Chapter 119: Chapter 117 Concerns
"Dad, Mom, Shitou, have you ever thought about it? When it comes to land approval for building houses, it’s not limited to just one plot of land, right?" Lu Yun looked at her father’s "pitiful" expression, and a sense of compassion surged in her heart, so she quickly changed the subject to something more positive.
"You’re right, that old man was correct; the suburbs here aren’t really that far from the downtown area. If we can get land approval, of course, the more, the better. Maybe we can consider different locations, getting some land approved in a nearby village first, then look to more distant villages to do the same. The more remote the village, the easier it might be to get the land approved."
Shitou gave Lu Yun a thoughtful glance. The land here isn’t worth much now, but that might not be the case in the future, and if they wanted to expand their business in the future, they wouldn’t be able to do it without a sufficiently large space.
Lu Yun gave him a knowing look as if to say, "Smart thinking," "You’re right. I think you also need two bicycles; with bikes, you can travel farther distances."
"Indeed. It’s about time to figure out how to exchange for two bicycle tickets. It will be more convenient to pick up and drop off Xiaoyun when she goes to and from school."
Lu Aiguo agreed, and neither Xia Yuan nor Shitou objected. Even though almost no one specially picks up and drops off their children from school these days, Lu Yun was an exception; she was still too young, and their home was too far from the school, with no acquainted children nearby she could walk with. The idea of her walking that long distance alone was too worrisome to consider.
"I have another suggestion. We should put in writing all that we’ve agreed on today and keep a formal record. As for the houses we are going to buy and build, there’s no need to discuss who they belong to; they’ll be considered private property. Whoever wants them can have them, but in the future, they’ll have to pay it off with their own dividends."
Lu Yun was mentally prepared for her parents and Shitou to pick her up and drop her off from school and she had no intention of refusing.
"Right, we should establish two sets of account books, one for business transactions and another for daily expenses. It’s best if these two accounts don’t get mixed together." Lu Aiguo and Shitou both nodded in agreement. Since they were planning to do big business, they needed to set rules from the start and then follow them to the letter.
Lu Aiguo looked at Xia Yuan, "Wife, I think you’re the most suitable one to handle the accounts."
Shitou nodded in agreement, "Right, Sister-in-law is the most suitable for this job."
"But, I don’t know how to keep accounts?" Xia Yuan was troubled.
That’s simple; you can learn. Lu Yun rummaged through her things and found a set of accounting study materials for her mother, along with several books on business management for her father and Shitou.
Although many of those books bore dates, there’s a saying that goes, "You don’t itch when you have too many lice."
As expected, Lu Aiguo and Xia Yuan flipped through the books and then exchanged a worried glance. They both looked at Lu Yun, "We can’t leave these out in the open. When we have some free time, we’ll ask you for them to read."
Lu Yun nodded with a smile.
So, everyone acted as if nothing had happened and dropped the subject.
They then proceeded to put in writing the share each person was entitled to according to the earlier discussion, and everyone signed their full names — even Lu Yun wasn’t an exception.
After everything was sorted and the documents stored in Lu Yun’s large warehouse, Lu Aiguo spoke up, "It’s getting late; everyone should go to sleep. We can discuss the remaining matters tomorrow..."
Before he could finish, suddenly from outside, there came a pounding, a rapid knocking at the door. Everyone exchanged puzzled looks and checked the time— it was already half-past ten. Who could it be visiting at this late hour, and knocking so fiercely?
Just to be safe, Lu Aiguo and Shitou picked up a wooden stick and approached the door cautiously, ready to defend themselves, and tentatively asked, "Who is it?"
"The landlord."
Recognizing the voice as that of their landlord, Madam Tao, they quickly put the stick behind the door and opened the courtyard gate with smiling faces, "Madam Tao, what brings you here so late?"
"So you know it’s late, huh? Look at the time, and you still have the lights on; do you have any idea how expensive electricity is? Didn’t I tell you to turn off the lights early in the evening? I didn’t say anything yesterday because you had just moved in, but you’re doing the same thing today. If you continue like this tomorrow, I’ll have to raise next month’s rent. Electricity costs ten cents per kilowatt-hour; you can do the math and figure out how much extra I’ll have to pay for your electricity usage this month?"
