Chapter 175: Chapter 167 Badge
After the discussion, they began dividing the items.
They first carefully categorized the rare goods that had been obviously selected from the two Zitan Wood Boxes.
Looking at the empty Zitan Wood Boxes and jewelry boxes, they noticed the exquisite carvings. Holding them, the boxes were not inferior to any of the gemstones or jewelry that had been inside.
Xia Yuan, admiring the jewelry box over and over again, couldn’t help but say, "This jewelry box would be perfect as Xiaoyun’s dowry; how about we use the share belonging to Aiguo and me to keep it for Xiaoyun?"
"There’s no need to count that as part of the share. Just give it to Xiaoyun. It’s just an empty jewelry box after all." Shitou glanced at the jewelry box and, seeing another Zitan Wood Box that was also finely carved, promptly handed it over in front of Lu Yun, "Give this to her as well."
"Don’t underestimate these two empty boxes; they are made of Zitan, a precious wood. With such fine craftsmanship, they could be even more valuable than the gemstones."
Lu Yun looked at the jewelry box, with its magpies perched on plum branches pattern carved so lifelike—showing joy that was just under the surface, with good implications, and well-preserved, looking almost as good as new.
The box was slightly smaller than the jewelry box, carved with a Peony and Hibiscus Pattern, symbolizing wealth and prosperity.
Both were no ordinary items.
"When I say it’s yours, it’s yours. Could it be more precious than the spiritual power Cultivation Technique, the small warehouse, and those elixirs?" Shitou said dismissively.
"If it’s given to you, just keep it."
Lu Aiguo stopped Xia Yuan who wanted to speak and gestured for Lu Yun to put away the items.
He and Shitou really didn’t need to quibble so much; as long as the bulk of the inheritance could be clearly divided, the smaller details shouldn’t disrupt the harmony. Hence, he no longer brought up his previous thought of giving the other Zitan Wood Box to Shitou.
There were so many items, only when they took them out one by one did they realize how many treasures were still underneath in the boxes. Despite having spiritual power to rely on, which made the sorting much easier, and comfortable chairs to sit on, it still took them three to four hours to sort everything out, along with the original wooden boxes.
Don’t underestimate the value of those wooden boxes; there were over two hundred of them, apart from the ones made of camphorwood specifically for storing books. The rest were made of valuable woods like Zitan, rosewood, and mahogany; in future times, even an empty box might be auctioned off at an auction house.
During the division of items, Lu Yun suddenly remembered that large families in the past often carved their unique family crests on their belongings, so she searched carefully. Expectedly, she found that most of the boxes, and even many pieces of jewelry, indeed bore special crests.
However, these crests were not uniform; there were as many as five or six different kinds.
Lu Yun pointed out the items with different crests to others. After understanding the purpose of the crests, Lu Aiguo sighed, "It seems that this wealth may not belong to a single family. In times of chaos, people’s lives are as fragile as weeds, let alone this gold and silver treasure."
Xia Yuan also fell silent. The country had only been established for thirty-odd years, and their generation, having heard countless sighs from their parents, naturally developed an aversion and disgust toward war.
Now that they had found the crests, they naturally had to think of ways to erase them. For others, it might be difficult, but for Shitou and Lu Yun, it was an easy task.
In the end, the ancient books and paintings were not divided.
Those items were not easy to preserve. Even keeping them in someone else’s small warehouse was not entirely reassuring. If anything got damaged, wouldn’t it just be heartbreaking?
In the end, everyone agreed that the gold and silver treasures they had gotten were already more than enough, and they shouldn’t get greedy. So, the final decision was to store the ancient books and paintings in Lu Yun’s large warehouse. When the time was right, they would duplicate them for future generations, which seemed more meaningful.
Once everything was distributed, Lu Yun looked at the empty underground chamber and suddenly felt it was a waste to leave it unused, but they didn’t need it for everyday use. For storage, everyone had their own small warehouses which were much safer than this place.
While Lu Yun was still pondering how to utilize the space, Lu Aiguo had already spoken up, "Shitou, if we put a vacuum fryer here, wouldn’t it be better? There’s enough space, and it would save us from always running to the warehouse. That place is quite far, not to mention the time it takes to get there and that it always requires both of us to go."
"If we placed the machinery here, whoever is free could operate it anytime. Then, even if Haicheng’s supply demands increase, we wouldn’t need deliveries from the factory back home after we start it up."
"We need to figure out a way to hide the electrical wiring," Shitou pondered, as exposing the underground chamber just because of a wire would be problematic.
Lu Aiguo and Shitou gestured to each other, and even brought out the machine to fiddle with it.
"We also need to install lights down here," Lu Aiguo added.
"We don’t have to pull wires from above, let’s use a generator," said Lu Yun as he found and brought out a set of quiet diesel generators.
Seeing the quiet diesel generator set, both Shitou and Lu Aiguo’s eyes lit up. As usual, Lu Yun tossed them a stack of instruction manuals and then washed his hands of the matter. The two then huddled together, murmuring as they read the manuals.
While those two were studying the manuals, Xia Yuan and Lu Yun listened for a bit but quickly lost interest. So they simply moved to a corner, where Lu Yun set up a new sofa and coffee table, and they enthusiastically looked over their newly acquired jewelry.
It must be said, exquisite jewelry has always been adored by women of all ages, and it’s impossible to resist being captivated by them.
...
"Sis, you just got off work, right? Is something the matter?"
Xia Yuan, who was doing the accounts at the dining table, heard the doorbell ring and glanced at the clock, noticing it was just shy of 3:30 PM. Wondering who would visit at this time, she packed up her things and went to see, only to find it was Xia Na at the door.
After letting Xia Na into the living room, Xia Yuan served her a glass of fresh orange juice and took out a large plate with three small pieces of mousse cake. It was normal for Xia Na, who worked in shifts, to get off work at this time.
"Xia Yuan, where did you buy that skincare cream?" Xia Na didn’t stand on ceremony, she took the orange juice, drank half of it in one go, then snatched up a piece of cake and bit into it, blissfully closing her eyes.
"What happened, you just ran out after only a few days?" Xia Yuan was startled.
"How could it happen so fast? You just gave me three bottles before the New Year, and I certainly haven’t eaten them all up that quickly," Xia Na said.
She devoured one piece of cake in a few bites and reached for another, "It’s all because of my sister-in-law and my husband’s sister-in-law. When I went to my mother-in-law’s over the New Year, they started acting weirdly sweet to me, constantly complimenting how my skin had improved."
