Chapter 227: Chapter 219 Fate

"Someone will come to pick us up later; could you let the others know? Maybe they could also come to this area?" Zhang Min suggested as she handed the phone back to Lu Yun.

"Okay." Lu Yun pondered that this place was conveniently close to her home. Had her father gotten home yet?

Thinking about the phone call she had overheard earlier, she guessed the first person who answered might have been a butler or someone similar, and the person who came on the line after that was probably the master. They could even send a car to pick them up. Reflecting on the dress and demeanor of these two people before her, which she hadn’t paid much attention to earlier, she now took a proper look and realized that this family must be quite wealthy or noble.

As she considered this, she dialed the home number, and it was quickly picked up by none other than Lu Aiguo. Without hesitation, she got straight to the point, "Dad, on my way here, someone told me that one of our elderly relatives looks a lot like Shitou. I’m not sure if they could be his kin? So, it’s best if grandpa, grandma, you, and mom could all come out. Both families can sit down and have a chat."

"How similar are they? Also, Shitou is still at the research institute and didn’t take a holiday today. How would they know about him?" Lu Aiguo was startled by the idea that it might be a plot or someone trying to claim a false connection.

"They saw us last time, so they stopped me today when we ran into each other again. As for how similar, I don’t know yet, but according to them, they could have been cut from the same mold."

Lu Yun quickly finished explaining then added, "Dad, you don’t have to worry about anything going wrong. This should be easy to manage. Let’s just sit down and talk. If it’s a match, we could always verify with a DNA test. If there’s a blood relationship, it’ll become crystal clear with a test."

"Haha, you’re right. What’s true can’t be faked, and what’s fake can’t become true. If they do turn out to be family, that would be a huge joy. Alright, your mom, grandpa, grandma, and I will head over there right away. Where are you guys?"

If Shitou could find his relatives, Lu Aiguo would naturally be happy for him. Cast from the same mold? It’s hard to say indeed. So, without any hesitation, he agreed to the meetup.

"We’re near Wangfujing. Dad, I had arranged with Uncle Xu to pick me up at an agreed time. If he hasn’t left yet, please tell him he doesn’t need to come," Lu Yun remembered to instruct.

"He hasn’t left yet. I got it. Anything else? If not, I’m hanging up. See you in a bit," Lu Aiguo glanced outside and remembered seeing Xu Liang’s car in front, though the man himself was not there, he probably was in the kitchen helping out, as usual.

"Hang up," Lu Yun nodded.

"Fine, let’s leave it at that. We should be able to reach Wangfujing in about fifteen minutes," Lu Aiguo said and hung up the phone.

"My grandparents and my parents will arrive in about fifteen minutes. Let’s walk to a convenient place for parking and wait there," Lu Yun said to Zhang Min and Ding Luoluo with neither arrogance nor servility.

If these people really were Shitou’s family, their status might be extraordinary. Just from their poise alone, it was likely their standing was even higher than her own family’s.

But no matter how rich and noble they were, Lu Yun didn’t feel the need to grovel or curry favor with them.

Zhang Min and Ding Luoluo both nodded, and the three of them started walking slowly away from the bustling shopping streets. Ding Luoluo glanced at Zhang Min, then smiled at Lu Yun, "We haven’t introduced ourselves yet. I also have no idea how Shitou is related to your family. Are you siblings?"

"My name is Lu Yun, from Haicheng, currently studying at B University, eighteen years old. Shitou is twenty-six this year. Actually, we were shopping for engagement rings that day," Lu Yun introduced herself succinctly and then pulled out the engagement ring tied with a red string from under her collar to show them.

Upon hearing this and seeing the simple ring, Zhang Min and Ding Luoluo couldn’t help but take a closer look at Lu Yun, never having guessed that she and Shitou were fiancés.

"You’re quite impressive, managing to get into B University from Haicheng. The admission score is much higher there than for local Capital City students. But it’s good that you made it to Capital City; otherwise, we might not have had a chance to meet," Ding Luoluo commented sincerely, praising Lu Yun. Zhang Min nodded in agreement, unable to hide her excitement as she took Lu Yun’s hand, "Such a good child."

If things went as expected, this girl would be her future granddaughter-in-law.

She scrutinized Lu Yun once more, finding that the more she looked, the more agreeable the girl seemed. She glanced down at the photo, still tightly clutched in her hand of Shitou, and noted how well-matched they seemed, whispering to herself, "Shitou—that’s a nickname, right? Does he have a formal name? Where does he work?"

"The research institute. It’s also near Capital City, but it’s not easy for him to leave his work there. He also studied at a university in Capital City. His real name is Lu Xin," Lu Yun replied with a nod.

Murmuring the name, "Lu Xin, Lu Xin..." Zhang Min’s previously calm emotions stirred again, tinged with deep regret. "He’s been in Capital City for several years, and we never met?"

Lu Yun: "..." Not in the past life, either.

With a mental sigh, Lu Yun softly said, "It’s probably because Shitou doesn’t like to go out much."

The impression she got from the two women before her was quite favorable, and she truly hoped they could be Shitou’s family. Even if not, the fact that Shitou resembled someone from their family was, in itself, a rare connection, wasn’t it?

"My name is Ding Luoluo, and this is my grandma. My grandparents had two children in their lifetime. The eldest is my great-uncle, who got separated from the family due to special circumstances when he was young. Despite a long search, my grandparents never found him; he’s likely to be Shitou’s father. The second son, my father-in-law, has always been unwell, so he didn’t take over the family business. He’s now a professor of traditional Chinese painting at a university. Lastly, my husband, Pei Kun, has taken over the family business and is currently learning from my grandfather. Coincidentally, I also graduated from B University, so you should call me your senior," Ding Luoluo introduced herself and her family at a moderate pace, simplifying as much as possible.

"Our grandfather is seventy this year. The Pei Family business was massive in the past, but before the liberation, they donated all of their assets to support the war effort. Once the country opened up, he re-entered business and rebuilt the Pei Family’s commercial empire. He isn’t retired yet. Grandmother is the same age as him. As my father-in-law wasn’t very healthy from birth, he didn’t inherit the family business and now teaches traditional Chinese painting at a university. Pei Kun, is managing the family business under my grandfather’s guidance. It’s quite a coincidence; I’m also a graduate of B University. I suppose you’ll have to call me your senior."

That’s the well-connected, powerful Pei Family from Capital City?
