Chapter 129: Chapter 125 House (Part 2)
"Maybe we should just buy it,"
Seeing how anxious Lu Yun was, Shitou instinctively opened his mouth.
What was it but an extra ten thousand yuan or so? With their current potato chip business, they would make up the difference in about two months, not to mention the extra money they made from selling ginseng that exceeded their expectations. Besides, what was the point of working themselves to death to earn money? Wasn’t it to have it when family members wanted to spend, to be happy?
Shitou had an epiphany all at once.
"Okay, buy it,"
Lu Aiguo and Xia Yuan exchanged a glance, gritted their teeth, and nodded. Since their daughter liked it so much, they would buy it! In fact, they had wavered when she anxiously shook their arms earlier. Ten thousand more yuan, if it had been a month ago, they might have found it unacceptable, but now, in their eyes, it was merely working hard for an extra month or two.
Compared to the happiness of their daughter, that extra effort truly meant nothing.
"That’s great, let’s go take care of the paperwork now?" Lu Yun patted her floral cloth backpack, looked up at her dad, mom, and Shitou with a smile. Just now, she had already transferred the money, even adding an extra two hundred yuan.
"No problem, right?" Lu Aiguo took Lu Yun’s backpack with understanding, opened it to reveal the cash inside to the intermediary, "Twenty thousand here should be enough, want to count it first?"
"No need, no need, no need to count it now. I’ll take you to the homeowner first, we can count the money in front of him, and then go directly to the housing authority," the intermediary couldn’t hide his elation at being able to sell the house so smoothly, his joy was irrepressible, he quickly nodded in agreement.
He had seen the three adults hesitate at first, assuming it was another no-go, but unexpectedly, with the young girl’s coaxing, they all changed their minds and agreed.
This family really spoiled their daughter, didn’t they? Even trusting her with such a large amount of cash in a little backpack and letting her carry it around? Hopefully, they wouldn’t change their minds again in a few minutes?
The intermediary, fearing another turnaround, was even more anxious than Lu Aiguo and his family, "I’ll take you there right now."
Eventually, the four were led to meet the homeowner, a dry-looking, stern-faced old man. They brought the full payment, so they agreed to pay half upfront and then proceed with the transfer of ownership. The owner had connections at the housing authority, so the paperwork was processed very smoothly.
When deciding whose name the property would be transferred to, after some discussion, they wrote down the names of Xia Yuan and Lu Yun.
Originally, according to their earlier agreement, the house they bought would belong to Lu Aiguo and Xia Yuan, while the house they built would be considered Shitou’s. But in the end, two plots of homestead land were approved, and Lu Aiguo and Xia Yuan got half.
They all knew how valuable this house was now. Probably, it would be next to impossible to buy a house like this one in the same area in the future.
So, in the end, Lu Aiguo and Xia Yuan unanimously decided that Shitou also deserved half of this house.
The part with Lu Yun’s name on it was Shitou’s half. Since Shitou always insisted that anything that was his should be put in Lu Yun’s name first, the names on the property certificate ended up being Xia Yuan and Lu Yun side by side.
The house was theirs, and whether the name on the title was Xia Yuan’s or anyone else’s, it didn’t matter—Lu Yun was as happy as a bird.
Aside from the excitement of knowing the property would surely skyrocket in value, making it a great bargain for them, the main reason for her joy was that the place only needed minor renovations before they could move in.
It would take several months to build a house in Jingtou Village. Here, however, it was different. If they worked quickly, they could move within ten days to half a month.
Thinking of moving, Lu Yun felt a special kind of happiness, especially since they were moving to their own property. They would no longer have to deal with the landlady, Sister Tao. Recalling how Sister Tao had spread rumors that her family was so poor they had to eat potatoes for meals, causing the neighbors to look at her family with either pity or disdain, Lu Yun couldn’t help grinding her teeth in irritation.
She admitted that she had intentionally misled Sister Tao, but the landlady’s assumptions were rather exaggerated, weren’t they? How much of a "genius" must one be to come up with such stories about her family, and then to blabber them recklessly based on mere speculations? It was just too, too outrageous and infuriating.
Alright, she admitted that in her previous life, she had lived a very simple existence for the last decade or so, most of her mind focused on her Alchemy. Apart from interacting with a limited number of people, she had almost begun living a life of seclusion. As a result, after a long period of peace, she had become less sensitive to these things...
Lu Yun’s happiness quickly spread to the others. Lu Aiguo and Shitou busied themselves with various tasks, starting with an additional tricycle that was parked at the new house.
Every day, the three of them would leave the house together. Lu Yun was dropped off at the school, and Shitou would get off to head to the new house, specifically to work on the renovations and to pick up and drop off Lu Yun at midday for school.
In the evening, Shitou would make his way to the school gate and wait with Lu Yun for Lu Aiguo to cycle over and take them back home.
As for Lu Aiguo, he only needed to make trips to the school in the mornings and evenings. During the day, he was mainly responsible for delivering potato chips and overseeing the construction in Jingtou Village. When lunchtime came around, he simply went home to eat.
Since they now had the house near the school, there was no longer a rush to finish the house in Jingtou Village, and there was no need for Lu Aiguo to go to the school at midday, so his schedule was completely manageable.
Shitou also felt relaxed. In the new house, except for the electrical wiring that required an electrician to carefully inspect and replace as necessary, he could handle everything else on his own.
Even while assisting the electrician, he managed to learn by observation, and after specifically studying several books on electricity, he surprisingly came to understand a good bit about what the electrician knew.
After the electricians were done, Shitou started riding the tricycle out to buy various necessary materials. He plastered the house, fixed the doors and windows, mixed cement and sand to lay bricks, used wooden planks for partitions, made doors, and even some simple furniture... before finally doing a thorough clean-up.
Without saying a word, he completed all of these tasks on his own and then suddenly, one evening at dinner, announced that the new house was ready to move into once the furniture was in place.
The new house’s furniture, as Lu Yun had declared from the beginning, would be directly taken from her "warehouse." In her space, there truly was an abundance of furniture—classical, modern, luxurious, and minimalist designs in all sorts of styles.
Upon hearing Shitou’s news, everyone was stunned—they hadn’t expected the progress to be so quick, especially since Xia Yuan had just asked Shitou about it a couple of days earlier and had suggested they all come together for the major cleanup.
Because she always felt she contributed the least, being responsible only for the household duties just as before, she was eager to take on the task of the big clean-up. But if she insisted on doing it alone, the others would certainly not agree.
In the end, Shitou still went ahead and completed the work without a peep.
