people in each other’s lives. Just like mom and dad; their most important person is each other. Grandma and grandpa are the same. One day, Guaibao will also meet the most important person in his life, so your jealousy is utterly pointless."
"Mm-hmm." Shitou finally nodded and smiled genuinely, lowering his head to return her kiss.
"Ahem--"
Xia Yuan stood at the door with a tray in hand, watching the couple on the bed, unable to resist coughing twice.
"Didn’t you say you would be watchful?" Lu Yun’s face turned bright red with embarrassment when she heard Xia Yuan’s voice, and she kicked Shitou off the bed and demanded furiously.
She couldn’t help but feel relieved that it was her mother who came up. If her grandmother had seen this scene, she would have been utterly mortified regardless of which side of the family she came from.
"I just got distracted for a moment," Shitou said as he got up from the floor and cast a plaintive glance at Lu Yun.
"All right, all right, what’s with scolding Shitou so fiercely? Come on, eat your food quickly, Guaibao will be brought up for his feeding soon," Xia Yuan said, holding back a laugh as she walked in, chastising Lu Yun.
She had known the two of them were inside and was worried they might not be able to restrain themselves after being apart for so long, so she had knocked on the door before coming in. Yet, she still caught them in the act.
Thinking it wasn’t good to barge in on them like this, she quickly backed out and waited at the door for a while before knocking again. But the couple hadn’t taken any precaution whatsoever. If it had been someone else who came in, someone dangerous...
Xia Yuan couldn’t help but glance at Shitou and Lu Yun. Young couples, long separation feels like a new marriage—what couldn’t she understand? But they were too engrossed, too absent-minded, and that wasn’t acceptable. What if they got careless...
She silently resolved to have a serious private talk with Lu Yun later on, to not let their momentary indulgence harm their health. That would be a truly regrettable loss.
Xia Yuan went on with her thoughts, directing Shitou to help Lu Yun prop up with pillows, set up the small bed table, and place the entire tray on it as if nothing had happened.
Lu Yun and Shitou, having been seen through by that meaningful glance of hers earlier, felt inexplicably guilty and were now exceptionally obedient, doing whatever they were told.
Once Lu Yun sat down and started eating, Xia Yuan gestured for Shitou to sit as well and casually asked the couple, "Have you decided on a name for Guaibao yet?"
"I’ve thought of quite a few, just haven’t discussed them with Xiaoyun yet. They’re all here; you pick one. Grandma said it doesn’t necessarily need to follow birth order," Shitou said quickly, pulling out a sheet of paper from the Space Stone.
Xia Yuan took it, saw that several names were densely written on it, and approached Lu Yun to look at it together, "These all seem fine, which one do you like?"
"Pei Yi—Yi, decisive, with unwavering ambition and determination. ’Confucius said: A gentleman should be resolute and strong, for his burden is heavy and the road is long.’ I quite like this one," Lu Yun spotted one and took a liking to it immediately.
"Pei Yi." Xia Yuan read it out and nodded, feeling it was a good choice.
"I also thought this one was good," Shitou agreed.
"Then it’s settled," Lu Yun decided.
