Chapter 248: Chapter 240: Picking Up from the Airport (Part 1)

"The head of state wants to meet just a few of us?"

In the study of the Lu Family, Lu Aiguo suddenly stood up, breathlessly asking for confirmation from Shitou.

The presence of Lu’s second uncle and his wife, as well as Xia Yuan and Lu Yun, also couldn’t help but become excited.

"Yes, but it’s a secret meeting. It’s scheduled for this afternoon at two thirty, and a car will come here in advance to pick us up. I’ll be joining you too," Shitou nodded.

"But at that time, we’re supposed to be picking someone up at the airport," Xia Yuan was taken aback.

"That’s not a problem. Due to the urgency, sending someone else for the pickup will be just fine; after all, we’re all family and they should understand. Your mother and I will explain to them afterward," Lu Aiguo assured.

Lu’s second uncle contemplated for a while, "Since it’s a secret meeting, it’s not suitable for too many people to know. We can just say it happened to coincide with Shitou finding his family... What do you think?"

"Good." Everyone looked at each other and agreed with the reasoning, nodding in unison.

"Dad, I think it’s best to send Xu Liang with Jinsheng to the airport on our behalf. If we explain it like that, they’ll find it easier to accept," Lu Aiguo suggested.

"Will Jinsheng blab?" Lu’s second uncle hesitated.

"How would Jinsheng know what we’re doing if we don’t tell him?" Lu Aiguo laughed.

"That’s true, my bad," Lu’s second uncle laughed along.

"I think if we add in the part about Xiaoyun and Shitou’s upcoming engagement when Jinsheng tells them, they won’t have the time to think too much about anything else."

Lu’s second aunt offered her "sneaky" idea with glee. Jinsheng was young, and his knowledge was limited; they just had to instruct him on a few things not to mention. With their curiosity drawn to those details, by the time they met again, would they even remember to ask what had happened in the meantime?

"Hahaha, mom’s idea is the best, let’s do that," Lu Aiguo chuckled, unable to help himself.

"Honey, pinch me quick, am I dreaming?" Lu Aiguo laughed until it turned into a goofy grin. Meeting the nation’s top leader? That was something he wouldn’t even dare to dream of in his lifetime, yet now it was becoming a reality?

"Does it hurt?"

Xia Yuan pinched him hard, then asked expectantly.

Lu Aiguo almost jumped up, grimacing as he whimpered, "Wife, there was no need to be so rough, ow, it really hurts—"

Everyone couldn’t help but suppress their laughter at his comical behavior.

"If I hadn’t used some force, how would you feel the pain? Xia Yuan, is your hand okay? His skin is tough; I hope it didn’t hurt your hand instead..." Lu’s second aunt asked with feigned concern.

"Mom, don’t worry, my hand doesn’t hurt." Xia Yuan couldn’t stop laughing, provocatively glaring at Lu Aiguo as she did so.

"Mom, who’s your child here, me or your son-in-law?" Lu Aiguo gritted his teeth with a click-click sound, throwing her a look that said ’we’ll settle this later,’ then turned to Lu’s second aunt with a look of sorrow.

"Go on, stop making that face. Your daughter and son-in-law are watching. You have to set a good example, you know?" Lu’s second aunt chided with a laugh.

"We didn’t see anything, and we didn’t hear anything," Shitou and Lu Yun said in unison, shaking their heads. Just kidding, they were the younger generation; not getting involved and just watching the excitement was the "safest" approach.

"Enough with the wisecracks, let’s have Shitou tell us what’s actually going on," Second Uncle Lu tapped his smoking pipe and asked.

Suddenly, everyone fell silent, their gazes uniformly turned towards Shitou.

A smile crept onto Shitou’s face. The scene from that morning when Grandpa and the leader were haggling with each other, almost slapping the table, was still vivid before his eyes. It was so funny that anyone who saw it would’ve been in stitches; even he had almost burst out laughing at the time.

He really hadn’t expected that Grandpa, just a businessman, would have such a special status, seemingly different from what he had imagined.

Of course, these weren’t things he could say in front of everyone. Hmm, there would be a chance to share these thoughts with Xiaoyun later in private--

"There’s no specific outcome yet, at least not when I left; they were still discussing it. But the Chairman took it very seriously after listening," he said.

How could he not take it seriously? A meeting that was supposed to last only forty minutes ended up canceling the whole day’s schedule, even the lunch and afternoon times were allocated to Grandpa. Probably because both of them found him to be an eyesore, so they sent him away first.

"Grandpa always said to compartmentalize things. We must strive to secure our own benefits. However, this matter probably shouldn’t be leaked any further for the time being," Shitou said, his expression turning serious as he looked at everyone’s faces.

"You don’t need to tell us that," Aiguo quickly replied. Second Uncle Lu nodded as well, sometimes it’s not necessarily a good thing to know too much about secret matters.

Afterwards, they arranged for Jinsheng to be driven by Xu Liang directly to the airport around 1:30 PM to pick up someone on their behalf.

At 1:40 PM, as expected, a private car arrived at the courtyard to pick up the Lu Family members.

--

Meanwhile, at Capital City Airport.

Lu Aijiao, Lu Aimei, Lu Aibing, and the others looked around as soon as they disembarked, only to find that the only person who had come to pick them up was the young Lu Jinsheng. They were all perplexed.

"Where are your mom and dad? Weren’t they supposed to be here? How come it ended up being you, a little boy, representing them?" Lu Aimei ruffled Jinsheng’s hair, her face full of curiosity.

"They’re busy. Shitou’s family has been found, and they all have to discuss his engagement to my sister," Jinsheng dropped the bombshell and then grumbled with particular dissatisfaction at Lu Aimei, "Auntie, I’m not a little boy anymore, can you stop ruffling my hair in the future?"

Shitou had found his family and was getting engaged to Lu Yun?

Aside from the children, the adults all looked at each other in disbelief, unable to recover from the shock for quite some time. It was Lu Aimei who first came to her senses and pulled Jinsheng back from the group of children with whom he was happily greeting his cousins.

"Spit it out, what exactly is going on?" she demanded.

"Auntie, you don’t want me to talk about it here, do you? And I can’t quite explain it all in a moment. Why don’t you wait until this evening or ask Dad, Mom, Grandpa, and Grandma tomorrow?" Jinsheng replied, his face troubled as he glanced around the bustling airport hall, considering the instructions from Grandpa and Grandma and his parents that not everything could be spoken of—how annoying. He decided to take matters into his own hands and say nothing.

Indeed, how could a kid of his age explain such a big deal, and besides--

Lu Aimei looked around and realized this indeed wasn’t the place for such a conversation. She then changed her mind, saying, "Then let’s go. We’ll head back now, and you can tell us whatever you know on the way."
