Chapter 395: Chapter 381 Teacher Yan

Shitou, amiable?

Unable to resist, Feng Sijia stole another glance at the imposing Shitou, swallowed hard, looked at Lu Yun with a "you must be kidding" expression, and replied insincerely, "Yeah, I think that’s pretty good. As long as he’s good to you."

Anyway, that type of guy wasn’t her cup of tea. Whether he was serious or friendly didn’t really matter to her. But, based on her observations over the past couple of days, she noticed that although Shitou usually had a stern face towards others, it would soften involuntarily whenever he saw Lu Yun. So, she couldn’t say that Lu Yun was wrong.

"What type of guy do you like? Do you like ones who do research? Do you want me to have Shitou introduce you to someone? There are quite a few bachelors at his research institute," Lu Yun said with a smile.

"Researchers are not bad, my parents like someone with a proper job. I don’t really care, as long as he has a legitimate profession and isn’t too serious. I get nervous around people who are too stern. I think I prefer those who are tender and considerate when they smile, but my dad says such men are effeminate. My mom also says that tender, sweet-talking men are not necessarily good either, they may well be the same with other women."

Feng Sijia looked conflicted as she thought about how her parents strictly forbade her from dating during her school years. Then she suddenly remembered that Lu Yun was only eighteen and had gotten married during her school days too?? Her fleeting doubt made her close her mouth, considerately refraining from asking more.

"...Your parents make sense, but the most important thing is that you have to like him yourself," Lu Yun said, getting choked up.

"Alas, my parents think I’m too young to understand people, they’re afraid I’ll be deceived by a smooth-talking man, so they told me not to worry about it and just focus on my studies and not get distracted. When I’m old enough, they and my dad will help me screen candidates."

Feng Sijia said with frustration, "I always feel that my parents might not choose the type I like."

"Your parents are planning an arranged marriage for you, and you’re not planning to resist?" Lu Yun asked, shocked, turning to look at her with a mouth so wide open it could fit an egg.

"My mom was chosen for my dad by my grandparents. Back then, my dad was working in a different city, and my mom hadn’t even seen him in person before getting married; they just looked at a photo and decided to tie the knot. My mom says I’m her own daughter, our family isn’t poor, and she’s not planning to trade me for a dowry. She would only choose what’s best for me and not harm me."

Feng Sijia expressed her nonchalance with a casual look, "My parents say I’m too young to be discerning, this is one of those cases where not listening to the wisdom of the elders leads to immediate loss. I kind of think they might have a point."

Lu Yun hesitated for a long time, opened her mouth wanting to say something but couldn’t.

Shitou held her hand from the side, whispering, "Everyone has different views, don’t rush to conclusions about someone because of a few words from others. If she feels it’s acceptable, don’t interfere too much. Sometimes being a simple, obedient child is also a blessing."

"Does it sound unbelievable to you? I know some of my parents’ views are pretty outdated, but they do have my best interests at heart."

Feng Sijia started to laugh when she saw Lu Yun’s bewildered expression, "My mom also said that she and my dad don’t necessarily want to interfere with my marital freedom. A girl’s life can hinge on two instances of ’rebirth,’ and marriage is one of them. ’Men fear getting into the wrong profession; women fear marrying the wrong man.’ So one should be especially careful.

If I don’t like the person they choose for me, and I find someone I like, they won’t object. As long as that person can pass their tests. They really don’t want me to gamble my life’s happiness on a fit of pique.

You wouldn’t know, but my parents are very astute judges of character. They always say, ’Birds of a feather flock together; people are known by the company they keep,’ whether it’s finding a best friend or a boyfriend, you must always carefully keep your distance from people of bad character--

judging character is an artistry."

"At first, I thought my uncle and aunt were very feudal, but listening to the end, I feel they are actually quite wise, and pretty open-minded," Lu Yun suddenly felt fortunate that she had listened to Shitou’s advice and refrained from hastily disagreeing with anything earlier on.

"Hehe, if my mom and dad heard you say that, they would definitely like you. You’re the first person to talk about them that way," Feng Sijia giggled.

"That must be because the others didn’t listen to the whole story before. There is a saying, ’No one is more selfless than a parent’s heart.’ It’s true there are selfish parents in the world who make mistakes. But parents who devote themselves wholeheartedly to their children should not be completely negated," Lu Yun sighed.

"Exactly, my parents say that to be a person, you still need to have your own judgment and not just go along with what everyone says," Feng Sijia smiled happily.

Before long, the group entered the Lu Family’s old house. After a simple ceremony, Lu Yun led Feng Sijia upstairs.

The second floor of the Lu Family’s old house had been cleared out especially to make room for the newlyweds’ rest area. Shitou did not follow them upstairs. After giving a few instructions to Lu Yun, he left straight away.

As the maid of honor’s duty was to accompany the bride, Feng Sijia felt her pressure halved with Shitou gone and found herself being much livelier and more relaxed around Lu Yun.

Just after a couple of days, Lu Yun had already found that this person was actually quite a chatterbox—one that happened to be quite to her liking. At the very least, the two of them never had to worry about running out of topics to talk about.

Unconsciously, Lu Yun’s fondness for Feng Sijia grew by leaps and bounds, and their interaction became even more casual.

The two of them chatted about this and that for a while, until someone brought them two bowls of soup noodles.

While eating the noodles, Lu Yun recalled what Zhang Min had said about the need to drink the soup to show affection and couldn’t help but take a special glance at Feng Sijia’s noodle bowl. Seeing it was empty and clean, she laughed.

"What are you laughing at?"

Feng Sijia found Lu Yun’s laughter quite baffling.

"Shitou’s Grandmother says that people who eat noodles and finish the soup as well are affectionate and loyal," Lu Yun said with a smile as she spread Zhang Min’s theory.

"Ah, is that so? It’s the same as what my dad and grandma say?"

"Your dad and grandma say that too?" Lu Yun was extremely surprised.

"Yeah, when I was a kid, I always thought it was just an excuse they used to get me to finish the noodles in the bowl. So, older generations really have this saying?"

Feng Sijia and Lu Yun looked at each other, both unable to hold back their laughter.

As they were laughing, Xia Yuan knocked on the door and, without waiting for a response, pushed the door open and came in, followed by Feng Sijia’s mom and aunt.

"Teacher Yan?" Lu Yun looked toward the door and immediately stood up.
