Chapter 131: Chapter 127 Moving House
Early the next morning, when the four of them were leaving the house, they happened to run into landlord Sister Tao also going out to buy groceries. Xia Yuan hurriedly called out to her, "Sister Tao, we’ll be able to move all our belongings out by tomorrow during the day, so I wanted to let you know today."
"You’re moving out already? Didn’t you say it would be at the end of the month? Tomorrow’s only the 20th."
Thinking about having to refund the remaining ten-plus days of rent, a reluctant expression appeared on Sister Tao’s face. However, since Xia Yuan had mentioned it a few days earlier, and Xia Na had discussed it with them when she rented the house, Sister Tao couldn’t really say anything in response.
"You don’t need to worry about calculating the remaining rent for this month for us. Once we’ve moved out tomorrow, we’ll bring the keys over to you."
Xia Yuan saw what the other party was thinking and didn’t want to cause any unpleasantness over such a small amount of money, which might affect the good mood of moving house, so she generously spoke up.
"Alright, then I’ll be waiting at home for you all to bring the keys over tomorrow during the day."
Hearing that Xia Yuan didn’t want the remaining ten-plus days’ worth of rent for the month, landlord Sister Tao immediately became cheerful and showed no sign of making things difficult for them anymore. She smiled and asked curiously, "Where are you moving to?"
"It’s too far from the school here, and it’s inconvenient to drop off and pick up the children every day. So, we found a place right next to the school," Xia Na replied with a smile.
"Right next to the school, eh? How much is the rent there per month? I bet it’s not as spacious as my place?"
Upon hearing that they were renting a house near the school, landlord Sister Tao instantly felt a little more at ease and wasn’t surprised anymore. Her place was far from the school, and it was indeed troublesome to have to spend time shuttling the children back and forth. After all, nowadays children go to school on their own, who still indulges their kids by dropping off and picking up like that?
"It’s alright. It’s more or less the same..." Xia Yuan recalled the houses that Lu Aiguo and Shitou had inquired about a while back, and the rent for both places was not much different.
"Mom, hurry up; it’s getting late!" Lu Yun shouted after sitting down in the tricycle box with Shitou, seeing that Xia Yuan was still chatting endlessly with the landlord.
"We still need to go sort things out at the other house," Xia Yuan said apologetically, smiling at the landlord.
"Well, you better hurry on, then. Come over and visit whenever you have time," landlord Sister Tao said, her face beaming with a mere formality.
"Sure."
Xia Yuan also gave a properly polite smile, nodded, and turned to leave.
Sure, as if.
"Mom, why did you dawdle so long? We’re going to be late..."
Lu Yun’s impatient voice carried on the wind to Sister Tao’s ears. Looking again, the tricycle carrying several of them was already pedaling further and further away. Thinking that she would be short more than ten yuan in rent money the following month, landlord Sister Tao sighed.
What was on landlord Sister Tao’s mind, Lu Aiguo, Xia Yuan, Lu Yun, and Shitou naturally didn’t care.
Upon reaching their new home, the group first visited the backyard. Opening the small door, they could see that, as backyards go, it was actually a very small piece of land enclosed by a wall. It was clear that the color and style of this wall were notably different from the stretch of wall that extended from the main gate.
Lu Yun immediately took out the solar panels, and with the help of Lu Aiguo and Shitou, set them up before locking the small door of the backyard. The four of them then entered the small building and could see a large living room with floor-to-ceiling windows as soon as they walked in. Running out of time, Lu Yun didn’t go upstairs. Without a careful look, she hurriedly placed a set of old elm wood solid furniture including a sofa chair, matching coffee table, desk, and cabinets in the living room.
The old elm wood furniture was sturdy, not prone to deformation, and looked hefty. The grain was clear, and the color was simple. Lu Yun always appreciated the rustic charm that emanated from these pieces.
Furthermore, the old elm was suitable for carving, so the furniture had an especially pleasing appearance.
As expected, as soon as she took the furniture out, it caught everyone’s eye.
After arranging the living room furniture, she moved based on her memory towards the left side of the living room and indeed found the direction of the dining room and kitchen. The dining room was easy to manage—a round old elm table and six carved back chairs. Seeing there was still space, she also placed a semi-open grid shelf against the wall.
Continuing farther back was the kitchen. On looking at the kitchen, Lu Yun almost felt like sighing.
The kitchen in this house wasn’t very big, but it had a separate door that led to the yard. Inside the kitchen were two large stoves, atop which sat a big pot that Shitou had specially bought. In the corner was a neat pile of wood, tree branches, and coal, and she wondered where Shitou had gathered all that wood and branches from. Besides these, there was a large cupboard in the kitchen. By the window, there was a sink and next to it, a long table.
