Chapter 205: Chapter 197: Wild Picnic (Part 2)

"I can’t believe your family is actually quite wealthy. You really keep a low profile. What do your parents do, and why do you have an uncle in the Capital City if you’re not from there?"

Wu Xiuyu came over, curious. She was a class officer and had a bit of an understanding of her classmates’ backgrounds. Lu Yun had enrolled at B University as the top scorer from a certain province’s college entrance exam.

She was always curious about her, thinking that being an exam top scorer was such a prestigious thing, she could even boast about it to her parents and younger brother when she got back home. Unfortunately, although Xiuyu had been classmates with her for an entire academic year, having gone through two semesters, she never really had the chance to get close to her.

Just now, she and several other class officers had seen the items Lu Yun brought in, and while discussing how to distribute them, they were surprised to find that everything had already been cleaned, neatly packed in separate ziplock bags, and placed in cardboard boxes.

The fish and meat not only had been processed and cut into appropriate sizes, but they were also thoughtfully labeled with the type of meat, which was really considerate.

"Just a small business. My family worried about me when I came to study in the Capital City, so they followed me here," Lu Yun said indifferently.

"That’s possible?"

Wu Xiuyu was stunned for a moment, and then examined Lu Yun from head to toe. Lu Yun wasn’t wearing fashionable leggings like everyone else, but instead a simple, fruit-green blouse with black trousers and a pair of white sneakers. The only piece of jewelry she wore was a plum blossom watch on her wrist.

Her look was unassuming, and her appearance was merely neat. However, her temperament was notably good, filled with an air of scholasticism, perhaps a result of reading extensively, "Nurtured in poetry, one shines with an air of literature and learning."

What was more enviable was her skin, as fair and delicate as a baby’s.

From appearances alone, she seemed quite ordinary. No one would guess she came from a wealthy family that could afford a car. Aren’t rich people supposed to be like Zhang Lanfeng, ostentatious and arrogant?

Lu Yun let Wu Xiuyu inspect her freely and even gave her a warm smile. From the moment she felt no jealousy or malice in Wu Xiuyu’s eyes and tone, she thought this person might be worth getting to know, perhaps even becoming close to a female classmate temporarily. Joining her group for the cookout today wouldn’t be bad either.

Embarrassingly enough, after a whole year of university, her knowledge of her classmates was still limited to just recognizing them.

When she first came to study, her family didn’t plan for her to live in the simple collective dormitory. So, after her father donated a generous sum to the university leadership, she smoothly evaded boarding and even got out of military training with a leave of absence note.

Since she didn’t live on campus and left as soon as classes ended, moreover not participating in group activities, it turned out that she hadn’t made a single friend from her classmates. In fact, not only was she unfamiliar with her classmates, but the other students also knew little about her.

"Your parents are really good to you. You are the only child in your family, right?" Wu Xiuyu said with envy. As a girl herself, the difference in treatment was like night and day. She couldn’t even imagine having such treatment at home, where her parents would come with her just for school.

"I also have a younger brother, seven years younger than me," Lu Yun replied naturally.

"Your brother must be adopted, right?" Wu Xiuyu blurted out.

"Of course not, why would you think that? My little brother is my parents’ biological child; I watched him being born." Lu Yun looked at her in surprise.

Wu Xiuyu was a bit sheepish, smiling awkwardly, "You have a younger brother, and yet your parents spoil you so much that they even let you come to Capital City for university and stay with you. It’s simply unbelievable."

"My parents think that I’ll get married as soon as I graduate, so they can’t bear the thought of being apart from me for another four years of college. Besides, they run their own business, and it doesn’t matter to them where it is."

Talking about her family and parents with someone who was still quite a "stranger" was actually a first for Lu Yun, and she found the experience quite fresh and interesting. Perhaps it was because Wu Xiuyu seemed so genuine that Lu Yun felt she could speak freely.

"I’m still so jealous of you. Compared to you, I’m just a poor little thing. Where’s your hometown? I’m from Magic Capital. Do you know what my parents said to me when I went off to school?" Wu Xiuyu started with tears in her eyes, then glared at Lu Yun with an expression like a big wolf eyeing a little rabbit. Her look was so amusing that Lu Yun couldn’t help but want to laugh and actually did, "What did they say?"

"They actually told me straight up that all the money at home would eventually belong to my little brother. The only reason they could afford to send me to university was because the annual tuition was only two hundred yuan, and the school gives a subsidy every month, so they don’t need to spend more money.

Plus, they said since I’m in university, I should be grateful and that after I start working, I must give at least half my salary back to the family every month. The rest I could save as a dowry, whatever I could save would have to do because I definitely won’t be able to take any betrothal gifts with me when I marry. My parents are also hoping that by having a daughter who went to university, I could bring in more dowry money later to leave for my little brother to use when he gets married."

Wu Xiuyu wailed, looking at Lu Yun with finger-counting frustration, her parents both earned salaries, and in fact their family wasn’t really short of money but they made it very clear to her.

Fortunately, her greatest strength since she was a child was her optimism and ability to let things go. Even after her parents said such things to her, she was upset for a while but soon got over the sadness.

To be fair, while her parents favored her younger brother a bit verbally, it wasn’t too obvious in their actions. At least when it came to good things to eat in the house, there was never a time when her brother had them and she didn’t. Her brother might eat a bit more than her, but often their parents themselves would be reluctant to eat.

Also, every year at New Year’s, if her brother had new clothes, she was never left out; just like her mother had said, after all, in the end her parents would have to rely on her brother to take care of them in their old age, so it’s understandable that they showed some favoritism.

Thinking about it that way, she wasn’t upset anymore.

"Now you know why I’m envious, jealous of you, right? Ahh, I really want to bite you! How can you be so lucky?"

Wu Xiuyu pretended to pounce and bite Lu Yun. Lu Yun tensed up involuntarily, then saw Wu Xiuyu was only grabbing her arm and pretending to bite, without her mouth actually touching her arm, and Lu Yun suddenly relaxed, "But I didn’t notice you being jealous?"

"Heh heh heh, if I were really jealous, would I be able to tell you so clearly?" Wu Xiuyu reached out to pinch Lu Yun’s cheek and clicked her tongue twice, "So smooth and tender, what’s your secret for taking care of your skin?"

"I use ’Floral Face’ skincare products." Lu Yun held back from dodging; otherwise Wu Xiuyu wouldn’t have been able to touch her at all.

"’Floral Face’?" Wu Xiuyu’s exclamation drew the attention of other female classmates who couldn’t help but look over.
