Chapter 351 - 339: The Key
Chapter 351: Chapter 339: The Key
The deeper they dove, the water pressure at the sea floor increased continuously, and gradually, the fish became scarcer. However, this had no effect whatsoever on Shitou and Lu Yun.
Their deep-sea protective suits not only shielded them from the cold at the sea bed, but could also allow them to dive to depths of about 20,000 meters without being affected by the pressure.
Halfway through, the two of them entered Lu Yun’s space to have some lunch and rest for a bit. They only reached their destination when it was past three in the afternoon.
Gazing at the colossal object before them, Lu Yun walked around it while Shitou cautiously extended his spiritual power, ensuring that there were no dangers nearby. He also confirmed the absence of any surveillance equipment like underwater cameras or camcorders before nodding at Lu Yun.
In the next instant, both of them appeared in the space.
"That’s right, I can confirm that this is indeed a Cosmic Spaceship," said Lu Yun as she took off her protective suit, her face flushed with excitement. "I can’t believe it, I really can’t believe this is true."
"Then is this the Cosmic Spaceship of the former owner of this space?" asked Shitou. This was important, as it related to whether they could easily enter the interior of the spaceship.
"I can’t tell at the moment. Most Cosmic Spaceships are actually constructed very similarly. Although there is a emblem on the hull of the ship, I didn’t see it because it’s too big and I was unable to spot the emblem just now," she said, somewhat embarrassed, and laughed it off. She took out a palm-sized square stone, "But it doesn’t matter, we just have to try this and we’ll know."
"What’s this?" Shitou curiously took the stone and examined it closely, but couldn’t figure it out.
"Emergency keys," Lu Yun said with a mysterious smile. "It’s actually meant for emergencies. Just place it into a specific slot and it will open the spaceship’s emergency hatch. Every custom-made spaceship in advanced civilizations has such an emergency hatch.
The location of the emergency hatch is a secret for each spaceship, generally only known to the original owner. Even the shape of these keys is set arbitrarily by the ship’s owner, and the lock’s location is extremely hidden. An outsider would find it very difficult to find it in a short period of time."
"So, does that mean if someone knows the location of the keyhole and emergency hatch, and made a stone of the exact same shape, anyone could open the spaceship?" asked Shitou, intrigued.
"Of course not. Don’t be fooled by its ordinary appearance, this stone is irreplicable, containing a special chip that can only correspond to this spaceship. Even if spaceships are made by the same manufacturer and the keys have the same shape, they cannot open each other’s locks," she explained.
Lu Yun gave Shitou a strange look, not understanding why he would ask such a silly question.
Shitou felt slightly embarrassed under Lu Yun’s gaze; after all, aside from its exact angles, the stone seemed utterly ordinary to him.
Lu Yun could hardly contain her mirth. "If we can confirm that this is indeed the former owner’s Cosmic Spaceship, then we can just touch the outer shield with this key to open a small gap, allowing us to pass through successfully. Let’s go out and see."
Having donned their protective gear, the two exited the space. Lu Yun quickly found the emergency hatch based on information she’d previously received. As she observed the nearby area, she indeed spotted a square slot that matched the emergency key in her hand.
They exchanged a look, both faces brimming with surprise.
Carefully holding the key, Lu Yun reached forward, and—as expected—the protective shield of the spaceship swiftly opened, creating a small gap. Once the gap was large enough to pass through, she quickly signaled to Shitou. They went through the shield, one after the other. She then retracted the key, and the shield promptly began to close at the same speed.
With their confidence surging, Lu Yun inserted the key into the lock and the spaceship’s emergency hatch opened. As the two entered, Lu Yun used her spiritual power to retract the key and the hatch closed behind them.
As the hatch sealed, Lu Yun and Shitou noticed that the seawater that had followed them in was being expelled, and lights suddenly brightened around them.
Looking around, they found themselves in a large, sealed-off room with another heavy sealed door not far ahead. They proceeded through the sealed door and down a narrow corridor, which led to another sealed door. After opening the door and walking a short distance, they entered another slightly smaller room.
This room was lined with rows of neatly arranged spacesuits, totaling about two or three dozen.
After Shitou extended his spiritual power for a while and retracted it, he nodded at Lu Yun, signaling it was safe. For extra caution, Lu Yun released a wild chicken to see if it showed any signs of distress. Seeing that the chicken was hopping energetically, they confirmed it was safe and so, they retracted the chicken and took off their deep-sea protective suits.
Lu Yun saw Shitou curiously examining the spacesuits and glanced at them too, "We have some in the space as well, but only three suits, probably for emergencies."
She then pressed a button on one side, and a holographic, athletically built, handsome man suddenly appeared, starting to coolly teach them—in the universal language of space—how to wear and use these spacesuits. He was very meticulous, patiently repeating the instructions and precautions at least three times.
After watching once, Shitou turned off the tutorial and tried the suits on for himself. He then helped Lu Yun try one on before choosing and storing three suits in his personal storage.
"Let’s have a look around," Shitou suggested.
He took the lead, and together with Lu Yun, they toured the entire Cosmic Spaceship. The lights were motion-sensitive, automatically lighting up when someone approached and turning off after they passed.
The spaceship was an oval spheroid divided into five distinct levels, including the control room, energy reserves, armory, escape pods, storage area, agricultural area, dining area, leisure and entertainment area, and living quarters...
They traversed every part, up and down, and even used their spiritual power to carefully search two or three times over, finally confirming that there were no other survivors on the ship.
The two then headed to the control room. Both adept in the universal language and script, and guided by the information Lu Yun had previously absorbed, Shitou began to fiddle with an array of sophisticated instruments before him.
Despite Shitou’s high talent and photographic memory, allowing him to learn new things quickly, under Lu Yun’s guidance—who had only received information without ever seeing the actual instruments or having operated them—they still struggled to find their way around for a long time.
It was like someone had read a book about how to pilot an airplane but had never seen the actual aircraft or handled the controls, expecting to be able to fly the plane straight away, which was virtually an impossible fantasy.
