Chapter 333 - 321 Sudden Enlightenment

Chapter 333: Chapter 321 Sudden Enlightenment

Lu Yun was startled, the term "sudden enlightenment" rapidly entered her mind.

She dared not disturb him any further, quietly she laid a Psychic Power Barrier around him to prevent anyone from carelessly appearing and inadvertently interrupting this tremendous opportunity.

To call sudden enlightenment a tremendous opportunity wasn’t an exaggeration at all.

You see, enlightenment is something you could encounter but not seek. Whether it was for cultivators of spiritual power or for those practicing Physical Art, enlightenment was extremely rare, and many would not have the chance to experience it in their lifetime.

And often, the most impressive effect of enlightenment wasn’t the advancement of one’s Cultivation Level by one or two grades in one go, but that those who had undergone enlightenment found it easier to break through the barriers at each progressive stage when cultivating again...

Every cultivator must face these barriers when advancing, and they inspire both love and hate.

What endears them is the fact that facing these barriers signifies an impending level up, and once broken through, their strength improves by leaps and bounds.

But the hatred stems from the barriers being far from easy to break. Many people would be halted by a barrier at a certain level for a lifetime, as the barrier seemed like an insurmountable heavenly rift, preventing them from progressing further on the path to becoming stronger--

Everyone’s experience of sudden enlightenment differed in terms of location and duration, sometimes a few minutes, other times a few days.

No matter how long it took, in such a pressing situation everything else could wait, and Lu Yun would not allow anyone to disturb Shitou’s enlightenment under any circumstances.

Seeing that Shitou wouldn’t snap out of his state of enlightenment anytime soon, Lu Yun naturally retrieved a cushion to sit on guard at the side, immersing her mind in the Pharmacopoeia within her space, contemplating new elixirs.

Time ticked by second by second, and before they knew it, daylight had filled the sky, well past the usual time Shitou and Lu Yun went out.

This abnormal situation quickly attracted the attention of the W Guard secretly protecting them, as well as Zhan Hongtao, Zhuang Jun, Su Qiaoling, and Wen Shan. All four rushed to the pair’s doorstep and, seeing no sign of movement, exchanged anxious glances. Before Zhan Hongtao could knock, the door swung open.

"Come in and we’ll talk," Lu Yun said calmly.

With her face exuding tranquility, she waited for all four to enter. After Su Qiaoling, the last to come in, closed the door, Lu Yun smiled, "It’s not a bad thing. Shitou suddenly had an enlightenment last night."

Lu Yun briefly explained the benefits of enlightenment, and immediately the four’s worry turned to joy.

Zhan Hongtao asked anxiously, "Thank heavens, we were scared stiff just now... it’s a relief that nothing’s wrong. I’ll go tell the others to ensure no one will come to disturb the boss."

"Hmm, it’s hard to say how long it will take, and we should wait for him to wake up on his own..."

"Sister-in-law, don’t worry, why don’t you eat something first and then go rest a bit? We four can take turns keeping watch," said Zhan Hongtao, noticing that Lu Yun had stayed awake all night.

"Just bring me some simple meals for my three daily servings; I’m not tired. You all don’t need to stay. If you’re going to take turns, wait until the evening. We can talk again if Shitou hasn’t woken up on his own."

Lu Yun shook her head, immediately rejecting their offer to keep vigil by her side. Her presence alone was sufficient.

"How can we leave you to fend for yourself?" Zhan Hongtao pressed on, looking at Lu Yun’s bloodshot eyes.

"I can cultivate my spiritual power on the side. Just one circulation of the heavenly cycle will be enough for recovery, so sleeping or not sleeping makes no difference at all."

Yesterday evening, she was preoccupied with monitoring Shitou’s condition and because it was night, she was a bit worried something might go wrong, so she did not practice her spiritual power.

But now that the four people before her were aware of Shitou’s current situation, the other guards would surely pay special attention to prevention, so it should be alright for her to do a cycle of cultivation soon.

After hearing Lu Yun’s words, the four exchanged glances and could only nod their heads, then they left.

A moment later, Su Qiaoling brought in a bowl of plain congee and a plate of salted duck eggs that had already been peeled and cut.

Throughout the whole day, Lu Yun did not leave Shitou’s side for even a step. When it was time to eat, someone would hand her food, and she was unwilling to step away even when eating.

Whenever she was really sleepy, she would practice a cycle of spiritual power, and spent the rest of her time studying the Pharmacopoeia.

In the evening, Su Qiaoling, Wen Shan, Zhan Hongtao, and Zhuang Jun took turns keeping watch. She did not bother to deal with them; seeing her insistence on staying by Shitou’s side, they did not dare to persuade her further, fearing their voices might disturb Shitou.

The next day, just past ten in the morning, Shitou finally regained consciousness.

"How do you feel?" Lu Yun had long since been unable to keep up with Shitou’s advancement in spiritual power because he cultivated at a pace she simply could not follow. Their levels of cultivation had become farther and farther apart.

"I’ve risen three grades," Shitou said with a smile. Upon waking, he had no idea that he had encountered such a great opportunity, so he was in an exceptionally good mood. Then, noticing the daylight, he asked, "Has it just been one night?"

"One day and two nights, it’s been two nights."

Lu Yun couldn’t help but cover her mouth as she yawned. She looked at her watch, "I’m so sleepy, I’m going to get some proper sleep now. You can go down later and let them know," she said.

After speaking, Lu Yun didn’t wait for Shitou’s perplexed reaction before leaving a big bowl of pumpkin and millet porridge, two plates of green vegetables, and a large plate of soy-braised beef on the dining table. "Eat slowly," she said.

Without waiting for Shitou’s response, she went to her room, threw off her coat, flopped onto the bed, and let out a comfortable sigh into the soft pillow and blanket, falling asleep in less than a minute.

Shitou followed her into the room, unnoticed, and looking at Lu Yun like this, his eyes filled with deep concern.

Everyone had underestimated the cunning of the fugitive that had escaped.

The criminal, whom they had assumed would be swiftly apprehended, was still at large by the time the lotus flowers transplanted to Lu Yun’s balcony from the family compound’s pond had blossomed, and indeed, the pond was now home to plump fish. As everyone started wearing light summery clothes, there was still no news of his capture.

It was as if he had disappeared like a small bubble tossed into the ocean, leaving no trace however hard they searched.

The more this went on, the more tense the guards around Lu Yun became, everyone’s nerves on edge, deeply afraid a moment of carelessness could lead to an irreversible mistake.

Amidst the tension, they were relieved to have a protectee as undemanding as Lu Yun.

In everyone’s eyes, Lu Yun’s daily life was practically reclusive.

She hardly ever left for the county town, and her life seemed exceedingly dull and flavorless. Her hobbies were quite unusual; her favorite things were those wild vegetables that everyone in the family compound looked down upon — ubiquitous throughout the hills.
