Chapter 388: Chapter 374 Dry Heaving
"What does eating noodles and drinking soup have to do with being loyal and devoted?" Lu Yun was taken aback, unable to make the connection.
"It’s just an old saying, not really that miraculous. But finishing the noodles and drinking the soup is more nutritious, since most of the nutrition in pasta ends up in the soup," Shitou explained.
"Anyway, I’m glad I drank the soup, or Grandma would’ve thought I was heartless and ungrateful, right?" Lu Yun secretly rejoiced that she loved drinking noodle soup and decided that in the future, when eating noodles, especially at the Pei Family’s, even if she didn’t finish the noodles, she couldn’t leave the soup behind.
"It’s not that exaggerated," Shitou chuckled, "Even if you didn’t drink the soup, Grandma would definitely make up an excuse for you. Let me tell you, initially, Grandpa also didn’t like drinking noodle soup. Later, he noticed that Grandma always paid special attention to whether he drank the soup when eating noodles, so he changed his habit. And after he got the truth out of Grandma and understood her perspective, he began to always drink the soup when he had noodles."
"Ah? There’s a story behind this, too? So that counts?" Lu Yun paused, then buried her head in Shitou’s chest and laughed incessantly.
"How could it not count?" Shitou laughed along.
"I think Grandpa and Grandma are both so adorable. Grandpa must have loved Grandma very much when he was young, otherwise how could he have observed so carefully and changed his habits for her?"
After laughing enough, Lu Yun sighed. How easily can a person change their habits? If a man is willing to correct what he dislikes into something he "likes" for you, without showing it and sticking with it for a lifetime, what else can it be if not love?
"Grandma had Grandpa’s love, and you’re not lacking either. I will only love you more," Shitou held Lu Yun’s hand tightly and whispered softly, "Heaven doesn’t age, love never dies. The heart is like a net of fine silk, filled with countless knots."
"The heart is like a net of fine silk, filled with countless knots... I’m lucky that in this life, as soon as I was reborn, before I could even think clearly, I subconsciously reached out and caught you tightly."
Lu Yun’s face broke into a playful smile as she recalled how she had instinctively let down all her guards around Shitou shortly after being reborn. Acting faster than her brain could respond, her subconscious trust in him was even stronger than that towards her parents.
"Silly girl, you think you’ve caught me, but haven’t I also considered that it’s actually me who has caught you?" Shitou chuckled, "So, it should be that we’ve caught each other."
"Right, we’ve caught each other and so are destined to be tangled up for this lifetime." Lu Yun found a comfortable position in Shitou’s arms, then patted him, "Shitou, go to sleep already. Aren’t you tired?"
"I’m tired," Shitou laughed resignedly in the dark, bowed his head and gently kissed her forehead, then closed his eyes.
--
Waking up naturally next to your loved one is such a beautiful feeling.
When Lu Yun opened her eyes, she found Shitou holding a book, leaning back and flipping through it.
"You woke up so early," Lu Yun stretched and then leaned in to see what Shitou was reading. When she saw it was about military matters, she lost interest and pulled her head back.
"My biological clock has been set; even if I want to sleep in, I can’t," Shitou replied, placing a bookmark in the book, then closed it and put it away.
"That’s a pity," Lu Yun said without much genuine sympathy.
"Saying one thing but meaning another," Shitou pinched her cheek, "Hurry up and get out of bed. Grandma got up early to make scallion and egg pancakes. Grandpa, Uncle, Pei Kun, and their wives were all saying we brought them luck. They’re all so envious, eating and still thinking about taking some away, clamoring to pack a portion in their lunchboxes for noon."
"You actually spied on me? If you knew, you should’ve woken me up earlier."
Lu Yun quickly scrambled out of bed, having experienced the noodles her grandmother made the previous day, she was filled with anticipation for today’s shameless scramble over the egg pancakes everyone was eager to take for lunch, so she was quick and kept urging Shitou, who usually moved quickly but today was deliberately dragging his feet. She looked at him doubtfully, "You’re not in a hurry at all? Could it be that you already sneaked downstairs to eat some?"
"That wouldn’t be good, the egg pancakes have to be made fresh to be tasty, so Grandma didn’t let them succeed," Shitou said proudly, "Besides, it’s made for us in the first place, do you think we would miss out even if others do?"
"Right."
Lu Yun nodded then hurried him along, "Then you should also hurry up, intentionally dawdling around so that Grandpa, Grandma, Uncle, Pei Kun, Luoluo, and the others might think I’m oversleeping."
"But actually..."
Shitou grumbled, but seeing Lu Yun with arms akimbo and glaring at him, he quickly put on a smile, "Don’t worry, Grandpa, Uncle, Pei Kun, and your sister-in-law have already gone to work, they left a while ago, so you don’t have to worry about them laughing at you."
Lu Yun quickly checked the time, nine forty. She wailed, clutching her face. When had she become someone who could sleep in so much?
It was simply too embarrassing.
Unable to hold back his laughter, Shitou pulled her downstairs, pretending to comfort her as they walked, "Don’t worry, I can tell Grandma it wasn’t you who overslept, it was me. She knows I came back late last night, she’ll understand..."
"...I think it would be better if you didn’t say anything at all."
Lu Yun glanced at Shitou’s unabashedly smiling face and continued to cover her own, thinking to herself, he was clearly afraid that people wouldn’t notice his ’a guilty conscience is a self-accuser’.
"Okay, I’ll listen to you, say nothing—"
Shitou, whose face didn’t turn red at being caught, still smiled as he nodded, continuing to laugh while he did so. That smile was so annoying to Lu Yun that she became instantly frustrated, "Stop laughing, and don’t pull me, I can walk on my own."
"Alright, alright, don’t be angry, I won’t laugh."
Seeing Lu Yun’s annoyed expression, Shitou quickly restrained himself, holding back a laugh, but still didn’t let go of her hand, instead interlocking their fingers, and continued to lead her downstairs.
"You look a lot brighter and more spirited today."
Zhang Min looked up at Lu Yun, put down the knitting she was working on, and got up with a beaming smile, "You two keep an eye on Xinxin, I’ll go to the kitchen and get your breakfast."
"I’ll go too, having Shitou watch her here is enough." Lu Yun glanced at Little Xinxin sleeping sweetly in the cradle and whispered as she followed.
"Alright, today we have soy milk and egg pancakes; there are still a few pancakes ready-made. Just bring them out yourself and eat with Shitou first, I’ll make some fresh ones for you," Zhang Min said as she pulled Lu Yun towards the kitchen.
Mrs. Jin was busy preparing fish in the kitchen. As they entered and she smiled ready to greet them, Lu Yun’s complexion suddenly changed, feeling a wave of tumult in her chest and abdomen. She couldn’t control herself and pushed Zhang Min aside, running to the first-floor restroom and dry heaving into the sink.
