Chapter 226: Chapter 218 Copycat

"If you’re not comfortable going to our house, Miss, maybe I should call the old man to come over? We can find a place to sit and wait, and as soon as you see him, you’ll know," said Zhang Min, once she regained her composure, her observational and judgment skills hastily returned.

Seeing Lu Yun’s reaction, Zhang Min was barely able to hold back her tears from falling.

The identity of that young man was definitely questionable. Otherwise, upon hearing that someone resembled him, this young lady’s first reaction would not have been to subconsciously measure her up, but instead to express disbelief and astonishment.

Uncertainty was good; it meant the possibility that he was their own child was very high. Her Shaojie, the eldest son she had longed for more than half of her life, could she be about to meet him?

Zhang Min couldn’t help but look at Lu Yun with tearful, hopeful eyes, fearing that the young lady would be scared off by the invitation to their home, based on the wariness she had shown initially, so Zhang Min quickly changed her approach.

However, she couldn’t anticipate that the young lady’s response this time would completely surprise her.

"Does he really look that much alike? Take another look," Lu Yun hesitated for a moment, pretending to search through her small bag, then handed over a photo of Shitou from when he was in college, taken on campus and sent back home, which she had always treasured.

Upon seeing the photo, tears burst from Zhang Min’s eyes. Her hands trembled uncontrollably and her throat choked up, rendering her unable to speak.

It resembled him so much, even more than from when she briefly saw him that day—this young man in the photo was the spitting image of a young Pei Qingyuan; if not for the completely different clothing and background, she might have mistaken it for one taken out of an old family album...

"Wow, isn’t that Grandpa when he was young? Oh my God, to think someone could look so similar!" Ding Luoluo leaned over to look and couldn’t help but exclaim. She had spent the past several days looking through old photos of her grandparents, and she was already very familiar with each one.

This one was serious-faced, and even though he was just wearing a white shirt standing there, one could not ignore him. Everything from his aura to his looks was identical; it was as if he had come straight out of his grandparents’ album.

She had always heard her grandmother saying the two looked very alike, but she had thought her grandmother was exaggerating, that it would be good enough if they looked halfway similar. However, she never imagined not only had her grandmother not exaggerated, but she had clearly understated it—how could there be someone in this world who could bear such a resemblance?

"Call him, call Grandpa to come over, right now..." Zhang Min grasped the photo without taking her eyes off it while firmly clenching Ding Luoluo’s arm, her voice trembling with urgency.

The sight of Zhang Min’s near-collapse alarmed Lu Yun on the side. With one being pregnant and the other not young in years, Lu Yun was truly afraid that if either of them became unsteady—

Lu Yun swiftly stepped forward to support Zhang Min’s arm, "Don’t worry too much. How about I go to your house instead?"

Lu Yun raised her hand to check the time on her plum blossom wristwatch; only half of the agreed time with Xu Liang had passed.

She pondered for a moment. The matter was of great importance and the other party’s demeanor did not seem deceptive, and even if there was any scheme, they would not fear it. So, it was best to also involve her parents and grandparents.

No one in Yushu Village was probably more familiar with Shitou’s ancestry than her own grandparents and father. Having made up her mind, Lu Yun spoke more decisively, "I think it’s better for me to call my family to go to your house. I really can’t explain Shitou’s background all by myself."

"Okay, okay, that’s best. The child’s name is Shitou? And his..." Zhang Min’s eyes lit up with joy and she nodded repeatedly, but then she seemed to hesitate to speak further.

Ding Luoluo also visibly relaxed.

"Let’s wait until everyone is seated before we discuss this," Lu Yun said upon seeing Zhang Min’s expression. Her heart sank but she dared not show too much on her face. The person before her was advanced in age, unable to withstand sudden shocks; the ups and downs were frightening for someone elderly.

Moreover, nothing had been confirmed yet. What if it was a case of mistaken identity? It wasn’t unheard of for two people to look exactly alike. It would be terrible to get one’s hopes up only to end up startling someone.

"Luoluo, look around to see if there’s a payphone nearby. If not, we’ll borrow one from a department store," Zhang Min instructed Ding Luoluo.

"No need to look for a public phone, I have one. Here, use mine," Lu Yun said, reaching into her bag for a rummage and pulling out a brick-like mobile phone.

Both Zhang Min and Ding Luoluo looked at her in amazement.

"We’ve started a small business at home," Lu Yun said, looking at the ugly "brick" in her hand and smiling embarrassingly. At a time like this, the device could still impress, so she generally wouldn’t show it off unless it was necessary.

"It must be more than a small business, right? I’ve heard that some pay tens of thousands for a single cell phone number. How do you use this thing?" Ding Luoluo joked as she took the phone and started fiddling with it.

"That’s just an exception." It wasn’t their family’s relatives spending a fortune on lucky numbers, so Lu Yun responded casually with a smile, while showing her how to dial with the "brick."

Soon Ding Luoluo had dialed the number, and Lu Yun could clearly hear a slightly deep male baritone answering the phone without even using her spiritual power.

"Hello, who’s calling?" The voice was measured and serious.

"Uncle Ma, it’s Luoluo. Is grandpa at home right now?" Ding Luoluo’s voice suddenly became cheerful. The Uncle Ma she referred to was her grandfather’s secretary, almost always by her grandfather’s side. Since he was home, it meant her grandfather was too.

"Yes, do you need me to get him for the phone?" The other end relaxed the tone upon recognizing the familiar voice but remained serious.

Ding Luoluo looked questioning at Zhang Min, who nodded. She then quickly responded, "Yes, grandma has something urgent to discuss with grandpa."

"Please hold," the person on the other end said swiftly, setting the phone aside.

Ding Luoluo handed the "brick" to Zhang Min and whispered, "Grandma, Uncle Ma has gone to get grandpa to the phone."

Zhang Min nodded, pressing the "brick" to her ear and patiently waiting. Soon, an aged but authoritative voice came through, "Zhang Min?"

"Qingyuan, it’s me." As soon as Zhang Min spoke, tears fell anew. She paused, then continued with a hoarse, choked voice, "There’s news of Shaojie. I’m bringing them back now, we’ll talk then."

"Where are you now? I’ll send someone to pick you up," the other voice exclaimed with excitement.

"Near Wangfujing," said Zhang Min.

"Alright, I’ll inform Shaohua and Pei Kun to come back as well," the person replied before hanging up.
