Chapter 187 - 175: The Solution
Chapter 187: Chapter 175: The Solution
"Talk to me, what exactly happened? I’ve already got the gist of it from Shufan," said Bai Yixian, leaning against the sofa while letting the waiter pour the drink. In such a place, Xiang Dingtian wasn’t likely to do anything foolish. If anything happened to him, this Dihui would have no reason to exist."
"The ones who made the move were instigated. The people we’ve traced so far are from Luo Qianqian’s school, but we’ll need those who were injured to be out of the hospital to know more," Lin Jiayou pondered for a moment before highlighting the key points.
"No one can be touched?" Bai Yixian swirled the wine glass in his hand, "Then bring them to the school."
"Qianqian seems to know something, but she refuses to talk," Lin Jiayou thought for a while before mentioning this situation.
Bai Yixian was taken aback, then he came to a realization, "She has her own thoughts; there’s no need to force her." He shook his head, confident that he would find out what was happening.
"There’s one with a broken arm and leg; with a cast and crutches, he can go," Lei Laohu said with a bitter face after finishing his phone call. No one would have expected that a little brother’s errand to make pocket money would get them entangled with another gang and Bai Yixian, the big Buddha."
"Monday, I’ll be waiting at the school gate," Bai Yixian looked up at Lei Laohu, who gave a sheepish smile and nodded.
Seeing that the matter was progressing, Xiang Dingtian said, "Come, let’s drink to our eventual victory."
"This is post-mortem," Bai Yixian sipped his drink, "Not even asking your opponent’s name, aren’t you afraid someone is arranging for you to confront me?" Bai Yixian sneered as he watched Lin Jiayou pick up the glass and frowned, "Your wound hasn’t healed, don’t drink alcohol. Aren’t you still underage, too?"
"Someone, bring juice," Lei Laohu was startled and promptly gave the order through the intercom.
Lin Jiayou furrowed his brows; it wasn’t that he hadn’t drunk before, but thinking that Bai Yixian had said this, and considering that he had younger siblings at home worrying about him, he put down his glass.
"Never mind, I should head back, my little brother and sister are probably waiting for me to come home for dinner," Lin Jiayou looked around and saw that there was nothing else for him to do, so he stood up to take his leave.
Bai Yixian naturally knew who he was referring to in his mention of a little brother and sister. Since An Zilan became close with Lin Xu, Lin Xu’s ancestors for eighteen generations and even the people he had been involved with were thoroughly investigated; otherwise, Bai Yixian wouldn’t have allowed such a person to appear around Luo Shufan and Luo Qianqian. If there was an accident, he wouldn’t know how to explain it to that person.
"Come with me. I have something to deliver to them." Downing the rest of his drink, he stood up to say goodbye.
"Haha, welcome to come again next time. Make sure to drink until you can’t handle more," Xiang Dingtian laughed loudly as he escorted the two to the elevator, then turned and kicked at Lei Laohu, "Go and take your punishment yourself!"
"Yes," said Lei Laohu with a wry smile.
"To the airport." After hailing a taxi, Bai Yixian sat in the back, leaving the door open for Lin Jiayou to sit beside him, his expression kind, "You can drive, right? My car is parked at the airport with all the stuff inside." Just after getting off the plane, Bai Yixian saw the messages as soon as he turned on his phone. Feeling a bad premonition, he left everything in the car before calling Luo Qianqian. However, Luo Qianqian was sound asleep, scaring him to the point where he almost called that person, but fortunately, there was Luo Shufan. After hearing what Luo Shufan had to say, he didn’t feel up to driving and took a taxi there instead.
"I can," Lin Jiayou couldn’t believe that the legendary Elder Bai could be so approachable, but he still sat very tensely, like a primary school student with proper posture, hands on his knees, back straight, eyes looking forward, occupying only a small part of the seat.
Bai Yixian cracked a slight smile, not bothering to offer reassurance or anything else. Having spent so many years in that line of work, respect came naturally to him, but it was only after leaving and finding sanctuary that he realized life could be so rich and diverse. His brother had grown less cold than before and had even been admitted to high school, no longer regularly skipping classes. The thought of the Luo siblings could always make his lips curve into a smile.
"How are they doing?" Bai Yixian glanced at his watch and massaged his temples. He was very tired but still couldn’t sleep.
Who? Lin Jiayou looked puzzled but quickly caught on. Who else could Bai Yixian be asking about if not the Luo siblings? "Because of this incident, Auntie forced them to stay home and they’ve taken a few days off from school. They won’t be back until Monday." Lin Jiayou shook his head: "If I hadn’t taken the house keys with me today, they would likely have sneaked out again. They mentioned yesterday that they wanted to see how you were doing."
"I’ve caused them worry," Bai Yixian sighed, but then inquired with slight surprise, "The house keys? You’re living with them?"
"Yes, after getting discharged these past few days, Auntie took me home. She said it wasn’t good for me to be at home alone, and that there were people here who could take care of me. I tried to refuse, but it was no use." Lin Jiayou scratched his head sheepishly: "If I were at home, my dad would have to take time off work to care for me. After thinking it over, I decided it was better to stay over there."
"That’s good then. They’ll be entrusted to you for about half a year. I’ll be leaving in a few days," Bai Yixian said calmly after his surprise, then shifted topics, "You must have almost finished discussing the wedding preparations, right?"
"The date has been set. Taking care of them won’t be a problem, they’re like my brother and sister after all, but you should tell them first. These past couple of days, their anxiety has been hard to miss." Lin Jiayou nodded and didn’t ask why. Bai Yixian hummed an acknowledgment and then closed his eyes to rest.
Upon reaching the airport, Bai Yixian, with Lin Jiayou, collected the car. Bai Yixian fell asleep in the back seat alongside the gifts he had brought back. Bai Yixian’s sleeping gave Lin Jiayou a sigh of relief, but he still focused intently on driving. Since he was still underage, being caught would spell trouble, so he couldn’t afford any mistakes that might arouse suspicion. For this, he had to thank the senior who had once taken him under his wing. If it weren’t for the senior teaching him how to drive, he wouldn’t have had such an opportunity, even though he rarely drove himself. He did, however, love the racing games in video games, so after a brief adjustment period, he was on the road.
Luo Qianqian was still asleep when she heard the door open. She blearily opened her eyes to see two figures at the door, then her hazy vision gradually sharpened, and with a cry of surprise, she exclaimed, "Bai Yixian, you’re back!"
"Mhmm, I’ve worried you," Bai Yixian said, moved as he watched Luo Qianqian throw off her blanket and run towards him with bare feet. He gently ruffled her hair and handed her the bag he was holding, "I brought you a gift."
Luo Qianqian opened the bag with a puzzled look, revealing a silk cheongsam. Her lips twitched, thinking it was a long way from summer, wasn’t it?
Seeing Lin Jiayou heading downstairs, Luo Qianqian asked, "What are you doing?"
"There’s more stuff I haven’t brought up yet. Shufan, come down with me to get it." Bai Yixian chuckled softly, "It’s something nice."
After Luo Qianqian placed the cheongsam inside the house and washed her face, by the time she came back out, the three of them were already hauling items upstairs—three suitcases and several bags.
"Is everything you buy nowadays by the suitcase?" Luo Qianqian commented, tongue-in-cheek, at Bai Yixian’s extravagant shopping habits.
"These were given by someone else. This one’s for Qianqian, this one for Shufan, and another one for your cousin. Take a look and see if there’s anything you like. Keep one each, and we’ll ship the rest by freight to the Capital City," Bai Yixian said with a gleam of merriment in his eyes, these being incidental prizes from his trip, though he figured they were probably things any girl would like?
Luo Qianqian opened one box—a jade bracelet; another—a jade pendant; and another—a jade carving... Luo Qianqian felt there was no need to look further.
"You went abroad?"
