Chapter 399: Chapter 385: New Life
Lu Yun did not argue with Shitou’s words. They packed up that very night and returned to Yushu Village, first paying tribute to Chen Juxiang’s humble earthen grave with a stick of incense and a bunch of chrysanthemums as an offering.
Chen Juxiang’s grave was right next to her eldest son from the Su Family. At that time, the Su Family hastily buried her without even hiring anyone to do so, and it was only Su Lao-liu and the third eldest from the Su Family who casually dug a hole next to the grave of the eldest son and buried Chen Juxiang.
Since it was not suitable to erect a grave marker in the first year, Chen Juxiang’s grave didn’t even have a tombstone.
Not a single person from the Su Family bothered to inform Su Huahua.
Over the years, Su Huahua gradually stopped returning to Yushu Village, and when she did, no one paid her any attention. Su Lao-liu, the third eldest of the Su Family, along with He Damei, and Su Kai, hated no one more than Chen Juxiang, and the second most hated person was Su Huahua.
Of Chen Juxiang’s three children, her favorites were Su Huahua and the third eldest of the Su Family. As they grew in affection, naturally a son’s closeness to his mother could not compare to that of a daughter’s.
Relying on her mother’s favoritism, during the years when Chen Juxiang’s word was law in the family, Su Huahua strutted arrogantly for some time. The eldest of the Su Family held some genuine affection for her, but the equally favored third eldest actually disliked her a lot and even resented how Chen Juxiang always pampered her daughter behind the scenes.
In addition to this, Su Huahua’s relationship with He Damei was also very tense.
Su Huahua was the kind of person who could not stand to see her sisters-in-law in the family do well, and one of the things she loved to do was to stir up trouble among them in front of Chen Juxiang. As a result, Chen Juxiang was always nitpicking her daughters-in-law, finding fault in everything and constantly whittling them down.
In front of Chen Juxiang, He Damei did not even dare to show her dissatisfaction with Su Huahua. Though she appeared to tolerate her openly, in private, she intensely loathed Su Huahua.
After Chen Juxiang completely lost her status in the Su Family, He Damei, because she never abandoned the third eldest of the Su Family, gradually gained significant influence in the Su Family. Under her subtle guidance, the Su Family naturally remembered not only Su Huahua’s involvement in the rat poison incident but also that the root cause of everything—the death of the eldest Su Family son—was inextricably linked to her.
With this memory, it was impossible for the Su Family to treat Su Huahua with any kindness. The few times she returned to her family home, not to mention expecting to be treated as well as in the past with food and drink, she was not even offered a bowl of water and was instead shoved aside and scolded.
It would have been strange if Su Huahua still wished to return after such repeated treatment. This time, Chen Juxiang had hanged herself with a rope, and Su Huahua actually received the news but chose not to show up anyway.
After so much scheming, Chen Juxiang ended up deserted by all, abandoned by the daughter and youngest son she once doted on, as well as her grandson. Perhaps in death, being accompanied by her eldest son, who had always been foolishly filial to her, was not such a bad thing.
"Let’s go,"
Lu Yun turned around silently, her face expressionless. She had no intention of performing this mother and son tribute ever again in her lifetime.
"Alright,"
Shitou took one last look and finally arranged for someone to refurbish the graves privately. After all, one of those graves was of Lu Yun’s biological father, the eldest of the Su Family.
Previously, with members of the Su Family around, it was not appropriate for Lu Yun to intervene. But now that the Su Family had all left, and with Lu Yun grown up, married, and soon to have children of her own, it seemed improper to continue neglecting her biological father’s grave.
Of course, Shitou didn’t have the graves of the two built especially luxurious, just slightly better than ordinary ones.
Lu Yun soon learned of this and her expression remained indifferent as she said to Shitou, "That’s good, this can be considered the last bit of face we give them. From now on, I owe them nothing. I hope in the next life, and the lives to follow, we will have no entanglements, not even as passersby."
Shitou sighed inwardly, reached out to embrace her, and thought that although Lu Yun spoke as if she didn’t care, it actually showed that she still cared a little bit in her heart.
Lu Yun didn’t know what Shitou was thinking, and afterward, as if she had indeed put something behind her, truly and thoroughly distanced herself from the Su Family, without paying any attention to their affairs again.
Days passed by one by one in peace, each seemingly unchanged, yet change was everywhere.
First, when Lu Yun was over four months pregnant, they went on one final trip to the bottom of the sea to hand over the Cosmic Spaceship and the submarine, driving them with the invisible function activated to a secret base built somewhere in the South Sea.
Soon after, Shitou’s research institute’s new location was finally built, situated on a solitary island in the South Sea to which they received orders to relocate. The Dragon Squad under his command was to move as well.
The Dragon Squad was no longer called Dragon Squad. It officially merged with the security company affiliated with their guards and took the name "Tenglong Security Group Company." Shitou served as the general manager, which meant he would be even busier.
As Lu Yun’s due date approached, Shitou was worried he wouldn’t be able to take care of her. Plus, with the new research institute and Tenglong Group Company located in remote areas—despite having medical teams, and professional gynecologists and nurses—he still wasn’t at ease. He finally decided to send her back to Capital City to give birth.
One night, with Lu Yun not in the family residence and having no choice but to stay in his office, Shitou suddenly heard the ring of the phone in the early morning and jumped up to answer.
"It’s a boy, seven pounds six ounces, mother and son are safe and sound."
I have a son now.
On receiving the call, Shitou’s eyes instantly burst with an unusually bright radiance, and the urge to shout out loud with joy made him so excited he could barely hold the receiver, and he found himself unable to utter a word.
"Eh, why is there no sound? Don’t tell me you’re so happy you’ve gone dumb like you did back then?" Zhang Min muttered after not hearing Shitou speak for a while, then looked up at Pei Qingyuan, with the latter part of her remark meant for him.
"I suspect it’s pretty much the same," Pei Qingyuan chuckled.
"Grandma, is Xiaoyun alright? Wasn’t her due date ten days later? How did she suddenly give birth?"
Shitou, on the other end of the phone, finally got his emotions under control and couldn’t help but ask eagerly. In order to return for Lu Yun’s childbirth, he had been rushing to arrange his work in recent days, just so he could be there for her birth. Unexpectedly, he had still missed it.
"Since when are due dates ever that accurate? Don’t worry, Xiaoyun did so well that even the doctor was surprised. Your son is very considerate; she didn’t even go to the hospital. Wanting to use the restroom at home, she smoothly and straightforwardly gave birth to the child," Zhang Min laughed heartily, obviously very happy that Lu Yun’s first childbirth went so smoothly.
