Chapter 378: Chapter 364: Making Up One’s Mind
"I knew you were amazing, I’m so glad you thought of it in time," Lu Yun leaned in and gave Shitou a peck.
Shitou felt a warm flush in his heart and looked at Lu Yun with a tinge of regret, "It’s just that we can’t keep all the things she left behind. We’ll have to surrender most of it to make our story more convincing."
"Even if we turn everything in, I have no complaints. Whatever you decide is fine with me," Lu Yun didn’t mind at all.
"We don’t need to give it all up, like the bearer bonds we can still keep a portion of, and we can also keep two of the planets. In the future, once our strength is sufficient and we are sure there are no problems, we can give one to each of our parents. How does that sound?" Shitou had actually anticipated Lu Yun’s response.
"Good. It seems being a pharmacist really is a profitable profession. We surely won’t have to worry about lacking interstellar credit points in the future."
Lu Yun’s smile deepened as she rubbed her cheek against his. "My parents will definitely be too happy to have such a great son-in-law. I wonder if your grandfather will think you’re favoring outsiders over your own family?"
"Who knows where he’s gone off to, isn’t your grandfather also my grandfather?" Shitou teased as he pinched Lu Yun’s nose, then added solemnly, "To me, only you and our children are the most important. The Lu family and the Pei family come next equally."
Lu Yun’s heart melted with sweetness as she couldn’t help but beam brightly.
Although she had always known she was the most important person in Shitou’s heart, knowing was one thing and hearing Shitou say it from time to time was another. Which woman wouldn’t want to hear sweet nothings from her man?
She was pleased, but also felt a bit shy, so she blushed, rubbed her arm, and hopped away while laughing, "You’re giving me goosebumps talking like that! How did you become so slick all of a sudden?"
No sooner had she finished speaking than she teleported away, leaving behind a trail of words, "Mm, but I quite like it, feel free to continue in the future. Now, you’d better get back to crafting a good story--it’s really tough, it can’t reveal our secrets, yet it has to be believable... oh, it’s so brain-racking, I think delving into the Pharmacopoeia is easier by far. So, take your time thinking, I won’t muddle things up for you."
"Running away just like that? Such a little heartless thing," Shitou chuckled teasingly.
...
By the time Shitou had finally crafted the "story," the two looked it over together, discussed it, and made several modifications until they both felt there were no loopholes and it was self-consistent. Then Shitou and Lu Yun entered the submarine to start figuring things out.
Having experience from learning to pilot a spaceship, Shitou found it much easier to get the hang of the submarine, by analogy.
Shitou picked up the controls quickly and began practicing in the spatial seas. Afterwards, he also taught Lu Yun hand by hand. The couple practiced in the space until they had both mastered the operation of the submarine.
"The space beneath the crevice isn’t big enough. I think we should go out first, then release the submarine in a more spacious area. What do you think?"
For safety, Lu Yun suggested, and Shitou had no objections after hearing her out. So dressed in protective gear, they held hands and swam out of the space, up to the crevice, and selected a sufficiently wide area to carefully check their surroundings before re-entering the space.
Once back in space, they removed their protective gear and sat directly in the submersible. With a thought from Lu Yun, the submersible appeared outside the space.
The two located the position of the spaceship, and quickly the submarine efficiently made its way to the side of the spaceship.
They returned to space directly with the submarine, changed into the protective gear, and set off for the Da’er Clan’s dwelling place.
Shitou and Lu Yun had resolved that it would be best to persuade the Da’er Clan members. Mutual joy would be the preferred outcome. But if that proved impossible, they would have no choice but to forcibly bring them into the space, risking the resentment and hatred of the Da’er Clan people.
The dwelling place of the Da’er Clan.
Upon receiving the news of their arrival, Yaluo, Bo Ya, Sizhi, and Dan Le personally ordered someone to notify Sa Duo, Pusi, Langjia, and Liya who had already returned from hunting. All of them rushed to greet them at the entrance.
The rest of the clan members, apart from Ba She and Geyi at the watchtower, retreated into their houses.
Having already considered pledging allegiance, everyone’s attitude this time was particularly respectful.
"Noble guests, have you returned so quickly because you have news of our master and the clan members?" Yaluo, looking hopeful and excited, was the one to speak first.
"Yes, we promised to inform you as soon as we found them, so we came over immediately," Shitou released the bodies of the people from the Space Stone, and both he and Lu Yun wore expressions of mourning, "Please accept our deepest condolences."
"These are indeed our master and the others—they really have encountered danger—"
After examining them one by one, Yaluo suddenly knelt on the ground, covered her mouth with her hands, and began to sob softly.
At the same time, the others also knelt down, each of them starting to weep loudly.
Through the windows of the houses around, people watched the scene, albeit vaguely, but they had mostly heard the news of the past two days. Based on mere conjecture, they could guess the cause of the crying outside, prompting them to start lamenting and crying within their homes.
Grief is contagious; in a moment, aside from Lu Yun and Shitou, the Da’er Clan’s dwelling was filled with the sound of weeping.
With everyone around them crying, Lu Yun and Shitou exchanged glances, finding the situation quite awkward. Not to mention they couldn’t cry, they wouldn’t shed a tear for a woman like Helen even if they could.
"May I ask where you noble guests found them?"
After a while, as emotions subsided and people supported each other to stand, everyone bowed deeply to Lu Yun and Shitou and then Bo Ya respectfully asked.
Bo Ya’s question made Yaluo, Sizhi, Dan Le, Ba She, Sa Duo, Pusi, Langjia, and Liya all look over, their eyes full of inquiry.
Lu Yun and Shitou were prepared and showed the 3D projection of the submarine trapped between two large stones that they had filmed underwater to everyone.
"Their submarine, for some reason, had fallen into a crevice at the bottom of the sea. We used the positioning system to determine the area, and it took a very long time to find their exact location. Sadly, at that time, they were actually not far from the spaceship, only about fifty nautical miles."
"Only fifty nautical miles away? How could it be?"
Expressions of shock, disbelief, and then deep sorrow, despair, and dismay appeared on the faces of Yaluo and the others...
