Chapter 336: Chapter 324 Return to Capital City
"Where are you heading that has you so happy?" Shitou’s question came to an abrupt halt, and for a moment, he seemed to have been left staring in astonishment.
In front of them was an enormous room, filled as far as the eye could see with row upon row of neatly arranged shelves, each one reaching up to the ceiling.
And each shelf was piled high with elixirs.
"So many?" Shitou looked at Lu Yun, puzzled, his eyes conveying his confusion.
"That’s not all, this is just one of the rooms. There are several hundred rooms like this one here, and about twenty or thirty are already completely filled," said Lu Yun, looking at him with pride, as if she was fishing for compliments.
"They’re made by the Plant Clan. How did they manage to become useful so quickly?"
Shitou couldn’t help but reach out and pat Lu Yun’s head, a spark of realization in his eyes as he confidently deduced.
"Very clever, I can’t hide anything from you. I was surprised too. The Plant Clan has proved more useful than I had anticipated."
Lu Yun giggled and led him directly to the place where the Plant Clan was making the elixirs for a visit. Both of them stood in the air, clearly observing everything happening below them.
Even Shitou, who considered himself well-informed, was astounded.
Seeing Shitou’s shocked expression, a few strands of satisfaction shone through her eyes, uttering boastfully, "Not bad, eh?"
"It’s more than just ’not bad.’"
What Shitou saw were more than twenty thousand members of the Plant Clan, all dressed in green robes and with green skin, congregated in one place. About half of them had alchemy furnaces before them, each one making elixirs. The other half assisted them.
Standing beside those engrossed in elixir-making were not many, their eyes fixed on the alchemy furnaces, indicative of their learning.
Meanwhile, even more clan members bustled about non-stop, pushing small carts. They were busy and well-organized, either delivering ingredients non-stop to various places or collecting the finished elixirs to pile on the carts.
Despite the abundance of people, there wasn’t any superfluous noise at the scene; everyone was focused on their respective tasks...
Both had concealed their presence, so neither their arrival nor their departure was detected by any of the Plant Clan members.
"Why not separate them? If I’m not mistaken, making elixirs requires undivided attention, doesn’t it? Wouldn’t their success rate be higher if they worked individually?"
Even after leaving the place where thousands were making elixirs together, Shitou still hadn’t recovered from his shock and asked perplexedly.
"It’s not a problem. The previous owners of this space also had them make elixirs like this. At their peak, the Plant Clan had hundreds of thousands of talented members, even spreading them across several sites wouldn’t diminish their numbers, which were far greater than now, almost unimaginable."
Having checked previously, Lu Yun was naturally aware that the ancestors of these Plant Clan members also gathered in one place to make elixirs, so she gave Shitou a detailed explanation.
"Once they start alchemy, they become incredibly focused. It makes no difference whether they are alone or in a group. Moreover, by working together, they use fewer people, and thus, the efficiency is higher."
"I see," Shitou said, enlightened, and also felt more joy. "Does this mean that from now on, you can devote your time to researching new elixirs and cultivating spiritual power?"
"Absolutely," Lu Yun replied happily. "Actually, those Plant Clan members you saw pushing carts and doing odd jobs have no talent for alchemy. And those standing by, those are the ones with lesser talent, who need more time to learn.
So, in a while, once those observers can independently make elixirs, the amount they produce each time will be even greater. With their help, it won’t be long before we can easily supply gene elixirs for medicinal baths to the entire nation."
However, the reason they can independently make these elixirs now is that they are still of the inferior grade. Once they begin making gene elixirs, they’ll only be able to make intermediates. But even so, this can still greatly shorten my time."
The speed of the Plant Clan members making elixirs alone cannot begin to compare with Lu Yun.
Individually, Lu Yun might match a hundred of them, and the quality of the elixirs she made was also higher than those made by the Plant Clan. But the Plant Clan’s strength lay in their numbers, and that was something Lu Yun could not match.
Moreover, because Lu Yun pursued the path of a pharmacist, it was impossible for her to spend all her time on these inferior-grade elixirs; she needed to invest most of her effort in researching and trying to make new elixirs, as well as culturing her spiritual power.
Even though her Psychic Power Talent was extremely high and her cultivation speed was fast, with her attention divided like this, she couldn’t even manage to train in Physical Art and spiritual power simultaneously.
"That’s good enough. One can’t be too greedy," Shitou spoke, having already learned about the limitations of the Plant Clan from Lu Yun. They were quick learners when it came to inferior-grade elixirs and could independently make them in large quantities with a high success rate. Unfortunately, that was as far as they would go; they couldn’t learn more advanced alchemy, lacking any growth potential.
"I think so too. One can’t be too greedy, moderation is key, I understand," Lu Yun nodded in agreement.
"I’m just worried that having received something, you might become fixated on not being able to have more. As long as you don’t get hung up on it, I’ll be relieved," Shitou said as he stroked her hair, feeling a weight lifted from his heart.
Lu Yun simply smiled at Shitou, "No worries, I have you, don’t I? If I do get hung up on something, you’ll just pull me out, right?"
"If only it were that easy. Those who truly get stuck in their ways often find that even those around them struggle with them; they usually can’t get out until they’ve worked things out for themselves," Shitou said with a hint of helplessness in his smile.
Several days of calm and uneventful time passed, and one evening, Shitou burst into the house, excitedly saying to Lu Yun, "Pack up, we’re returning to the Capital tomorrow."
"We’re leaving so soon? What about Su Qiaoling, Wen Shan, and those guards in the shadows? Most of them haven’t finished their medicinal baths yet," Lu Yun initially rejoiced and then began to worry.
"The higher-ups have considered this. The elixirs for medicinal baths are too precious to be wasted, so the people who haven’t completed their baths will not be scheduled to leave. We’ll just take those who have finished their baths with us."
Shitou promptly addressed Lu Yun’s concerns, "Staffing isn’t an issue this time either. We’ll temporarily assign some of the best members from our Dragon Squad to work with them..."
