Chapter 363 - 351: Undersea Village
Chapter 363: Chapter 351: Undersea Village
Lu Yun pointed in a direction and quietly swam over with Shitou, and indeed, they saw a silhouette circling the spacecraft, examining something.
The two chased after the figure, and as the person ahead sensed their presence and turned around, their eyes met. The individual jerked as if greatly frightened and turned to swim away swiftly.
In that brief encounter, Shitou recognized the figure as a man in his forties. His overall appearance was very similar to that of humans on Earth, but there were still noticeable differences that one could discern at a glance.
His forehead was extremely protruding, and his ears were unusually large and round.
Shitou and Lu Yun pursued him and eventually managed to corner the man from both sides. Seeing no escape, the man froze, a look of despair in his eyes.
Unable to communicate verbally, and not trusting to bring the stranger directly onboard the spaceship, they stood facing each other, eye to eye. Shitou attempted to use hand gestures toward the man and then pointed at the spaceship, but the man did not respond.
He then tried using the interstellar common language in lip-reading and asked repeatedly, "Who are you, are you a crew member of the spacecraft?" But the man remained unresponsive.....
An awkward silence fell between the three of them.
Shitou, at a loss for what to do, looked at Lu Yun with a hint of helplessness in his eyes.
"How about we take him to the cave he just came out of?" Lu Yun suggested to Shitou.
Worried that the man might have accomplices, Shitou hesitated.
"Don’t worry, I’ll be careful," Lu Yun said with confidence, brandishing a dagger that she had taken from her space.
Shitou considered for a moment and then nodded. He gestured for Lu Yun to stay close by his side to lead the way. Then he gently pushed the man, clutching his wrist, and took out a dagger, making a throat-slitting gesture to hint that he should behave, and motioned for him to swim back.
Seeing the daggers in their hands, the man’s body shrank back, and he obediently allowed Shitou to pull him along with a resigned expression, swimming forward. However, when they reached the cave entrance, he did not enter voluntarily and continued to swim ahead as if intending to pass it.
Lu Yun couldn’t help but smirk, and quickly stopped Shitou, pointing at the cave entrance. Shitou sharply tugged at the man pointing to the cave entrance, and the man’s face turned ghostly pale as if he had seen a specter. His eyes filled with dread as he looked at Shitou.
Shitou extended his spiritual power into the cave and found that, although the entrance was visible, the interior was pitch black and impenetrable to his spiritual power.
Shitou dared not be careless. He signaled to Lu Yun to follow behind him as he became even more cautious, gripping the man’s wrist tightly and leading him in front.
Entering the cave, they were confronted by a huge stone slab standing upright like a screen across the entrance. Once they rounded the giant stone, the cavern suddenly appeared much more spacious, approximately a hundred square meters in size, with a long corridor that could accommodate four people walking abreast leading deeper inside.
Shitou stopped in his tracks, and Lu Yun halted as well. After looking around and feeling no threat, they both turned their gaze toward the corridor.
At that moment, once again they extended their spiritual power forward tentatively and immediately realized there were no obstructions. Unfortunately, the corridor was deep, and they could not see the end with their spiritual power.
Shitou looked at the man and saw that his trembling had intensified, his expression now that of ashen defeat.
Could it be that he had been threatened by other humans?
Unable to help himself from speculating, Shitou asked again in the interstellar common language, "Where does this lead?"
The man looked at Shitou with a blank expression.
Shitou sighed inwardly, "Great, probably another who can’t read lips."
While Shitou’s attention was on the passageway, Lu Yun was currently examining the huge rock that resembled a shadow screen.
She had confirmed that there was something strange here because she had just extended her spiritual power beyond the shadow screen towards the cave entrance and, sure enough, could not see the outside. She reached out to touch the giant rock, then leaned in for a closer look, and finally noticed a layer of coating on it that was not easily discernible to the naked eye.
It dawned on her that the only possibility was that the former owner of this space had applied the coating that blocked spiritual power, and she didn’t want to think any further. If that were indeed the case, then the person before her eyes was very likely a crew member from the spaceship, or a descendant of one.
She tugged at Shitou and pointed at the stone wall, sharing her speculation with him.
After listening to what she had said, Shitou nodded to show he understood.
Even if what lay ahead was a dragon’s lair and a tiger’s den, they had to brave it. Without further hesitation, Shitou gestured to Lu Yun to keep following him as he pointed toward the passageway ahead and made a gesture to be careful.
Lu Yun nodded and held onto Shitou’s sleeve, "Don’t worry, I’ll be careful."
She had made up her mind that if it came to a dire emergency, she would pull Shitou into her space— and if others not meant to enter did so anyway, she would have to harden her heart.
The three of them swam for about twenty minutes, winding through a series of caves both large and small until suddenly a building of moderate scale appeared before them.
An undersea city?
No, perhaps calling it the Undersea Village would be more appropriate.
Staring at the buildings enveloped under a large transparent dome, both Shitou and Lu Yun were astonished, their mouths agape, followed by overwhelming excitement.
Surrounding the Undersea Village was a wall that encircled the outer perimeter of the dome, constructed of unevenly sized sea-rock.
There was no gate; it seemed everyone swam directly over the wall to enter.
The two extended their spiritual power into the interior and discovered that opposite them, within the walls, there was a set of thick, transparent double glass doors. By seeing that the interior of the "village" was not infiltrated by seawater, one could guess that it probably functioned similarly to the emergency channels on the spaceship.
The place wasn’t really large; you could almost see the end at a glance. All the buildings put together amounted to only twenty or thirty complete houses. To call it a "village" might even be a bit of an exaggeration.
The two continued to use their spiritual power to inspect the houses and saw that the interiors either consisted of small individual rooms or large communal dormitories. Only the house right in the middle of the "village" looked somewhat normal, occupied by several elderly people who appeared extremely aged.
What was odd was that there weren’t many adult men in the "village"— most were either elderly or women and children, and thus it seemed to lack any combat power at a glance.
Whether inside the houses or on the streets, most people were busily engaged in orderly tasks, and even the slightly older children were no exception. Only the younger children were playing, chasing and laughing with each other.
The people’s appearances varied, but they all shared a distinct characteristic: prominent foreheads and large, round ears.
Unlike the thrilled Lu Yun and Shitou, the man whom Shitou was holding by the hand finally broke down and started crying uncontrollably.
As there was no sound, one could only see his tears falling in abundance as he opened his mouth, repeatedly shouting something.
