Chapter 249: Chapter 241: Picking Up from the Airport (Part 2)
"Auntie Xiaoyun, a driver will take you back to the villa to freshen up first. I need to stay here to wait for my aunt and her family; they’ll arrive at four-thirty," Lu Jinsheng earnestly said to Lu Aimei.
"Then we’ll go to the villa with the driver first," Lu Aijiao, holding back Lu Aimei who still wanted to speak, called out. The group thus headed out of the airport. Xu Liang and several drivers who were standing by also quickly followed to help.
Lu Jinsheng naturally followed and eventually saw the families into three separate cars, watching them drive off. Then, he returned to the airport with Xu Liang and one of the drivers, entering the airport’s restaurant.
Xu Liang took the initiative to buy juice and pastries for the three of them, which was something Lu Aiguo had specifically given him money for and instructed him to do before they left.
In Lu Aijiao’s group, it wasn’t their first visit to Capital City. Lu Yun and her family had come during summer vacation in the year she started university and had stayed for more than half a month before leaving.
During that time, they stayed at the same villa they were going to now.
So the scenery along the way was all familiar.
Everything in the villa was as usual, not only were the rooms they had stayed in last time kept the same for them. The steward, chef, and two maids inside the villa hadn’t changed either.
The villa was big enough for the three families, a total of twelve people including adults and children. Some went back to their rooms to catch up on sleep while others found the game room, home theater, library, or gym to entertain themselves...
--
The flight was delayed, and it wasn’t until five-fifteen that Lu Jinsheng finally welcomed Aunt Xia Na’s family. Xia Na, Gu Tianming, and Gu Feng, and Gu Meng were all surprised to see him there to pick them up.
Since it was getting late, they couldn’t afford to ask too many questions. Several people got into two cars. Lu Jinsheng, fearing that his aunt might ask questions along the way, chose to ride in the same car as his two cousins. On the road, when faced with the questioning of his cousins, he dodged and weaved, talking in circles—it somehow got them through the ride.
When they finally arrived at the villa, Lu Jinsheng found that his grandparents and parents had already arrived, and he let out a big sigh of relief—it had not been easy. He still didn’t quite understand what he was supposed to say and what not to say. Now, finally, he didn’t need to explain anything anymore.
His second uncle and second aunt, Lu Aiguo, Xia Yuan, Shitou, and Lu Yun arrived just a short while later.
Seeing his second uncle and aunt, Xia Na and Gu Tianming were shocked.
After a round of greetings, Xia Na exclaimed, "My dear in-laws, you’re truly getting younger with age."
Hehe.
The wife of the second uncle beamed, "They say happiness is the best cosmetic. We haven’t had much to worry about over the years, naturally becoming younger. It’s just a change of hair color, and I feel I’ve rejuvenated by twenty years."
When they had just arrived a while ago, Lu Aijiao and a few others had asked the same question and had been lightly dismissed with the same response from the second uncle’s wife: "Dyeing our hair makes us twenty years younger."
This response could buy time with outsiders who hadn’t seen them in a while, but fooling their own children was a bit harder. Yet, with everyone from the second uncle to Lu Aiguo and Xia Yuan unanimously saying the same thing, they couldn’t help but believe it.
However, before they could argue their points further, Lu Jinsheng finally arrived with Xia Na and her entourage, and the topic was abruptly dropped.
"This is indeed a blessing for your two elders, and it’s also my sister’s good fortune to marry into your family." Xia Na’s family truly hadn’t seen the second Uncle Lu and his wife for many years, so they naturally took her words at face value when she said this.
Afterward, Xia Na and her family put their luggage in the rooms that had been arranged for them ahead of time, freshened up a bit, and then everyone headed to the dining room together.
This time, Lu Aijiao, Lu Aimei, Lu Aibing, and Xia Na had their entire families present, which, together with the second Uncle Lu, his wife, Lu Aiguo’s own family, and Shitou, totaled twenty-three people.
With so many people, they eventually split into a large and a smaller round table for seating. Except for Shitou and Lu Yun, the younger generation was ushered to the slightly smaller table.
"What exactly happened with Shitou finding his family? And when did he and Xiaoyun become an item?" This time it was Lu Aijiao who started the questioning, directed at Lu Aiguo.
That rascal Lu Jinsheng, really, just dropped a bomb and that was that. It made them wildly speculate all the way, guessing with no conclusion; it was truly agonizing.
"Ahem, this is a rather long story—" Lu Aiguo cleared his throat, ready to recount the events slowly, but before he could get far, Lu Aimei, growing impatient, cut him off, "I mean—can you give us a brief overview first, then go back and explain the details later?"
"Uh?" Lu Aiguo almost choked on his soup and everyone couldn’t help but laugh.
"Let me do it," said the second Uncle Lu’s wife with a smile, quickly summarizing the events before returning to elaborate on the key points.
The meal lasted over two hours before everyone dispersed. If it weren’t for the second Uncle Lu and his wife needing to return to the courtyard house for a herbal bath, Lu Aiguo and the others would probably have stayed to chat more, and might even have considered spending the night.
--
"Regarding what Aiguo and Xia Yuan suggested today about the two of us staying behind, what do you think, old man?" Late at night, while soaking in the medicinal bath, the second Uncle Lu’s wife suddenly sighed and asked the second Uncle Lu.
Taking a herbal bath was quite a torturous affair. Although it would leave one feeling refreshed the next day, the process was indeed painful, so the couple often chatted continuously to distract themselves.
"Then let’s stay behind." The second Uncle Lu replied almost without hesitation, "We used to think we wouldn’t live many more years anyway, so we wanted to go back to Yushu Village to pass the time and just see out our days."
"But now it’s different. Are we supposed to loiter for hundreds of years? I am thinking we need to find something to do, but I just don’t know what yet," he continued.
"Exactly, if we don’t find something to do, we will indeed be bored to death. But what should we do? This really needs to be carefully considered," the second Uncle Lu’s wife said, frowning along with him as they both fell into deep thought, yet coming up with nothing.
However, what the second Uncle Lu was thinking about was not what to do in the future; he was still pondering the encounter with the government leader they had met that afternoon.
The leader had met with them for only a short half hour, not saying much specifically. It was afterward that Shitou’s grandfather accompanied them back to the courtyard house and told them everything that could be said.
