Chapter 187: Chapter 179 Reverence

Yushu Village was all a buzz as Lin Weisheng and Zhang Ming returned to the factory; they were quickly surrounded by Xie Jiang, Lu Aibing, and others, "Come on, tell us, how did the business negotiations go this time?"

"How else could it go? With Brother Aiguo leading the charge, could anything go wrong? Of course, it’s a triumphal return, victorious from the outset," Zhang Ming said, nonchalantly.

Ever since that trip to Haicheng, Lu Aiguo had made it clear to them: if you want to have a long and comfortable life following him, you had to read more and learn some culture. Otherwise, in the future, you might still end up carrying heavy loads as a coolie, doing more tiring work than others, and earning less money as well.

Lu Aiguo’s words had become as unquestionable as an "imperial edict" in their hearts, including for Xie Jiang and Lu Aijiao, who had immense trust in him. Therefore, none of them dared to slack off; they would read and learn whenever they got the chance.

So, when Zhang Ming spoke now, idioms came to him effortlessly, which didn’t seem odd to the others listening.

"It’s really nice that you guys get to go out and see the world." Lu Aibing conveyed his envy, regretting yet again that he hadn’t joined the first trip to Haicheng to learn to drive; otherwise, he could have gone to S City this time around, even if it meant putting on a bit of an act.

"What’s the hurry? Aren’t you included in this round of learning to drive? You’ll have plenty of opportunities to go out in the future," Xie Jiang said with a smile.

"Exactly," Lin Weisheng reassured him, patting Lu Aibing on the shoulder. Then he and Zhang Ming took turns recounting their experiences of the past few days. In the end, he turned to Wu Tan and said, "Brother Aiguo wants you to follow our truck to Haicheng the day after tomorrow. I’ll come to your place at four-thirty in the morning to leave together."

"Okay. I’ll be waiting at the front door for you at that time," Wu Tan nodded. Now, the factory had three tricycles, and everyone would usually pair up to travel together.

Every time Lin Weisheng and Zhang Ming needed to leave early in the morning, they had to make sure that one of the tricycles was sent to Lin Weisheng’s house the night before for their use.

When there was a possibility of acquiring another cargo truck, Lu Aiguo had already talked with Wu Tan, suggesting that he gradually hand over the chip business between the township and the county to Xie Changgen and Su Hongqi—Su Hongqi being Aunt Tian’s son.

"Aibing, you’d better notify the three others who will be learning to drive in Haicheng this time. When Zhang Ming and I go to deliver goods next time, it will be your turn to depart," Lin Weisheng instructed Lu Aibing, reminding him to let everyone know.

"Sure, I’ll make sure they get the message," Lu Aibing said with an eager smile on his face.

With all the necessary messages delivered, Lin Weisheng and Zhang Ming yawned and went to the cafeteria for breakfast, then found a dormitory to crash in. They had to wait until everyone went home in the evening to leave together. It was a long journey, and during the day the factory’s tricycles were needed for deliveries; only at night were the three tricycles barely enough for everyone to travel together.

The rest scattered to their respective tasks. It was just that Lin Weisheng and Zhang Ming had returned early, coinciding with everyone else’s arrival at the factory, which was why they were all able to gather so completely.

Wu Tan didn’t go out to deliver goods; he followed Xie Jiang and others to the factory workshop. Nowadays, almost every one of them was a jack-of-all-trades; they could handle any task in the factory, except for bookkeeping.

Operating the machine and working, Xie Jiang casually asked him, "So, your family of four has decided to move to Haicheng?"

"Yeah, once I buy a truck with Aiguo and come back, we’ll head over. Getting my dad away from his questionable friends will bring some peace as well, lest too many good days entice someone to stir up more trouble," Wu Tan said.

Wu Tan spoke again about how his dad had become much calmer, "Aiguo said when the time comes just to have our family live by the warehouse, and he’ll pay my dad a monthly wage of forty-five yuan. Plus, he suggested my wife learn bookkeeping from Xia Yuan. When Xia Yuan is about to give birth, it’ll be inconvenient for her to manage the accounts, so someone will need to help her out."

"That’s true. It’d do Uncle Wu some good to have something proper to do; it might keep him out of trouble." Everyone knew a little about Wu Tan’s family issues, so at this moment, Xie Jiang genuinely felt happy for Wu Tan.

"How could he not reform himself? I’ve warned him that if he ever misbehaves like before, my mom will really divorce him. In the future, we won’t bother with him anymore. After all, if push comes to shove, we can just move away and never return to the village until the day he dies. If you can’t beat them, at least you can avoid them."

A smile appeared on Wu Tan’s face, grateful for Lu Aiguo’s help. If it hadn’t been for him pulling him up, how could he have gotten married so quickly and tamed his dad into a toothless cat, burdened by such a father?

Ever since he followed Lu Aiguo to Haicheng, and started sending his salary back home every month, his mother gradually became from a pitiable figure in the village to one who was envied by everyone.

As he earned more money, his mother stood taller. After his dad hit her again in a drunken rage, she took all the money and ran back to her parents’ house, then sent someone to pass the message to him.

Lu Aiguo immediately took him back home, and without a word, they publically gave his dad a beating together. Then he declared that he wouldn’t care for his dad anymore, which alarmed his uncles. At that point, Lu Aiguo stepped in to speak a few words to his uncles, who one after another stated they would no longer interfere in their family affairs.

Only then did his dad become genuinely afraid and behaved obediently, humbly imploring his mother’s family several times before she agreed to return home—nowadays, his dad could drink and eat meat every day, but he never again dared to act rashly or lay a finger on his mother when drunk.

Seeing his dad get in line, and himself, who because of his family’s poverty and having such a father, always struggling with marriage matters, suddenly became one of the most sought-after sons-in-law in Yushu Village.

Wu Tan knew he was no longer young, and his peers in the village already had children old enough to run errands, yet he was still unmarried. His mother was extremely anxious about it.

So she hurried him to marry so she could hold her grandson. Therefore, his wedding was arranged quickly. He was engaged before the New Year, and married on the sixth day of it.

He also remembered when his bride was taken to Haicheng to buy wedding items, Lu Yun looked at his wife once and took a liking to her, even saying they had the look of a married couple and must have been married in a past life.

Proven right by Lu Yun, after the wedding, he indeed found he got along exceedingly well with his wife.

Lu Aiguo’s decision to let his whole family move to Haicheng, and even let his wife learn bookkeeping from Xia Yuan, is such a huge vote of confidence from him!

Nowadays, his mother does nothing but sing Lu Aiguo’s praises at home.

His dad also holds a respectful fear towards Lu Aiguo, especially after Lu Aiguo said he would provide a separate salary just to cover his dad’s daily needs for drinking and eating meat; since then, he stopped muttering any bad words about Lu Aiguo at home.

Wu Tan vowed silently that no matter what happened in the future, he’d stick with Lu Aiguo for life, ready to serve him forever. Whatever Lu Aiguo asked, he would do without a single frown.
