Chapter 354 - 342: Laughter

Chapter 354: Chapter 342: Laughter

Pei Qingyuan looked at Lu Yun with an embarrassed expression and burst into hearty laughter.

"Grandpa, Xiaoyun is thin-skinned, so stop teasing her or you may get in trouble with Grandma later," Shitou said, not able to watch any longer, and jumped out to defend Lu Yun.

"You little rascal... talking about how fat you are makes you pant, and now for your wife’s sake you dare to threaten even me, your grandfather. ’Getting a wife and forgetting your mother,’ that’s exactly what they’re talking about with you."

Pei Qingyuan muttered with a smile, and even Wen Sheng, who was driving, couldn’t help but crack up.

Lu Yun sneaked a peek at Shitou’s rugged face that had also turned red with embarrassment, and she couldn’t help but cover her face--whimpering, indeed the older the ginger, the hotter the spice; their level wasn’t high enough to beat them.

--

After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Pei Qingyuan eagerly moved on to the main topic, happily asking Lu Yun and Shitou to show off the two sections of 3D projection.

"These two little devils still have some good stuff hidden that they haven’t shown."

"Oh, what is it?"

"I don’t know, I haven’t even seen it myself," Pei Qingyuan rolled his eyes and barked at Shitou, "What are you waiting for? Hurry up and take it out."

Shitou laughed and took out all the items from the Space Stone that were taken from the spaceship, then introduced them one by one.

Pei Qingyuan wasn’t so interested in the rest, but he couldn’t take his eyes off those weapons. Once he grabbed them, he didn’t want to let go, "Do you guys know how to use all of these?"

"Grandpa, it’s just that this isn’t the right place to use them," Shitou said somewhat helplessly.

"Right, right, how did I get so excited and overlook that. Let’s hurry up and find a place to test their power," Pei Qingyuan was eager to try, almost wishing he could test the power of the weapons right away.

"Look here, Old Pei, don’t rush it, you’ve also got to let them explain the specifics first..."

"How can I not be anxious? Just having these things here is so tempting. Ah, what a lapse in judgment, I really shouldn’t have called you so hastily before..." Pei Qingyuan bemoaned without end.

Lu Yun and Shitou exchanged smiles, now they finally realized the side effects after using the Medicinal Bath Elixir. Not only did their physical vitality become younger, but even the person’s temperament began to revert back to youthfulness.

...

As expected, just like Shitou had predicted, after listening to Shitou’s detailed report, it was imperative to do their best to retrieve Lu Yun’s "master’s" remains and that submarine.

This task inevitably fell onto Shitou’s shoulders.

With Lu Yun and Shitou’s strong insistence and Lu Yun’s repeated assertions that it would not affect her elixir making, she was finally allowed to join Shitou in carrying out the mission together.

However, this mission was not like the usual ones. Just looking at the world mineral distribution map, it was clear that the areas Lu Yun’s "master" might have visited were far too wide-ranging, and seeking them out would definitely not be an overnight task.

Lu Yun had to accompany Shitou, and their safety was top priority; it needed to be foolproof. Plus, considering Shitou also had responsibilities at the research institute, it wasn’t appropriate for him to be away for an extended period.

In the end, they decided to put the task on hold. Shitou and Lu Yun would return to the research institute and wait for news. Once experts were gathered and had analyzed the world mineral distribution map, they would figure out how to divide the task into manageable parts, so that both could proceed without delay.

Afterwards, they went to test the weapons.

Seeing the smallest beam weapon effortlessly penetrate double layers of tank steel from five hundred meters away, Pei Qingyuan was so excited he could barely contain himself, almost tearing up.

Such results surprised everyone, yet it also seemed wholly anticipated.

"Come back home with me later. Xiaoyun’s parents have already returned to Yushu Village. Stay at our place tonight, and you can go back to the research institute tomorrow," Pei Qingyuan said to Shitou and Lu Yun after testing the weapons.

The two nodded.

Pei Family.

Zhang Min was thrilled to see Shitou and Lu Yun return so soon, constantly chattering away with endless questions.

Soon after, Shitou was whisked away to the study room by Pei Qingyuan with an excuse, leaving Lu Yun to join Zhang Min and Ding Luoluo in the drawing room for some flower tea. Little Xinxin lay sweetly asleep in her cradle.

Lu Yun presented Zhang Min with a pearl necklace, which felt cool and smooth to the touch. Under the light, the necklace shimmered with a rainbow of colors, dazzlingly beautiful and made even more precious by the sizeable, perfectly round pearls.

Chidingly, she said, "Such a string of pearls won’t come cheap. Why on earth did you buy this?"

"Grandma, Shitou and I actually picked these pearls from oysters in the sea ourselves, so it really didn’t cost any money at all," Lu Yun explained with a smile, and also handed Ding Luoluo a pearl bracelet. Even though its pearls were not as large as the ones on Zhang Min’s necklace, the luster was rainbow-like and dazzling, and the small pearls strung together instantly endeared the bracelet to her.

"I have one too? Thank you, sister-in-law. Mmm, I might consider leaving Grandma to hang out with you instead," Ding Luoluo joyfully looked at the bracelet, unable to put it down, and thanked Lu Yun graciously.

"You little gold-digger, don’t you regret it. My good stuff won’t include you anymore, then," Zhang Min protested immediately upon hearing Luoluo’s words, feigning a scowl to intimidate her.

"Grandma, I misspoke. They say you’re soft in the mouth and short of hand when you take from others. Having accepted sister-in-law’s generosity, the thought of depending on mine and Pei Kun’s salary is surely out of the question. So I have to butter up sister-in-law with a few nice words that don’t cost money, right? How could you take it seriously?" Ding Luoluo hurried to Zhang Min’s side and diplomatically flattered her, "You’re another major wealth deity in our family; how could I actually bear to abandon you? Without you, what would happen to Xinxin’s dowry... no, no, I mean, temporarily switching to sister-in-law’s side since we’ll spend more time together at home—an endless stretch of days ahead."

"No need to explain any further, the more you explain, the angrier I get," Zhang Min turned away in mock anger, though the corners of her mouth kept curving upwards in a smile.

Ding Luoluo looked pitifully at Lu Yun, "Sister-in-law, could you talk to Grandma for me? You have no idea how biased she’s been lately, doting on Xinxin while neglecting me. Otherwise, why would I say in front of her that I’m trying to get some attention back, right?"

Zhang Min laughed, "Ah, so you were waiting here for me? Aren’t you ashamed, getting jealous of your own daughter?"

All three could not keep from laughing, and soon peals of laughter mingled with the fragrance of flowers in the yard, carried away by the breeze, spreading ever farther.
