Chapter 359: Chapter 347 Inviting the Wolf into the House?
Chen Qiuyu bolted back to the café, first checking the time; then, without saying a word, she hurried into the changing room, changed her clothes quickly, and rushed out, her head down, clutching her belongings.
"What are you doing? Do you really want to quit?" Wang Yingxiong blocked Chen Qiuyu’s path.
"That’s right, I’m quitting. Isn’t that exactly what you wanted?"
A smirk curled at the corners of Chen Qiuyu’s mouth. She whirled her eyes, suddenly dropped her sarcasm, and ran over to Wang Yingxiong, hugging him and starting to cry.
"Brother Wang, you know I’ve offended Mrs. Lin. Even if Mrs. Lin isn’t pursuing it now, how can I know she won’t in the future? If the boss finds out, how could he possibly let me continue working here? He would probably not even want to see me. It’s better for me to leave on my own accord."
Wang Yingxiong stiffened and snorted, "You’re scared now?"
"Brother Wang, I was wrong. Please ask the finance department to settle my wages for this period." Chen Qiuyu wrapped her arms around Wang Yingxiong’s neck, rubbing softly against him, pleading in a pitiable voice, "I know you’re the best."
"I can’t decide that," Wang Yingxiong couldn’t help but cop a feel of Chen Qiuyu.
"Hmph, to think you’re the boss’s brother-in-law, and yet you can’t even handle this? Who would believe it?" Chen Qiuyu angrily pushed him away, only to see Wang Yingxiong’s face change and immediately draw him back with a coquettish laugh.
"Just this once, please. I’ll be sure to thank you properly afterwards. You know even if the boss found out, he wouldn’t say anything to you. Tomorrow I could still get the boss to agree to settle my wages. I’m just afraid of Mrs. Lin coming back tomorrow to make things difficult for me, so I don’t want to set foot in here ever again..."
"I’ll think about it," Wang Yingxiong hesitated, looking at Chen Qiuyu struggling with her gaze, as if what she said made sense.
"What are you still hesitating for? If you help me with this now, tonight at nine, I’ll wait for you in the little park at the corner after you get off work," Chen Qiuyu breathed against Wang Yingxiong’s neck.
"You’re not just leading me on, are you?"
"If you don’t believe me, forget it. It’s no big deal, I’ll just ask the boss to get it for me tomorrow. I don’t believe he would be so heartless as to deny me a little money after a relationship of a hundred days," Chen Qiuyu, annoyed, pushed him away and marched straight ahead.
"Alright, alright, I believe you," Wang Yingxiong, seeing that Chen Qiuyu was truly leaving, hurriedly followed her a few steps and pulled her back.
"Then you better not drag your feet. I still need to go back and get ready. Tonight, I won’t ask the boss; I’ll be waiting just for you," Chen Qiuyu gave Wang Yingxiong a flirtatious smile. He nearly drooled and nodded again and again.
With money in hand, Chen Qiuyu walked out the coffee shop’s main entrance, letting out a sneer, and hailed a taxi straight back to the "Golden Nest."
Checking the time, she hastily collected all her small but valuable jewelry and other such items, picked up two or three nicer outfits, wrapped the jewelry amongst them, and then rolled them up in an old garment, tucking it all at the very bottom of her luggage bag.
After packing these things, Chen Qiuyu forced herself not to look at her other nice clothes, thought for a moment, and then stripped off her current outfit to replace it with an ordinary one she had bought in N City.
...
Arriving at the Jiahua Grand Hotel entrance more than ten minutes early, Chen Qiuyu waited with her packed luggage in arms.
Right on time, Pei Kun and that young Mr. Wang pulled up next to her in their car and, without showing any surprise, said, "Get in."
"Oh, okay." Chen Qiuyu beamed, quickly getting into the backseat with her luggage. On the way, Pei Kun and Mr. Wang said nothing, and neither did Chen Qiuyu.
All the way to the airport, they bought tickets, and once on the plane and seated apart, there was even less to say.
Chen Qiuyu closed her eyes, sat in her own place, and finally let out a long breath. The success of the first step didn’t make her arrogant or complacent, rather it allowed her to calmly and carefully reflect—something seemed amiss.
When she suddenly relived her life and returned to Yushu Village, she was too presumptuous, thinking everything was just like in her previous life. Therefore, she didn’t bother to carefully inquire about the village news.
Thinking of what Pei Kun had mentioned about the Lu Group, which had already emerged ahead of time, her eyes narrowed.
Where exactly was the difference?
--
Capital City, Pei Family.
Even though it was late at night, knowing that Pei Kun was returning today, everyone gathered in the living room instead of going to bed.
Seeing Pei Kun enter, Ding Luoluo ran over and threw herself into his arms. "You’re finally back." Pei Kun caught her with a tender expression on his face.
The rest of the Pei Family came out to greet them and let out a round of good-natured laughter upon seeing the young couple. Ding Luoluo’s face, buried in Pei Kun’s chest, turned red, and she quickly struggled to get out.
"Don’t worry, they won’t make fun of you."
Pei Kun whispered by Ding Luoluo’s ear, delighted to know his wife missed him as much as he did her.
Naturally, the others could understand the young couple’s situation. Pei Kun had been away for months, and if the two had acted normally, that would have been more worrying. Therefore, everyone was understanding of Ding Luoluo’s reaction. However, when they saw Chen Qiuyu following Pei Kun, looking a bit timid, the expressions on each of their faces changed slightly.
"You bring someone home and don’t even inform us in advance. Who is this?" Zhang Min glared at Pei Kun.
"Oh, I almost forgot. This is Chen Qiuyu, from Yushu Village. She’s here to work as a nanny for our family. I made a call yesterday, and it seems we haven’t found a nanny yet?"
As soon as Pei Kun caught his grandmother’s eye, he couldn’t help but chuckle, knowing she had gotten the wrong idea. Trying not to laugh and fearing his wife might misunderstand, he quickly introduced her again.
Oh.
Everyone suddenly understood and breathed a sigh of relief. Then they laughed—Pei Kun was not one to act recklessly, so why had they all misunderstood just a moment ago? Probably because the nanny looked too pretty.
"Where did you find such a delicate and pretty girl to be a nanny?" Zhang Min scrutinized Chen Qiuyu with a sharp gaze, feeling intuitively that something was not quite right with her.
Ding Luoluo also looked at Pei Kun with questioning eyes, a woman’s intuition making her wary of beautiful women.
"It’s like this..."
Pei Kun hurriedly explained the whole situation, during which Chen Qiuyu politely greeted everyone very well-behaved.
Hearing about Chen Qiuyu’s tragic past, Ding Luoluo’s heart softened immediately. She turned to Zhang Min, "Grandma, let’s just let her stay and try it out. My maternity leave is almost over, and we don’t have anyone suitable for now. It’s always good to have someone to help you out."
Since Ding Luoluo had already said so, Zhang Min had no reason to refuse, and thus, she nodded lightly, "Well, let’s see if Xinxin will like her then."
