She really disliked this kitchen; it was like a whole different world compared to the living room and the dining room. The only redeeming feature was the sink, which had a water pipe running down from the yard above it. Once you turned it, water would flow out. In the future, getting water would be extremely convenient.

Despite Lu Yun’s dislike and dissatisfaction, Xia Yuan was extremely pleased. She had Lu Yun fetch the coal stove from the storage area and place it beside the stove, laughing as she said, "Now cooking is going to be so much easier. This is what I call a kitchen; the place we rented before was nothing but a dog kennel."

"Indeed, not bad at all," said Lu Aiguo as he looked around and nodded in satisfaction, then proceeded to help Xia Yuan get the coal stove burning.

Next to the kitchen, there was a fairly large room, probably a storage room. Lu Yun quickly grabbed a big table, placed an air fryer on it, and measured out the potato chips Xia Yuan wanted to fry that morning.

Finally, everyone sat around the dining table and finished breakfast. Then, at Lu Aiguo’s and Shitou’s request, Lu Yun filled their tricycle’s cargo hold. After that, she grabbed her backpack and walked with Xia Yuan to school.

At home, Lu Aiguo and Shitou fiddled around for a while, hooking up the solar panel’s power to the storage room before leaving the house.

Lunchtime came, and it was Xia Yuan who came to pick up Lu Yun from school. Seeing not a single elementary school student was being picked up, all walking home in line, Lu Yun felt it was such a major difference compared to future generations. When she saw Xia Yuan, she told her teacher and then ran over to her, embarrassed as she said, "Mom, you don’t need to pick me up after this. I can make it back by myself."

"Sure, as long as you remember the way, I won’t come to pick you up anymore," Xia Yuan said with a smile as she took a look around and then went to greet the teacher. Then, mother and daughter walked home together.

"I’m so smart; how could I possibly not remember the way?" Lu Yun boasted on the way home, causing Xia Yuan to laugh, "Exactly, my daughter is the smartest."

The mother and daughter cheerfully made their way home. Lu Aiguo and Shitou hadn’t arrived yet, so they weren’t in a hurry to eat but went ahead to arrange the furniture.

They first ran to the storage room next to the kitchen—not a small one and without windows—where Lu Yun had put the air fryer in the morning. Lu Yun casually packed up the air fryer and the table, and then she took out two vacuum fryers.

Compared to the air fryer, the vacuum fryer was the real deal for making potato chips and dried vegetables. It was only because there hadn’t been enough room before that she hadn’t taken it out. Now that Xia Yuan learned how to use it, they found that the vacuum fryer was indeed many times more efficient than the air fryer.

While they were trying out the vacuum fryer, Lu Aiguo and Shitou finally came back one after another. Lu Yun and Xia Yuan showed off the new machine to them, and then they set the table for lunch.

After lunch, everyone moved to the right side of the living room. On closer inspection, the first room on the right of the living room turned out to be a suite with separate bathrooms and two rooms inside and out. Next to the suite were two small rooms close to each other, and further down was a separate bathroom.

Since the suite and the two small rooms were not intended to be occupied, Lu Yun did not put furniture in them. After everyone had a look, they casually locked them all. As for the bathroom, although there was a water pipe and Lu Yun put in a solar water heater, it would still be a hassle to really use it. But anyway, Lu Yun tossed the instruction manual to Shitou and Lu Aiguo and felt none of it was her concern.

Compared to the first floor, the layout of the second floor was much simpler, with only three suites, two single rooms—one large and one small—and an independent bathroom.

The suites on the second floor also came with their own separate bathrooms.

However, the large single room was oddly without windows, and even the door was double-layered. So everyone speculated whether it had originally been used for storing valuables?

Originally, Lu Yun thought the room allocation was perfect with three suites: her parents in one, and she and Shitou each in their own. However, Xia Yuan wasn’t comfortable with her sleeping alone, so Lu Yun had no choice but to share a suite with Shitou in the end.

Fortunately, the suite had two rooms, so she took the inner room while Shitou took the outer one, at least granting her some private space of her own.

Even though there was enough space for everyone to have their private rooms, after a discussion, it was felt better not to change the habit of gathering together at night to read, discuss things, chat, and talk. So, the windowless large room on the second floor naturally became their shared book room.

In addition to a desk for each person, two large bookshelves were added to the book room, filled with books each person had requested.

In the middle of the room was still a round table with four chairs. Because the room was quite secure, for convenience, they decided not to pack up those books every day anymore.

But because of these books, the book room naturally became an important place in the house, and the most "heavily guarded" area. No one would ever forget to lock both doors tightly whenever they came in or out.

Because everyone liked the old elm furniture that Lu Yun had brought out in the morning, even the upstairs rooms were furnished with matching old elm furniture. Of course, the rooms that weren’t occupied did not need to have furniture taken out for them; they remained locked as before.
